I cannot understand the for the life of me, why CCP decided to use the Invention System over Reverse Engineering?
Could someone please explain this to me, I just don't understand.
Thanks

I suppose reverse engineering requires the tech 2 item to begin with(?), and invention requires a tech one basic item...reverse engineering would be backwards in a game where tech 2 mods are not seeded by NPC corps into the market. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -8<- - - - - - - Stab some scissors into the screen and cut me out.

A reverse engineering approach also puts the focus solely on T2, whereas invention boosts the prices and usefulness of named T1 gear.
The difference between reverse engineering and invention is like asking someone what soft drink they prefer, coke or pepsi. Whichever way you look at it, it's a fizzy drink.
EDIT: And yeah,, NPCs dont seed tech 2. Imagine some ***** situation where someone buys up all of a particular T2 item in the game and reprocesses it. Bang. Nobody can produce that item ever again.
2nd edit: Riiight, a word meaning "strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different; singular:" is censored,,,

There are several reasons I can think of: As long as you are not really inventing or reverse engineering, it doesn't matter what you call it-either of those processes would give you the item production ability forever-like a bpo They couldn't think of enough new skills to use in reverse engineering because it was 'already' in the game-again go with the "new" get more skill time in. Given two ways to do things, a computer programmer/developer will always choose the wrong thing to do-see mining capital ship atm-with the understanding that he can always fix it later. How could you possibly do something that would undermine the income of the early players in the game. Why if something was created that was anything like a real market/science/economic set up it might break the chokehold the earlier players have on high isk revenues. Monopolies are fun! They didn't really want to make science characters useful as they don't usually pvp. Complicated for them is more fun than easy as they love watching the lemmings run around trying to figure out what was really done and how to incorporate it into their characters in the least painful way. There is a pain meter on their system which registers frustration on the part of the players. Extra points are awarded if the players break their keyboards and/or screen-the developer/programmer team that scores the highest threshold recorded for their change each month gets an extra two weeks in Hawaii for vacation. Why not, most of the things in the game don't really make any sense! Never ask the question "which came first" in this game. It will generate too many new skills for the non pvp players and after learning them all you will find out you forgot the question. They are trying to get more people out into non-empire space to collect the goodies necessary to continue with the job. Hence the requirements for corp/alliance, Pos, stations, region control, etc. Hold it, most regions are already controlled by heavy pvp alliances who don't want anyone else there-its a ploy to get more pvp action after a horrendous expenditure of isk. They want you to just give up and buy it from "Bob"(generic character reference, not necessarily the alliance)-it will be cheaper in the long run. Why not?
