This is more of an eye candy feature, but I think it would add to the game in terms of visuals and that is important fro Eve as its visuals are regarded as one of the best.
I think it would be visually stunning if a gun actually missed the target (visually) rather than hitting them and doing no damage. If the gun is not going to any damage to the targetted ship, the projectile or laser might go over or under or any other way rather than hitting the target. This would not only make some great movies, but it would also give an approx. idea to people who are engaged in combat about which ship is getting hit which ship gets missed (like an interceptor getting missed while using mwd).
I don't know how hard it is to implement some kind of random missing shots logic in to the game, but I really think it would make it more true in nature.
Thx.

Amen. It looks rather silly to see the text box say 'Your massive gun completely misses the tiny frig' and if you look at the frig the shell not only hits it but goes off (and perhaps even makes a solid center hit). It would look quite cool to have 'missed' shots fly off past the target and continue off. Also 'glacing shots' richocheting off into space.
I'm not crazy enough to ask that either of those be given a chance to hit something else, the computations (and exploit potential) are just too much there. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Aye, it could be 100% client-side. No need to tax the server with extra math, but when you get the "misses completely" message, the shot should fly past the target. It would make tackling so much more exciting.

Yeah, I think it could be client-side only as well...nothing to complicated just a random miss.

I'm guessing I'm the only one in eve who has sound / Turrets / Effects off incase of lag?
But you are right, would make some nice movie shots :)

I like this idea since I'm tired of watching my pulses miss the guristas pirate while clearly watching the blast hit the ship...
It would make for some nice eye candy watching the laser go past the target -------------------

As long as the visual effect isn't too dramatic. Who here who played CoH at all remembers watching a blaster with a machine gun standing 2ft in front of a target aiming his gun right at the target and suddenly his gun points straight up in the air and fires off a salve because it was determined to be a miss. Even better when the gun points straight down and the blaster shoots himself in the foot.

you know,i wanted something like this for like 2 years or sth (since i started playing) so SIGNED
also, good thing would be make shots not pass through solid objects like asteroids, stations, other ships etc,but hit them and not hit the target through them ofcourse this is a totally different thing and would require some heavy coding, but a man can dream, right? ------------------------------------------------ When you get to the end of your journey, everything that really matters is the journey itself. |

never thought of that...tha would be nice to see as well...guns getting blocked by whatever is in front of you and I think combat might just become a lil bit more interesting.

Just an addition to this:
Its a great idea but id like the effects of the autocannon modifying... sure it fires quite fast but id rather see multiple smaller shots coming out of the guns than one stream of fire...
Would be so much cooler

You do realise that tracers are used solely as an aid for manual aiming and computerised targeting systems don't need them?

Edited by: Checkle on 02/09/2007 09:39:54 Well it would be better to have the hit animation to match the power of the shot.
The client would have an animation for each type of accuracy (misses completely, aimed perfectly, wrecking damage, etc).
Just looking at the ship you're shooting you can have a good idea of what's happening.

Yes I am. was just using it as an easily visualized example. Tank rounds do the same thing at a range, which i guess would have been a more apt description.
