Quote: why would a small corp want a station? same reason any other corp.. to give there corp a home, a HQ, a identity.
I am enternally baffled over CCP's apparent refusal to learn from other MMOGs; these guys seemingly prefer to reinvent the wheel.
Virtual real estate has for years been a central feature for a game called Ultima Online. The history of that design is full of pointers about why such property should exist, how it should be implemented and what should be avoided.
Yet instead of invulnerable, modular public locations within safely accessible space, we get this travesty of a fig-leaf. I now declare the intellect-free flame fest open...

Hrmmm i see many possibilities here. Maybe m0o will become the "station liberators" of eve and we will than auction off stations maybe back to owners or their enemies. SOUNDS LIKE FUN TO ME!!!!!!!!

Good idea Teel, would beat waiting in space for forces to outnumber us 5 to 1, they would have no choice to fight, either that or they lose there station

Maybe they don't want their game to be like any other MMOGs? Perhaps they're trying to offer something new, something different from Ultima, Ever*****, etc. I've certainly found those other games to be monumentally dull but I'm loving Eve.
Anyway, about these stations. The way I see it there is going to be an almighty battle over these unclaimed structures. Any corp that joins the race to grab one is going to be putting an awful lot on the line for what is a largely undefined reward.
I hope everyone has fun with this but at the same time I hope a whole lot of isk flows back to the market through lost ships, insurance, clones, etc. bringing the larger corps down a notch or two. Maybe this could level the playingfield somewhat?

Good for you. But you're either grossly misunderstanding my point or twisting my words - my point touches on a concept, not on any specific design. Repeating past mistakes doesn't make this game any different and it certainly doesn't make it any better.

Sorry, I did misunderstand your point. I thought you were suggesting they repeat what other games did right rather than avoid what they did wrong.
Apologies. |
