I can't decide which one to buy: Playstation 3 or the XBOX360? The PS3 seems to be a better choice considering there aren't many RPGs for 360. Ok, there's Oblivion and surely some other games but RPGs are not abundant in the xbox world. The money isn't an issue HOWEVER it bothers me that they are set so far apart price wise. (I live in Europe so don't know about US prices). Basically the PS3 costs twice as an XBOX360. I really don't want to pay twice as much to get about the same quality in graphics and sound. However there's the RPG availability I've mentioned earlier. So what do you think? What is your opinion?

I would go for the XBox cause it is made my Microsoft. They are very tenatious and very, very rich so are willing to absorb the losses that they are gonna make on the XBox in the future.
Sony have more cash worries so may drop their consoles. Or more likely sell the IP to someone else.
Who would have thunkd that the wittle wii would have smacked botty in such a grand manner...

If you like RPGS, go for the XBOX, you will get the following:
Fallout 3 Lost oddessey (Final Fantasy for adults, from the makers of FF) MASS EFFECT (wtfbbqrpgpwnage) two worlds (oblivion, but kinda crappy) Alan wake (adventure/horror/RPG) Fable 2
Xbox has the best lineup for RPGs. all of the above arent out just YET, but they will be soon. Mass effect has been slated for a 20 nov release. two worlds is already out.
Graphix wise I think the PS3 will overtake the xbox, but in the end it's the games that count. PS3 has undergone some humbling in the past year due to losing so many exclusives. For the next two years the xbox will remain a badass contender, even if only on the strength of Microsoft as its daddy. And the games that are coming for the 360 are ace. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

360. PS3 has less than six months to beef up their must-have / exclusive title library, or they've got a Jaguar or a Dreamcast on their hands.
Both gaming divisions (Micro$oft and SCEA) are hemorrhaging money; it's going to come down to which one has the third party support to push system sales. Sony doesn't have it. Period.

I wouldnt be so fast to judge the PS3 dead just yet. If you compare the 1st gen 360 titles to 1st gen Ps3, the Ps3 comes out a shiny winner. Now of course the ps# has had much more development time on a lot of titles, the Ps3 has some interesting technology and gaming prospects that 360 lacks. Littlebig, Lair (some nice tech in there), Girl of War (aka heavenly sword), etc. These are some flashy titles that are sure to draw 3rd party interest for developing on the Ps3.
All the rumors you hear about programming on ps3 begin difficult are of course also bull, since the same was said about the PS2, and look what happened to that.
ATM 360 is in the lead, with a good base, good games out NOW and a completely MIND BOGGLING line up. Ps3 still might be able to throw out some suprises, since they do seem to have the more original titles and technology upcoming. I'm discounting the WII here as well since I think it will go the way of the DC, or at the most be resigned to the casual market. Though Metroid prime 3 promises good things, it is 1st party and the WII doesn't have anything just yet for hardcore gamers. If you are asking about 360 or Ps3 on an EVE forum, you are at least a little hardcore. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

btw, sony just bought the devs of HAZE, so supposedly Haze will be Ps3 exclusive, as well as Killzone 2 and metal gear 4 (yawn). and of course the Ps3 will get final fantasy 13. They do have some killer apps, but the 360 is coming on strong as well by getting former Ps3 exclusives like:
Devil May Cry 4 Resident Evil 5 Silent hill 5
not to mention their own exclusives:
Halo 3 (iDrool) Lost Oddessy Mass Effect

in a year or so PS3 will be a good buy too, so in the end I would advice to buy the xbox first, and the PS3 later. ---

well, going off UK prices, it aint twice as much. and if you factor in wireless and the ability to play high def films, assuming you have an HDTV, when you add these to the 360 it costs more than the PS3 which has these as standard.
while the games may be very similar now, the PS3 is very different hardware wise and will take a while for devs to get used to fully taking advantage of it. along with games being on bluray discs, well the PS3 has much more long term potential.
having said that, i'm a 360 owner. and its great. though i will be getting a PS3 at some point. as anyone who has the cash should do. maybe not buy them at the same time, but if you can afford to get both, then why cut yourself off from the possibilities either presents.

