Originally by: Micheal Dietrich I was rather disappointed by AVP myself being a huge fan of aliens and predators. But I kinda saw it coming due to alien 3 and resurrection.
My biggest issue with AVP was how fast the first 2 predators died and only one of them thought to acid proof his weapons. That and cobwebs in a temple that's been buried under the ice in the antarctic for thousands of years.
It'd be nice to see a better sequel but I'm not giving up my hopes. Will still go watch it in theatres though.
And Constatine was awesome.
Well also with the predators there were horrible inaccuracies. The first two predators were Unblooded, meaning they werent skilled at the hunt.
But the helmets were too easy punched through my the Xenomorphs inner jaws. Their helmets should have withstood a few punches from the inner jaws before *****ing and giving way, but the makers of the film decided to let them be so flimsy that one bite pierced through. Ironic how a bullet can ping off the Hunters helmet but a Xenomorph inner jaw attack punches right through.
and the older Predator which acid proofed his weapons was blooded and was there to Oversee the Blooding hunt, so that the unblooded ones wouldnt cheat and would hunt with Honor.
:P and yes, I know a lil too much about Predators and Aliens

I definitly don't know as much of the lore as you but I could swear in the movie they explained the history as that only the chosen predators who have proved themselves in the hunt are allowed to undergo this trial of hunting the ultimate prey. Even the last predator still marked his helmet and himself after he made that kill.
To me it was just lame that the alien managed to get 2 kills in right off the bat. I can see the first kill because the predators were distracted but not the second. Predators are more skillful than that.
oh and I don't know if anyone remembers this but this actually isn't the first time Aliens and predators met. If you watch predator 2 when Danny Glubber is on the predator ship he goes and looks at the trophies, you actually can see a alien skull there.
My knowledge is a little hazy but through backstory i think aliens are actually something the predators hunt all the time or maybe i just misread what u wrote.
the Predator (Yautja in their own language) and the Xenomorphs history goes back a bit. Predator clanships and normal hunting ships carry stasis pods with Xenomorph eggs, for deployment on a particular planet they want to hunt on.
Deploy the eggs, allow the population to become infested and a hive to appear.
The Blooding ritual, or the challenge for teenage predators to become true hunters IS to fight the Kiande Ameda. Hard Meat. aka Xenomorphs, due to their dangerous nature. If a Unblooded warrior can survive against the Alien, he is worthy enough to be a hunter of the clan.
Though for blooded warriors to go after Aliens is a different matter. Some do it as a pack in a mission to capture a Queen for designed blooding courses, such as was seen in the first movie. Or Single predators will go basically on a suicide run for the highest challenge ever, entering the hive, fighting its way through and then killing the Queen. Her skull would hold the highest honor due to the difficulty in killing her.

It was just a montage of stuff from the other films + a dash of Indiana Jones. It wasn't even done especially well.
The script was substandard. Any visceral impact any of it should have had is totally gone thanks to it following five other films.
I dozed through most of it.
I can't even begin to imagine how the second could be anything other than terrible.
A predator with two pew-pews? How desperate are they to do anything that hasn't been covered in the five original films (Aliens Resurrection doesn't count) or the comic books?
Ugh. Which imbecile green lit this?
edit Oh, yeah. Hunting the Aliens is something the predators do as a sporting event. Like the FA Cup or Superbowl. In the first comic book series they bring antique gear to do it with so they're not neccesarily using their best stuff. Just wouldn't be cricket.
That said, people who argue about the logic of sci-fi die alone with their 23 cats.
What if our cats are already dead and stuffed :)

