If you had maxed skills for missiles and rockets, and you wanted to equip your frigate for PvP, which would be best and why?
It seems missiles do more damage per hit, but have a slower rate of fire than rockets. However, are they really as equal as they seem on paper?

Kestral with rockets and maxed skills s alot of dps for a tech I frigate, id say 200+......
Im working on missle skills myself atm for the new khanid ships, 2 days from rockets v, but oh man do I have a long way to go for Support skills...
I remember back when Privateers were war decking everyone, I undocked a crusader in Jita only to find a sensor boosted, webing, rocket launching Kestral outside the station.Nothing has ever killed a intie of mine faster...

1) Depends on opponent 2) Depends on your ship 3) Depends on opponenets ship 4) Depends on your playstyle 5) Depends on rest of the fitting 6) Depends on other priorities such as cost efficiency. 8) Depends on how long you care to make the dependancy list. 7) ??????? 10) PROFIT!

To answer each of these:
1) Depends on opponent - As it's PvP, this is unknown! 2) Depends on your ship - I prefer Rifter, Firetail, Dramiel. 3) Depends on opponenets ship - Unknown! 4) Depends on your playstyle - Fast T1/faction frigates with maxed navigation skills 5) Depends on rest of the fitting - I fit T2 autocannons, and the rest for speed with either shields or armor. 6) Depends on other priorities such as cost efficiency. - I can afford T2 with T2/faction ammo, but I don't buy faction/officer launchers normally. 8) Depends on how long you care to make the dependancy list. 7) ??????? 10) PROFIT! - Profit comes second to fun!

Missles are awsome I dont care what anyone says...
Capless, no range issues, there are speed tanked issues, but everyone has that problem.......DPS is a tad low, but again, no range issues...

The impression I'm forming is that rockets are for 6000m or less (short-range), and the missiles are for long-range?
Therefore, if you use short-range ACs etc, use rockets. If you are a sniper (artillery etc), use missiles?

Changed my mind: Missiles could be better than rockets always, because then you have the option of staying outside web/scram range.

Surely you mean T2 assault launchers?
Anyway, to the OP: i prefer missiles if you're using ACs. That means you'll be in web-range, though. If you're fine with that, well, they do deliver more DPS.
I often use a rocket launcher on frigs to supplement the damage from the primary weapon systems, and i'm actually thinking of training to be able to use T2 rocket launchers, when I can spare the training time ;P

1. Pick your fights. 2. Standards are really hard to fit on a rifter, I personally prefer rockets here 95% of the cases. 3. Pick your fights. 4. And how do you utilize these skills? In close with your gang and gank? Orbit from afar and deal damage from a safer distance? 5. And you've got fitting for standards?
I'd guess you'll prefer standards, but then again, many prefer rockets.
I'd try it out and play around with it.

Thank you for all your replies!
Normally, I'd be in a big group - 40 ships or more.
I think I'll play around with rockets first, and then wait for my fitting skills to improve to try standards.

Then you'd obviously use rockets.

hmm ok im sure the 200+ was ment with the most expensive fitting :) And yes, if u want to give out hell of money on your kestrel, u can make it :) With DG rocket launchers and DG thorn rockets, rigs and 2x Estamel's BCU u could have 207DPS :)
but even without such extrem setup, with 2xBCU2 and t2 rocket launcher's with rage thorn rockets u can have 160dps what is not bad froma t1 frig :)

Well, my favorite T1 frig setup involves rails and missiles on a tristan. Makes for a decent setup. I don't like close range weapons on frigs, makes you too susceptible to web/nos/smartbomb. ------------- Stop whining.
