Since the cache and the settings were moved into the MyDocument folder some versions ago it was not possible to start two eve-clients with the same user under WindowsXP with different default eve-users.
Due to the same folder for cache and settings of the two eve-clients the settings of one of the clients were corrupted every time your machine crashes due to e.g. power failure or blue-screen.
Some time ago I asked in this forum how to work around this problem. I found a solution. I just run the 2 eve-clients in to different WindowsXP users. The eve-clients are started via "runas".
Until 2.2.0 this works very fine. The eve-clients had their own cache/settings directory and no problem anymore with the default user or machine crashes.
Now with 2.2.0 you can start several eve-clients only with the same WindowsXP user. If you try to start a second eve-client with a different user it just vanish without any trace.
After I tried to start bin/exefile.exe by hand while one eve-client was already running as a different user I got following result:
EVE Client version 3.22 build 36191 starting 8/31/2007 11:38:53 PM Multi-Language System: Client using language [EN] Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/common/lib\log.py", line 292, in LogException File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/common/lib\log.py", line 417, in _LogThreadLocals File "C:/Depot/eve/LIVE/common/lib\nasty.py", line 119, in GetLocalStorage TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not callable
If I start the second eve-client as the same user I get:
EVE Client version 3.22 build 36191 starting 8/31/2007 11:40:44 PM Multi-Language System: Client using language [EN] EVE Client version 3.22 build 36191 started 8/31/2007 11:40:44 PM Starting services Service dataconfig : 0.000 sec Service machoNet : 0.001 sec Service objectCaching : 0.000 sec Service invCache : 0.000 sec Service godma : 0.000 sec Service photo : 0.000 sec Service counter : 0.000 sec Service LSC : 0.000 sec Service patch : 0.000 sec Service inv : 0.000 sec Service michelle : 0.000 sec Service billboard : 0.000 sec Service pwn : 0.000 sec Service focus : 0.000 sec Service debug : 0.000 sec Service jumpQueue : 0.000 sec Starting services - Done Service moonScan : 0.000 sec Service ui : 0.000 sec Service gameui : 0.110 sec Service device : 0.012 sec Service draw : 0.000 sec Service loading : 0.000 sec Service connection : 0.000 sec Service damage : 0.000 sec Service envAudio : 0.000 sec Service logger : 0.001 sec Service audio : 0.001 sec Service vivox : 0.000 sec Service monitor : 0.000 sec Service ownerprimer : 0.000 sec Service petition : 0.000 sec Service help : 0.000 sec SetVoiceVolume not implemented: 0.900000 Service form : 0.000 sec Service window : 0.000 sec Service log : 0.000 sec Service fonts : 0.019 sec Service z : 0.000 sec Service war : 0.000 sec Service consider : 0.000 sec Service forumPortraits : 0.000 sec Service ime : 0.238 sec Service sites : 0.001 sec Service journal : 0.001 sec Service insurance : 0.000 sec Service medical : 0.000 sec Service station : 0.000 sec Service cmd : 0.007 sec
What ever CCP has done, they now made it totally impossible to run two eve-clients with different settings/cache directories.

try adding the switches /end /LUA:OFF to the end of your shortcut to eve, this forces the cache to be created inside the EVE directory like it used to.

Many thanks!
Still you can not run 2 eve-clients with different users with this. I get the same error. I filed a bug report for it.
I just got used to use 2 windows users because with 2 users I can set the default audio-device per user and when ever I start the second eve-client it automatically uses the other audio-device. EVE (or my sound drivers) has still the bug to crash sometimes (especially in missions) if 2 clients use the same. Also I use the monitor speakers of the second monitor for the second eve-client. They are connected to the on-board audio.

by using the above switch if you have two eve clients installed they'll each have seperate caches so you'll be able to have seperate settings for each of them. The downside is it takes up extra space on your hard drive.

I just noticed that you can set the audio-device inside the eve-client. Nice!

We've found the cause for this issue and obtained a fix. Unfortunately, however, since the problem was in 3rd party code, we were unable to obtain the fix in time for Revelations 2.2.1, which will be released tomorrow. We will try and release the fix as soon as possible.
