Now that CCP have made the Ice Harvester Upgrade II available I thought I'd look at trying to fit them on my Mackinaw using the EFT.
Only problem is you can't fit 2 of them onto the ship.
With all skills at L5 2x Ice Harvester Upgrade II 2x Ice Harvester II needs 236.14cpu and the ship has 235cpu, and it leaves the 4 mid slots empty.
Surely this should be fitable on the top ship that is used for ice mining ?
Originally by: CCP Arkanon I frown on employees being power players to the extent that their gameplay results in any sort of domination over others. I donĘt believe CCP employees should run the EVE universe.

Apparently you are supposed to employ a CPU hardwiring implant

As the Mack only has 2 low slots, a CPU upgrade unit would take the place of one of the IHU-IIs, making the CPU upgrade not necessary.

try fitting it with 2 x cargo rigs, 1 x t2 expanded cargo and 1 x t2 ice mining upgrade.
i find this works better overall allowing you 2 full cycles of ice. benefit is much better than getting 6/7 bits of ice rather than 8 :)

This doesn't fix the problem of the Mackinaw being unable to fit them. . . And in a gang ice mining operation, you have haulers on hand to chuck those first 4 cubes to in the time it takes to get the next 4 cubes.
The Mackinaw can't fit them, even when it fits no tank whatsoever. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

You could try a slot 10, 'Highwall' HY-*, implant gives a reduction to CPU penalty on upgrades (but you probably have a slot 10 implant already) or slot 6, 'Gypsy' KMB-*, implant that adds CPU.

To follow on what he said:
With the Gypsy KMB-75, you'll have 146.75 CPU. With the Highwall HY-2 you'll use 234.88
Either way, you'd be able to fit it. ____________________ Skill Showroom |

Hate to say it, but there needs to be a skill that reduces miner CPU usage by 5% per level or just tie it to weapon upgrades (which would make less sense, but be better for most of us). That would take care of most of the fitting skill problems miners have, but I don't see it ever comming as miners get partial love... not quite all the way there but we need some one to do the dirty work kinda love.

should not be required to fit for max yield with NO TANK and 4 empty midslots -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

The Mack has always been CPU-starved. This just gives us a very obvious example of it.

i cannot understand the logic here, would somebody with more time check to see if a hulk with 3xt2 strips and 2x IHUII can outmine a mack? i'd be interested to see as i bet it's close

Hulk 3xT2 ice harv, 2 x T2 IHU, no yeti implant, exhumer skill at 4, Ice harvester skill at 5 Cycle = 270.6, 13.3 cycles per hour, 39.9 cubes per hour
If I were in a Mack with same skills and 2 T2 IHU and 2 T2 Ice Harv Cycle = 307.5, 11.7 cycles per hour, 46.8 cubes per hour
The Mack would be better by 17%. I use the Hulk for its cargo bay and being able to not drag-drop each cycle.

Just thaught of another comparison... for those who are having trouble fitting 2 x T2 IHUs on the Mack.
With the variables above, if the Mack fitted 1 T2 IHU and 1 T1 IHU, he would still be better than the hulk by 12%