Plus it looks like the whole wooded area and the city will be pretty faithful to the books and comics. Been an Alien and Predator nut since I was about 7, so I gotta go see this
8Edit* also looks like the Yautja invented some new weapons... nice to see their technology evolving... it been almost 20 years, about time
Well not ALL predators belong to the same clan. There are many many many clans that roam throughout the universe, and not all of them encounter the same type of Xenomorphs due to the wide difference in hosts.
But each Clanship holds a HUGE clan, and I wouldnt put it past them to develop their own unique clan weapons, such as the whip. Sure there are the basics that each clan started out with. The Wristblades, The Plasma Caster, Smart Disc, Gauntlet Caster (Think plasmacaster, but smaller. and on the gauntlet).
And each Hunter, if they have gone on enough hunts and survived, would also customize their weaponry to suit themselves? I think so.
PS: PlasmaCaster is the true name of the Shoulder Cannon. And anyone who thinks its horrible that Wolf has two mounted on each shoulder should be glad the director didnt take the AVPB (/Anti Vehicle Plasma Bolt) Cannon from the comics. The HUGE Anti-Vehicle/Ship weapon. If youve played Planetside, think of the Lancer. Lemme go find a picture later
EDIT. I couldnt find a picture of it but I found a description.
" This weapon would never be used for a hunt. Designed primarily for defending Predator landing craft, this weapon launches a "packet" of compressed plasma to a distance of three miles! Fired in the same way as a bazooka or rocket propelled grenade (RPG), it is considered barely "Yautja portable". This weapon has the approximate power of a shipboard laser cannon. Only good for sixty shots before needing an overhaul. Simply put, this is a dirty radiation weapon. The relatively unfocused energy is deadly for even mildly prolonged use to any race with human like tolerances to radiation. The Yautja have a strong immunity to high radiation levels, so they use this weapon with impunity as needed. The weight is 175 pounds and its range is 3 miles."

Thanks
Amazon.com
Search Aliens vs Predator... I'm sure they got em all. Hopefully you'll be a new fan
*To guy above me* And I suppose that Yautja with 2 Plasmacasters is just doing an aahnold impression
Nah. Not Arnold. I think Wolf prefers the sequel to the first. "You are one...ugly..mother..." Pred: "Mother..:F*bleep*er"
But seriously, this is the best christmas gift Fox has ever given me. Pure, unadulterated violence from my two favorite genres
Originally by: QwaarJet It's rated 18, so we're looking at some serious gore here. That's a good thing. But that cast is worse than the first film. The first at least had people i'd heard of, but I don't know a single actor in the cast list. That's a bad thing.
Watching the same people over and over gets boring. New talent is a good refresh. and if you watch 24, youll recognize the girl :)

Michelle Desler is in it, damnit. Jack Bauer will come save her ass, im sure.
Ohh man. Jack beating down an Alien then having a gunfight with Wolf (the main predator in the movie) and at the end? He foils the aliens plot to take down the american government. Next, on 24...

Its amazing how the facehuggers manage to plant an egg in a human, and the egg transforms itself into a fullgrown alien all within 24 hours.
Paul WS Anderson has to be one of the worst directors outthere together with Uwe Boll. Everything they touch turns into poo.
Eh, That's how fast they really do form. The facehugger stays attached for a few hours. Within about 10 hours the chestburster comes out and starts eating any material nearby wether it is organic or inorganic. Within 24 hours it becomes a full grown male. If there is no queen within the area then the males can actually plant a queen egg.
Unfortunatly in AVP it seemed like the aliens grew up in about 20 minutes time instead of the 24 hours cause it seemed like the crew was inside of the temple for maybe 2 hours.
Actually the drones that burst out cannot construct an Egg, as thats the duty of the queen, as only she can have an eggsack to produce eggs.
Usually only a Royal Egg can release a Royal Chestburster, which will infect a host with the Queen chestburter. That Chestburster has the potential to start a new hive, as it will grow into a full queen.
In hives there are Mini Queens, which are basically like officers. Praetorians. Because of the presence of the Queens, the Praetorians are her Royal Guard, though the Queen is also protected by Warrior class xenomorphs aswell, which are bulkier and more dangerous than the drones, which are faced in the first Alien, Aliens and Aliens Ressurection.
Scout type Xenomorphs, which are encountered in Aliens 3, are spawned from more nimble hosts, and are the source of the Hive finding hosts and food outside the immediate area of the Hive. But in Aliens, you can see the Warriors in the Hive when Ripley goes down to save Newt. The Queen warns them off as Ripley threatens the Eggs with the Torch.
But back to Praetorians. When a Hive grows large enough, a few Praetorians will leave the Hive with a few drones, and will travel a great distance away from their Original Hive to start a new one. Sometimes the Praetorians fight each other for NEW hive locations, but once they settle down into a new location, the drones will dig and resin the walls in prepartion for the Queens egg chamber, and after that the Praetorian will go through the growth cycle to become a full fledged Queen, who then begins to produce eggs. Drones will then expand the hive as others explore outside in the vicinity of the new hive for hosts, drag them into the Hive and have them infected for More drones, or more Warriors.
The new hive will not breed Praetorians as it is small, but once it grows to a nominal size, Praetorian eggs will be birthed in prepartion for another expansion on another part of the planet.

