Not to flame but honestly: If you find this distastefull why did you pick a game that is billed as a dark future world?
There was no sign of this backstory when I started playing, and while some people may think that they picked the game because of the backstory ... they are actually talking bull (to win an internet argument lulz) |

I picked eve cause it was billed as a dark future world, fight for survival stuff, as well as the free for all pvp aspect.

Also podding, 1400mm arty cannon, player gets fragged in spectacular squishy insta death.

I havent heard a sound from eve in 3 years. Annoying warping sound 4tl (not to mention the lag I used to get with sound enabled)

The average subscriber age of EVE online is 27.
If all those adults can't put up with seeing a (noticeably bloodless) depiction of a man getting his brains blown out, then God help them, I say. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

Edited by: MITSUK0 on 29/08/2007 12:53:31 Well if that is the case (turning off sound makes it ok)
Use adblock or something similar (firefox has it) and adblock the image.
Problem solved.

Proof?
I'd say this is the average age of the owners of the credit cards that are used to pay, unless they used the "date of birth" field from the Account Details page, where you can enter anything you want.
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

Dunno about your corp, but my active mains corp only has 1 or 2 members who are younger than 20, most are in the 21 - 30 age range.

Source: Various interviews with CCP staff (if I could link to them, I would, but I'm not in the habit of saving random URLs)
How they came to that number: god knows. Ask them.
I'm just repeating what I've heard the Devs say. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

The proof of average subscriber age comes from a CCP dev blog. I can't be bothered to go find it though.
Also remember that the backstory is mostly limited to the website, rather than the game. You don't have to come to the website very much in order to play the game.
Also, at the end of the day, whether you find something offensive or not, it's CCP's website, and they can put up what they like on it really.

I have seen many extremely bloody things in my life (fictional and real). This does not mean that I have to put up with seeing it, especially somewhere where I frequent on a regular basis (it will turn up in the pictures on the right of the forum soon no doubt)

this thread turned into complete disgust. are some of you really that braindead?
OF COURSE we all know, the real world is a cruel place. people get raped, killed, beaten up, eaten and god knows what else, like EVERY ****IN DAY.
eve is also supposed to be a cold and harsh place, no news here.
were all against censorship, i think we can agree on that.
but please, what the **** is wrong with you guys? since when was it cool to be desensitized against violence? since that seems to be the general opinion on the topic... sheesh...

Average ages aside...
If you dont want to see the image then use one of the numerous net-nanny applications to block the image then you do not have to look at.
Just like you turn off sound if you dont want to hear death screams when you terminate and biomass an unwanted character.

Of course you don't have to put up with it. But in this case, not putting up with it means making the choice not to use the website, or to block the offending images via some kind of browser tool like adblock.
Remember, just like you don't have to put up with images you find distasteful, I don't have to put up with censorship of everything. The difference is that you can choose not to even look at the images If things are censored, I don't have a choice to be able to view an un-censored version. Or maybe I do. But that's not likely as CCP aren't likely to go to the effort of making two versions of everything, so would just stick to one or the other. In this case it seems like they have chosen to keep their violent theme.

I wonder what kind of percentage of threads here contain at least one post like the one above? its almost like they use a template of some sort:

Edited by: CCP Abraxas on 29/08/2007 13:24:28 So far the chronicles have featured all manners of torture, mutilation, suffering, violent deaths, drug use and, on one memorable occasion, projectile vomiting.
They have also featured reflections and commentary on life, love, the meaning of relationships, fatherhood, handicapped right to life, ethics, change and transcendence.
In short, they reflect the various facets of life, good and bad, and as a result their taste, quality and value of interest are going to vary from reader to reader. If you don't like the corresponding picture for this particular story, that's a shame. It will be replaced in two weeks' time, when the next story is published.
And whoever made that Hello Kitty version owes me a new keyboard.

My point is that if you don't like it, then you are at liberty not to look at it. my post was there to underline the point that the EVE playerbase is, on average, sufficiently mature to make their own decisions.
This is not a game for younglings. EVE is a drama of political machinations and war on a galactic scale - hardly juvenile themes. We're playing in a sandbox where there's nothing to stop you from scamming the other kids out of their sweeties - provided you don't mind the other kids ganging up on you for it.
If you're offended by that image, then that's all very well and good - just don't look at it. That's your prerogative as a thinking adult. It's my prerogative as a thinking adult, on the other hand, to see that picture and think "cool! New chronicle!". What being a thinking adult doesn't give you is the right to try and force your thinking adult opinion down my thinking adult throat. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

Any other facets of life? gardening, going for a swim, sex?
But yes I can see the reason for it, eye catching pictures to encourage people to click and read the chronicle.

I was making a joke. This thread is far too serious for it's own good
And you could quit, if you find the material CCP confront you with unacceptable. No ones forcing you to visit this site or anything. I'm not suggesting you do, just pointing out you don't "have to put up" with anything. --------

Anything I would have said has echoed through this thread many times and the radioactive alt ignores most of it. Just for clarification, you can censor all the content you don't want to see on your computer. I can not get something uncensored if the only version of it is something you would condone.
The whole problem with this thread is that radioactive alt wants to censor what others see. I do not have any qualms with what he/she likes or does not like. Trying to tell CCP that something is too brutal and implying no one else should see this violent version is rather tasteless don't you think?
