Yesterday at one of my factories on Chaven a tragic accident occured. Several Amarrian workers were working in a hangar where the final construction and fitting of Crusader frigates takes place when an explosion near some storage tanks turned into an inferno. No Amarrians were among the casualties however one Minmatar was killed. It is the way he was killed that I will speak of today.
While still being investigated it is believed some gaseous material near the tanks was ignited by a spark from a piece of equipment left on by a careless slave. Fortunately no one was working in the immediate area and injuries were slight. The problem occured when the automated fire system failed to engage and extinguish the subsequent fire. While the bulkhead doors deployed sealing off the affected area the fire system remained off thus trapping those inside. 23 Amarrian Engineers were present as well as 5 guards and 4 Minmatar slaves. While the Amarrians bravely tried to fight the fire 3 of the Minmatar slaves reacted with panic and tried to escape.
One did not.
One slave stayed behind and committed an act of bravery and loyalty to save the Amarrians present from certain death or serious injury. Moving toward the fire and the control station behind it he tossed himself into harms way and managed to reach the fire control station where he activated the system manually. The fire was extinguished and the engineers, guards and slaves as well as several hundred million isk in frigates were saved.
The slave "Jonas" however was not among them.
After the fire was supressed and the bulkhead fire doors opened rescue crews streamed inside. The Amarrians were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns while the Minmatar slaves were treated for panic disorder. The Amarrians had tried to reach the slave Jonas but had been unsuccessful. Calls of "find the slave and help him" rang out from the injured Amarrians.
Sadly it was too late.
The body of Jonas was found shortly thereafter huddled behind a charred panel, his hand still gripping the control bar activating the fire supression system. An autopsy shortly after concluded he died of a heart attack giving his life to save his masters and fulfilling his duty to the Empire.
This sacrifice can not go unrecognized nor unrewarded. And it will not.
I have ordered the release of all family members related to this slave. A total of 2463 slaves identified as being of the clan who are near Enlightenment status. These slaves who are members of the clain Jonas was a member of will be flown by myself this weekend onboard my personal Bestower ship the TES Slaver I to Minmatar space and released to representatives who pledge to take them to Matar and provide safe homes for them with the only condition being they do not engage in terrorism. These 2463 slaves include 1105 adult men, 714 women and 644 children. I only need to know who will take them into custody.
While Jonas was nearing enlightenment and was soon to become an Ammatar I know several of these 2463 slaves are not. Still his action shall not go unrewarded and his loyalty shall not be forgotten. It is not often a heathen is recognized in this manner yet we Amarrians are fair, firm and caring with the Minmatar in our charge. We recognize when a Minmatar does his duty to God and Empire and gives his life to save his bettors.

I have a dream that one day the Amarrians will see this sacrifice as one human being for others, not as a slave for his betters. Too easy is it to fall into objectification of others, as evidenced by other recent posts on IGS. Then we shall be one day closer to all being free of their hubris.

A very benign act Archbishop. Jonas proved to be a noble human, saving others at the cost of his own. What's more is the release of the 2436 slaves. It's an extremely impressive move to make despite its risk. Your actions speak volumes in my eyes.
However, it is my belief that the success of rebellions are God's way of telling us that Reclamation in the form of slavery is incorrect. I condemn the capture of any more slaves. Through compassion and generosity others will seek to be converted, not forced. The release of these slaves is an act of kindness, especially when you are aware that several have not reached Enlightenment. As an Empire, we need more benevolent gestures like this to strengthen our relations with the unholy.

You operate from mistaken assumption if you believe we consider these Minmatar as "equals". It is our ability to see them for what they are and take them in to nurture and educate them that has provided your race with a future. The sacrifice of Jonas was great because he had neared Enlightenment and saw his duty to God and Empire not because he was a human caring for another human. That duty to his bettors and God led him to this act. It is for that I do this.

To imply they would owe me a favor implies they have something I would desire. This is false by assumption as it is we Amarr who give the gift of God to the heathens and bring them into service.

While you have not been a favorable poster in your views of the Amarr Empire I do recognize your neutrality in war thus I would be willing to meet you in space at a neutral site in the Minmatar Republic. I in my Bestower and you in whatever Minmatar creation you fly to haul things. There we will exchange and go our seperate ways.

Archbishop I would will honor your request to not turn over the transfers to any organization that you deem as being terrorists. I am also willing to come into Amarr space to retrieve these freed presons. Quite frankly I have no intention of turning them over to any third party organization other then the Sisters of Eve or the Republic if they are willing to take them (assuming they don't make your list). If they are not then I will offer them employment and/or educational services within the bounds of Colonial Fleet Services.
Further as "free" persons I will not interfer with their choices in regards to religion. If they choose to maintain their affiliation with the Amarr church they may do so while under my care. I do not want ideas/religions foisted upon me so I will respect their choice if it is the one that they make. That is part of being free to me....the ability for them to do as they choose.

Gulletsplitter. That is satisfactory and I will contact you regarding a meeting location shortly. While I do not agree with you on the religious issue I do have faith the training and compassion shown to them to date will carry forward and they will become emissaries of God in the Minmatar Republic. Those who fail were already chosen to fail by God thus I would not disobey His plan.

It's a tribute to the Matari spirit whenever one brave soul values the lives of others so highly that he willingly sacrifices his own to save theirs.
I applaud you Jonas.
I also applaud the rather uncharacteristic act of what might be construed as humanity on the part of Archbishop in repaying Jonas' bravery in such a meaningful way. I urge you to hold fast to this sliver of humanity; if it survives and flourishes, perhaps some day you will become worthy of living in peace with.

Why not give them over to me good Bishop? I would greatly enjoy hearing of the beliefs you have been so careful to instill in them before returning them to the company of we heathens. Yes, I would see them safely to Tribal lands and listen to what they have to say.

I wouldn't turn them over to Evanda Char I'll certainly not turn them over to a heathen like yourself. Your violence prone organization not withstanding you are perhaps one of the most lacking Minmatar in the category of redemptive value I can think of. As for "chains" I do not normally chain slaves nor do I view providing religious guidance as putting "chains around the mind".

My operatives have been in contact with the Minmatar and plans have been made to turn the slaves over to him tomorrow. My fellow loyalists in the SPCS have offered to transport the slaves for me so I can fly in a warship as escort. I may take this route as I have heard from the Minmatar who will receive these slaves that he has been offered large sums of money to reveal the trade location to terrorist organizations. He has instead kept his word he assures me and not told anyone where the trade will take place.
I would hope the terrorists would have more morality than to disparage the honor of such a Minmatar as Jonas with an attack.
