I called NTL after a 20 minute wait and their tech support guys were helpful they tried everything they could think of and tested the lines and they could find no faults so the problem isn't with ntl

Edited by: m17624 on 23/11/2007 19:21:11 Some good news guys!I got a reply to my petition first off they apologized for their time taking to reply, This isn't guaranteed to work but its a start to see if NTL is the problem heres what is said in the message
Hello,
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delayed reply.
If you could try the following and see if this eases the problems in case NTL took some measures on Port 26000:
1. locate the prefs.ini file. You can find this in the settings subfolder in the following location:
"%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" if you are on an english Windows 2000/XP (the path names are translated in other languages) and "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE" on Windows Vista
You may not be able to properly locate their parent folders as Windows is hiding them by default.
To properly locate them, either just copy the path into the explorers adress bar, or go to the "tools" menu, then "folder options" in your explorer browsing window. There, please look for "view" and in "hidden files and folders", please select "show hidden files and folders".
2. add the following line to the file and save it: networkAdvanced=1
3. If you start EVE now, you can enter a different port to connect to. Enter 3024 and connect.
Please let us know if the issue still persists then.
Best regards,
(I removed the GM's name) EVE Online Customer Support

The lack of official announcements is getting annoying though,I know they said its a known bug their working on it but the only said that to one player even with the new trinity upgrade i'm sure they have a hundred and one things to do but thats no excuse keeping hundreds if not thousands of players in the dark about the cause of it.
We won't even be compensated for our lost time I personally don't mind if theres a bug and I can't play for 3-4 days but its nearly 2 weeks, the money to pay for 1 account ok thats not to bad but what if someone had 3? That adds up to a fair bit for something you can't even play.
Come on CCP at least officially acknowledge the problem through an announcement or through the forums,at least then we'll know were not going to be left in the dark.

(NTL Broadband User) I have discovered something unusual, a petition that I have active with a GM asked for me to run a few pingplotter tests and I won't go into detail of all the results but all my pings for an hour turned out excellent, where is the unusual part you might ask? the second test I ran was to run pingplotter as I was playing Eve,I set a 1 second interval and sure enough within a few minutes I got a disconnection but heres the strange part, all the pings were still under 22ms with no packet loss...and I was monitoring it constantly no packet loss or high pins before the disconnection and none as it disconnected either....

I've sent my pingplotter logs into CCP and they show a high ping on 1 of their servers leading to the game server, another server thats run by chello also had a highish ping but their was no packet loss on either one, either way the packets aren't being lost on client side it would seem that either 1)the server is sending packets which are being lost for some reason or 2)the server is just not sending back data for a second or 2 causing us to lose connection.

Well one things for certain CCP aren't to bothered by it and should why would they they have 35,000 subscribers so what if a few hundred can't play its clearly not a problem with our isp's the problem is either server side or a problem with a server that our connections are routed through to get to the eve server.
CCP has to contact those server companies, they aren't going to do anything if a few random people call up complaining when their not even a customer to that company in anyway.
There is only 2 servers that could be causing the problems and I have given CCP the ip address's of both servers,1 of which belongs to them and 1 to a company called Chello.

I still wouldn't agree that its entirely an isp problem, another eve player fanjita has said "thats fair enough but if my friend logs on at my pc he gets the c++ errors all the time, when i play on my character same pc same connection same client i dont disconnect nor get the errors, seems odd to me."
That isn't being caused by an isp if it was fanjitas account would also be disconnected but his friend logs on and he disconnects, now that is very odd.

Just an update with the UPC Connection issues,my accounts time had expired but a GM has kindly added a few days to my subscription so I can run tests for them, they have said they are doing everything possible in resolving this and have not stopped trying to find a solution.
They haven't given up on finding a solution