The Sexbox360 imo. While the ps3 has undeniably better graphics than the box, the box has things such as the overwhelming exclusive games (mass effect, Halo 3 etc.) and in my opinion (having used both online) a far better online gaming scene for it (note gears of war etc.). The games the ps3 has; at the moment at least, are pathetic...wow a dirt track racing game and a game where i supposedly take part in real battles from ancient japan which happens to have a giant enemy crab and a guy who can lift a pillar twice the size of him, to name two. To add to that in my opinion the PS3 doesn't even have many good games in its upcoming....ok theres final fantasy and metal gear (both are becoming very yawn franchises now) which will inevitably boost its popularity but to be fair those don't even compare to the xbox's upcomings. ---

Since I know close to nothing about the games available for either platforms or the current pricing, here is my very uneducated input.
I'd go for the PS3. Why? Semi-open platform with linux-support. Sexier hardware. Better looks. Less noise. Doesn't overheat all the time. Blue-ray player. Upgradeable with any 2.5" sata harddrive or even external usb-drive. And last but not least, it is not Microsoft.

Seriously though, I wouldnt leave he PS3 out in the dust just yet. Especially if you cannot have XboxLive access where you live (technical reasons such as lag, etc), the 360 loses 40% of it's functionality right there.
Also, RRoD. (I've done on-call technical support (outsourcing ftw?) for the 360 and I get these kinds of calls way more than I'd like to admit)
Either way, best wait and see after the holiday season, and grab one or the other during the after-holiday cleanout sale -

Ive been anti-console pro-pc.
But the past two-years my perception of the pc has changed. I now consider it a needy girlfriend which means &ú*$ that.
The past two weeks Ive purchased a Xbox 360 elite, soley based on playing Bioshock on my plasma in hi-def, with my sound-system going OTT. So far i've been impressed.
Im looking foward to the upcoming offerings the Xbox has instore like GTA IV and such.
But saying that I could get a PS3 aswell.

I own an XBOX 360, and my GF's Brother has a PS3. He's having issues deciding what game to spend out on next as they all seem to be mediocre atm. I'm looking at getting Bioshock on Thursday (Although I may get it for PC due to the fact that PC games cost less than console games)

Mass Effect will be released on the PC some time after, and it will be better than the X360 version (ala Fable and Jade Empire for the original XBox). Same goes for virtually every game released for the XBox.
However, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy will never be released for the PC, to name a few. Unlike Microsoft, Sony understands the concept of exclusivity.
Finally: Halo 3 will be a load of horse droppings, especially if Halo 2 is anything to go by. What i've seen so far doesn't even reach games like Mass Effect or Unreal Tournament 3 in terms of graphics, and it will only be a cheap rehash of the first Halo's gameplay. You will still get auto-aim to help you aswell, which is something i simply cannot live with in a shooter - But that's personal i guess.
Also, Oblivion runs on both X360 and PS3, but it runs a lot better on the PS3...
Not to mention MGS4.
X360 has some good RPG's coming, but they're not exclusive to the platform. Traditionally you'll get more RPG's on the PS3, although you'll have to look to Japanese made games most of the time. Not that that is a bad thing, of course :)
My advice: Wait a little bit. New PS3's will be coming soon, followed by a pricedrop, putting both consoles closer together. A new wave of PS3 games should have been released by that time aswell.
Why do i prefer the PS3? I'm a Tekken and Gran Turismo fanboy. Just to get that out of the way :)

Xbox 360 simply for the sheer amount of games you can buy. As you said money is no issue so go buy a 360 and a whole bunch of games for the price of a PS3. Then...if the PS3 looks interesting in 6 months get it then!

True but I think this will take as long as the Halos did, if not longer, due to the fact that its story is planned as a Trilogy and I imagine most people cant wait that long (like myself). If it really is as good as it looks nothing stopping people getting the PC version later on, but with expansions due to be released over XBOX live periodically 360 players will have a big headstart and it seems that the days of added content on the PC that you wont see on modern console games have gone (like in the original release of fable), see Oblivion, it was faster and easier to just get the expansions through LIVE...and with fewer headaches it seems.

Oblivion doesn't need the DLC's. I've got them here and i'm not installing them - Especially the wizard's tower is just unbalanced, and knights of the nine kills npc's. And, afaik, you can;t get shivering isles for the 360 yet.
The 360 has got 2 thing going for it. First, live. But if you're not going to hunt achievement points or buy a lot of extra stuff from marketplace, you're left with the multiplayer. And the PS3 also offers multiplayer, just not through that unified interface.
Second, it's got Halo 3. Which is a terrible game by any account... Unfortunately it's release got pushed forward to make sure it doesn't lose people to Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3, which are simply better games, and will be released just a month or 2 after Halo 3.
Halo 3 is for people who have never played Quake 3 or UT, that's all there is to it. There is a reason why you won;t find people playing Halo 1 or 2 multiplayer on PC, and still there are a lot of Q3 and UT servers online - games that are years older than the first Halo!
Halo is a hype, and a bad one at that. Nothing else to it - It should be absolutely *no* reason to buy a 360.

