Taken from this article about the new ambulation http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/11410
Quote: In addition to gambling, there will be a variety of liquor and other alcoholic beverages to drink and tobacco to smoke. Although there are drugs available in EVE Online (which are called boosters in-game), the developers haven't decided whether players will be able to actually use them on their avatars. They also haven't decided whether drinking or smoking will have any actual effect on your character's perception or on the actions they take within the game.
CCP you've given us smugglers and drug dealers a rough time over the years, however, we support this idea whole heartedly and would love to see it implemented. Maybe we would not be the forgotten profession anymore.
So if you are someone who is involved in drugs in eve, or just a general forum reader and think this would be cool, please show your support.

forgotten profession? was it a profession ever? to my knowledge, drugs were only used in a few agent, which are gone with the new LP shop. there is no use for them left isnt it? are you talking about boosters or drugs?

Well, there are many things I want in ambulation, when it comes to content. But no matter how good the content side of it is, I will steer away from it all, if the controls are the standard FPS keymapping. Like W,A,F,C or whatever it is! The control setting makes my handwrist hurt, and I simply HATE that control setting!! Loathe are maybe a more fitting word..
SO CCP! GIVE US CHARACTER MOUSE CONTROL! Like, you click where you want your character to go!!
Oh, when I tested LOTRO I left after 10 minuts when I learned it was FPS keyboard mapping, plus I could not map certain key movements to the mouse. So that meant bye bye LOTRO for me... No great loss really, since I never planned to leave EVE anyway. But I would HATE to see CCP make the same mistake here!
If any both should be more then viable options!

I'm sure we would also be happy to provide chemical entertainment for any ambulation party goers who are that way inclined. I hope CCP include the effects and side effects in the model animations as well as how scenes are rendered... it might be quite telling on their animation team if they do it too well

If you have access to the systems, drugs make AMAZING profit when you trade them.

There is a seperate thread here about ambulation in a more general sense.

yeh CCP killed it off with the loyalty store, they may try and rectify it, we managed to get their attention about it.
but yeh, we actually talking about drugs here, yep it was a profession, there was good ISK to be made, enough to buy me a few carriers, and many of my corp mates. was quite a nice underground scene surrounding it, many people obviously didn't know it. but yeh it's smuggling, it wouldn't be what it was, if everyone was doing it

We need useable drugs in the game, if we're having Ambulation.
Should be portrayed warts-and-all, with horrible side effects (addiction, corrosion of implants, perhaps even loss of ability to interface with a pod) to keep the goody two-shoes morality crowd off the devs' backs (because I assume that is what they are worried about). It's an anti-drug message, you see.
After all, if you can murder people in a computer game why can't you take drugs in a computer game? Taking drugs might be illegal and bad for you but it's not as illegal or as bad as killing people.

Ahà.sorry dude but u know not of modern day businessà
DonÆt you know the negative press sells games like hot cakes ??
GTA BioShock
As well as other things like Paris Hilton, nothing brought her to TV other than àyou know. But think about it we all know who is the wealthy girl that made that video and got on the interweb.
But do we know who made the latest medical achievement? Or who made solar panels? àshort answer no.
Bad press for the win, I say slap an A ratting on EVE and add some vice to match the game play and eve will win. I can guarantee this 1000%.

Well, there surely is a line to be drawn somewhere.
These so called anti-whatever themes you see in movies and such often fail miserably, serving the oposite purpose than what they were meant to be deterring you from.
It s with adults as it is with kids. How many kids/adults arent in one way or another pretending to be shooting, stabbing, clubbing one another to bits n pieces over and over again while playing games, despite knowing what real war does to humans?
How many do tobacco, alcohol and drugs knowing what their potential side effects are and yet they persist?
It only seem to start matter to an individual only if it afflicts him/her 1st hand and personally - up until then it s all liberal and cool.
Showing an anti-drug statement movie ('Ett AnstSndigt Liv' from the mods trillogy by Stefan Jarl) for a group of youngsters, around 14-15, more or less all came out after the sitting joking and laughing thinking the main characters were cool just because they lived on the edge, sort of anti-heroes, victims of authority, society and adult norms.
Go figure.
Dark and seedy atmosphere, aye, but how much should be left to imagination and how much should have an actual implementation in the game world?
Just follow the long and winding red line stretching out from here and you shall soon find out ...

Edited by: Redpants on 03/09/2007 05:54:08 Let's be honest here. This is an online game for adults. And there's even alot of adults who don't like this kind of game because it requires thinking. EVE attracts, for the most part, a more mature player. I know there are minors who subscribe, but they are a minority and aren't likely sheltered either.
Let's put this in perspective. Every minor who plays this game has GTA sitting in his collection and has been "making love" to hookers in the back of stolen police cars for years!!
Now I think the concept of taking something to power up has been ingrained in our heads since Super Mario. I really couldn't identify with people who would be outraged or in anyway affected by people in space doing drugs of the future.
I think that since they're in the game...they should be IN the game.

As long as drugs and alchohol are done right and presented realisticly then im all for it. remember guys ambulatiosn is about realism and not only would this add to the realism it would add a profession and another layer to the world. You owuld have those nice plushy bars for the rich kids and then the low end seedy ones with drugs and stuff. If this was implimented right it could really add to the game oyu woulds see drug cartels and everyhting. Maybe if your a drug runner you would get factons ot place bountys on you or be outlawed in certian areas. Also boosters should fall into this catagory.