ohh. and I found a good Representation of the Heavy Plasma Caster/Anti Ship Plasma Bolt Cannon that is from the comics.
Heavy Plasma Caster
That is featured in the comics, and this artist did a lovely render of it. NOW imagine that being toted around by Wolf. the Militaries M1A1 Abrams wouldnt stand even a chance

wolf aint a very alien name is it?
Wolf is the nickname given to the main predator in the movie. Think LONE Wolf. He is one predator, survivor of the crashed ship, etc.
Atleast thats what has been confirmed so far, that there will be one Predator and no pred-human team ups.
:P the Yautjas real name would be in clicks and chirps

I believe she becomes blooded in the 3rd part of Deadliest of the Species or the 2nd

It looks like they are gonna make AVP into a gorno movie. I mean... a predator with some kind of uber whip that cuts an alien in half.....
Its like indiana predator.....
I promise you this movie is gonna SUCK.
Not much different from the Frisbee of Doom or the Retractable armor piercing rocket assisted blade staff. Or the rectractable electrical net that can break metal.
Personally I think the whip is kinda cool. And if what these guys are saying with there only being one predator, well, it looks like he's just going to town with everything in sight which is how a predator should be, instead of a couple getting owned by one alien when even a group of marines could take aliens out by the dozens.
Personally I'm gonna wait until it comes out to decide if it sucks or doesn't suck instead of being a doomsayer of old.
The fact that he is going to hell with anything at his disposal and his inability to die quickly is because he is an Experienced hunter. Hes cleaning up the mess his clanship left behind when it crashed, including any humans that get in his way. But his true mission? To kill the Abomination that spawned from his clanmates chest.
The story will be where the Hybrid grew within the predator ship and began attacking the Hunters within it, damaging the ship from the inside and eventually causing it to crash land on earth. And this will happen within a week or two of when the Clan ship took off from the Antarctic, so that it will still be within the Earths atmosphere, probably awaiting the return of OTHER newly Blooded hunters

Itd just be AVP Requiem with Colonial Marines instead of Wolf, the predator. And in the future instead of the modern age like right now
Originally by: Surfin's PlunderBunny
Originally by: Constantinee what i like is the fact that they are bringing back the predator thing. In AVP 1 they showed mercy to humans...like wtf man. Preds are designed to kill whatever breaths and looking at the trailer they are doing just that. i think effects will be off the wall...story may be a bit lame but ill watch it. preds are my favorite but that chick trying to play a sigorny weaver type role....no no.
The Yautja have a tribal system based on a strong sense of honor... if there's no challenge in the hunt then there is no honor in it and a violation of this can get a Yautja banished to some rathole planet and he'll have to restore his honor or he'll die in exile... it's a pretty complex society
and also Wolf is going all out in this town because hes cleaning it up of the xenomorph infestation that escaped from his clanship. His goal is to exterminate the infestation and prevent any future hosts for the infestation to restart. This isnt a hunt for Wolf, this is a sweep and destroy. Therefore the rules of the Hunt do NOT apply, and everything is a valid target.
But what makes me go wtf is that the Plasma Caster works without being tied into the Yautjas armor, where it would derive its power to fire from. But this shows that instead the Plasma Caster derives its energy from itself with its own personal generator, which is new.
