it doesn't matter how intensive it's for the DB.
i'm sure it's as difficult to code/query as the packaged/repackaged status of BPOs (if you have just baught one it appears as repackaged and can be sold on the market). You tell me that whoever has 200 new bpos and 200 old ones is creating the games lag? ccp has never mentioned something like that. it still queries the DB for that info and nobody ever notices.
all this talk about how difficult it is to implement is absurd.
I'll agree it's not top of the line issue/bug/feature/you name it. But it surely would help a lot of people.
On a final note, i'm not one of those that require it, so i'm just on the /signed wagon, I sympathise more with the people that have to "show info" all these BPs than with a developer. On this matter at least.
PS. new features is not the same as new bugs, maybe it's most of the times but I can imagine not in this one.

This doesnt require a database change. Its just a simple client end conditional statement that checks the number of runs and loads one of two possible icons for it, nothing more complicated. That would take a programmer a day tops.
And anyone who says that this is not worth the effort has never seen a BP in eve.

Yes, it does matter. If there's lots of extra database lag because of this, it means more lag for other users in a whole host of other situations - the database is more or less what eve is, apart from the number crunching. Going about willy-nilly trashing on the database for easier operation wouldn't help things.
I mean, not to be overdramatic, but would you support Green BPCs if it meant Jita goes wonky with half as many people as now?

Its not. How difficult something is to do, especially compared to how much benefit there is to it, is very important. Again, overdramatic warning, but would you rather the devs spent a month - heck, a week - on green BPCs or on fixing lag?
It'll come one of these days. Its been suggested before, and they'll do it when it seems reasonable. ------------------------------------ My statements are not those of my corp or of my alliance, nor anyone else.

The devs have stated before it does require a database change based on the way BPCs and BPOs work, being in essence the same item type with different properties. Its also why I can't sort my ships by the number of lowslots or my ammo by the damage types they do; because it'd take additional information to do so on my end that the client doesn't necessarily have at all times - so doing so would require a lot of unnecessary database queries, which is BAD.
I'm all for changing it. Really. I just wish people would stop armchair theorizing about how the code is written and actually ask someone about how the code is written. ------------------------------------ My statements are not those of my corp or of my alliance, nor anyone else.

while I generaly agree with the above, I guess it would take VERY LONG to load a container full of BPs with that feature on.
just keep separate cans for copies and that's it.

I'd like to see an idea like this implemented as well.
BPO's should be blue (after all, theyre "blue" prints right?" and copies should be other color, like dark green or orange or something to differentiate them. Keep them darkish like BPOs are tho.
Maybe even give different print types different names. Right now if you search for "Megathron Blueprint" on contracts, you find both Originals and Copies (if there are any originals for sale anyway). Maybe allow people to search for "Megathron BPC" or "Megathron BPO" perhaps with "Megathron Blueprint" retaining its ability to search for both?

Yes as we speak there is a Raven BPC auctioned at 100Mo buyout 750... it would end scammers day but it would make the gate gankers days better since they would spot BPOs in cargos in no time.
Maybe the devs considered changing the client was not the best way, I don't know, however we all agree it would not be easy to make but it's possible and surely it would be very helpful to many of us.
