4 Helldeaths, and so far absolutely nothing that can reasonably even be called a fight, just a whole bunch of sensor damps.
Seems all the innovation this year basically comes down to " How many Damps can we get on the battlefield with our 100 points".
It sucks.
EDIT: Just seen the tournament channel. Doh.

Until I next go into battle anyway
Lol. Yeah all you have to do is make sure your opponent understands that they can't warp, can't go too fast, and can't leave a prescribed area that is entirely within heavy launcher range and you're in good shape :P

Yes and no.
I enjoyed it but honestly what was MOST of what we saw?
Caracals and Maulus out the yin-yang. Sure there were other ships but these were by far the most represented ships there and the Maulus was all about damps. I saw a few Abaddons who were largely made useless because of this.
Lesson? Don't bring a gun ship to these fights. It is missiles and damps with some logistics.

"Tbh" its early days to be calling it a dampner festival. Sure we lost due to better ew and sensor dampners but that does not mean that all the teams will go that way. For every tactic there is a counter. Would like to know what that is before our next match but there ya go. Ya have to be in it to win it. Man I hope im not primary agin

I agree with the op. Damps are overpowered and something needs to be done with them like a chance based change.

Most of those fights were quite amusing, especially the Drake vs Caracal showdown towards the end, I think that was with chaos. Anyways I can't wait for more!

Damps have a base optimal range of 30km(and some silly falloff), wasnt there a fight with two arty muninns who completly slaughtered a damp heavy enemy before they ever got into damp range? Seems like damps are easy enough to counter, the question is wether the coutner makes your setup unviable vs nondamp setups.

"silly" falloff is good. After skills they have an optimal of 45k and a falloff of 90k. This makes them still rather effective for up to 100k. With rigs they can be equally efficient at 150k as ECM.

All of the fights have been illuminating. The caracal slaughter where ships instapopped was amazing, as was Goonies close range fight. BoB was very impressive but relied on a more balanced fleet. What is most interesting is how lethal ecm/sensor damping cruisers are against battleship fleets. While this tournament is not way representative of true PvP, it does highlight that sensor dampening is the new ECM issue.
Personally, I think a nerf is on the cards, but whether it becomes chance based is another thing. Perhaps, a nerf in the form of balancing sensor boosting against sensor dampening may be reasonable but we shall see.

In real PvP, damps are not as effective because engagement ranges vary considerably, all you need to do is get in close and pop the damping ships.
Dampers seem unbalanced in the tournament because contestants can't warp off, and the damping team gets to pick engagement range. Add to this the fact that tackle is unneccesary and it automatically plays to a Caracal's strengths, which in real PvP are easy to counter by closing range or warping off and back.

I think you forgot the 3rd tournament was also a damp shagfest, biased towards gallente in fight for that very reason, so the onyl fair way is to allow all or nothing, personally i feel the rules are the best they could be, despite my personal distaste for ewar.
that and the best named damps now cost 15m alongside arb heavies due to the intense missle spam ___________________ "The Views & Opinions Expressed In This Post Represent Those of My Corporation & Alliance. So Go **** Yourself" DJTheBaron: FATAL Alliance Diplomat |
