Quote: Pirating is VERY easy and hold little responsibility for their actions
It's only a lure for people looking for quick isk because of threads like this, telling people that piracy is as easy as falling out of the station and opening a convo with someone.
There's not as much isk in piracy as some people think. Occasionally, someone will hit it big with a nice looted BP, or some mega, but those are the exception, rather than the rule.
A lot of the anti-pirates are digging their own graves by telling the entire world that piracy is easy, and people will just give you all their ****.
Piracy isn't easy. There are times when it can be, but as a rule, pirate corps are small, and it's not like we outnumber any but the weakest anti-pirate corps, and these days, to even hold an area, you need either a decent fleet, or a low-traffic chokepoint.
But give someone enough rope...
Here's a very similar example, to help explain this phenomena:
Before concord, people could kill almost at will, anywhere. Concord were bought in, this stopped the majority of killings in 0.5+ systems. Fair enough, there needs to be a safe area.
Then people complained that people were scrambling and webbing them at gates (either to intimidate the victim into paying a toll, or as prep for a ganking). So webs and warp scramblers were flagged as hostile modules, and their use will cause your ship's death.
Now this is where the fun starts:
Some jetcan miner in the empire complained that some kid in an indy rolled into his belt, up to his can, emptied it, and laughed in local. The miner could do nothing about it. Best bet would be to take better precautions, and try to avoid the theif in the future.
But no.
They had to post it on the forums, telling people that it was totally possible to rob another persons ore, and that there were no negative ramifications to doing so. They beefed up their story to make them look less like fat greedy bastards, and more like poor hapless victims, probably in the vain hope that CCP would come to them, and have a crying-circle, and fix this nasty problem.
All it did was give every half-pint monkey in the game free reign to steal ore. Many have done it. I even did it once, to see how it was. I mean, they actually gave out instructions in their complaint posts.
The same thing is gonna happen again here, but with less success, as people *keep* going on and on about how easy the pirates life is. People will see stuff like this, skim through, read 'easy', 'money' and 'pirate', and go off to buy a bb.
Piracy may seem easy from the outside looking in, but there's more to it than most people realise. I could say the same about many professions. Bounty hunters for example. If we took the 'basic' view that pirates just hug a gate all night, and shoot things that come through.. Wouldn't that mean that bounty hunting is even easier? I mean, pirates never move anywhere, right? Pirates are only there to gank 'noobs', so they won't be equipped to fight anything their own size...
I'm sick of 'PIRATEEING ARE EAESY' threads, truly I am.
I could say that mining was a risk-free, easy, cheap, and dull pastime. It is, and I can speak from experience.
When miners talk about piracy though, the experience is just not there. .