A swing and a miss. A "I just hit the guy on third with my bat" level miss. First off, Halo 2 was horse crap. I have an account on www.halo2sucks.com to back up my opinion here. I really didn't care at all about H3. Then I got a chance to play it.
After just a few minutes, I said something along the lines of "Holy ****, this is good." Auto-aim? Gone. I made this discovery with the battle rifle, when I realised that that guy over there didn't have an overshield, I was missing. Weapons rebalanced, there are no power weapons in my opinion anymore. The sniper? Most people cant shoot. Rocket launcher? It does what it is supposed to do, anti-vehicle. Not anti-infantry. Spartan Laser? There's a nice red laser beam coming out the front that tells you how long until it fires ,and where. Easy to avoid. Gatling gun? Can't turn worth a crap and run at pratically half-speed. Oh yeah, grenades are useful again. Not everyone is dual-wielding, so people actually throw them. That's nice. Plus, being able to save videos of multiplayer matches is nice. And the graphics you mentioned...Bungie said from the getgo that they wouldn't work too hard on the graphics, so no big suprise there.
That, and the VIP gametype owns.
Well, it seems this post basically turned into a Halo 3 review, heh. Oh yeah, have a Marine.

Shivering Isles was avaliable for download on the 360 before it was released for PC. Still a good game on both platforms but yea, was playing before the PC people were.
I love my PC and I am a HUGE UT fan, never got into the whole quake thing (apart from 2 which I really enjoyed). My PC collection far outstretches that of my 360 one but I have been collecting them for about 10 years more
The rest is all opinion so I cant really argue and your entitled! I wouldn't go and bash Halo so quickly though. The first one was very good, the 2nd a bit short, and as far as people playing it compared to UT you simply have to look. Halo 1 and 2 have been played on live since launch and has a massive fan base. Take Red Vs Blue for example (machinanima for Halo).
I'm genuinely looking forward to Halo 3 but with the same trepidation that I'm looking forward to crysis and UT3. They already have so much hype that it would be hard for any game to live up to. Have them all on pre-order though, along with about 4 other games so should be a good 6 months coming up for all gamers, at last
I personally just see consoles as a way of getting access to a larger base games library. The fact is a lot of games will never see the PC, which is a shame because if I had my way they would all be on PC, and 360, for the moment, has the best library. If the OP wants to do the same then, for now at least, 360 is the better choice.

1, no they wont be better cause you need a $4000 machine to run them at the same resolution with all the effects on, 6 MONTHS AFTER THE GAME IS RELEASED ON 360 2, funny how GT and FF are the ones you are quoting. MGS4 might be coming to 360, if the current rumors are anything to go by, Sony has already lost assassins creed, devil may cry, silent hill, resident evil etc. Sony understands the concept, but cannot keep it. The exclusive is a fast dying breed, since with the enormous game devlopment budgets giving out an exclusive is killing half your revenue. 3, your comments on Halo3 are inane, and stupid. Halo is the single best console shooter there is, period. The best multiplayer, the best single player. Halo 3 will have 4 player co-op, an original feature, forge: a totally unseen feature in console gaming. A slew of new weapons, vehicles and gameplay mechanics, rivalling any sequel I've seen. Unreal tournament? oh come ON. 4, Oblivion runs better because it came out A YEAR LATER. 5. Mass effect is exclusive, Lost Oddessy is exclusive, Blue Dragon is exclusive, Alan wake will be Exclusive. Condemned 2? The fact that a game might come out a year later on another console is irrelevant.

Not really. Gears of War was exclusive, so were a slew of other games - And look where they are now (or coming to).
The fact that they will come out on another console or the PC a year later means that you can wait and get the game on your platform of preference. No one is forcing me, you or anyone else to buy a 360 to play Mass Effect on, and even though i *really* want to play that game i can wait untill it's released for the PC.

Ahhh that explains it, you are an idiot
1) MS bogged Halo 2 down for the PC by forcing it to use DX10, even though it doesn't actually use DX10 features... Not to mention that Vista is the sole reason for Halo 2 needing 2GB of ram and an uber cpu to run smoothly. Halo 2 will run as smooth as silk on 4 year old pc's if someone hacks out the 'vista only' bits.
2) I most certainly had the pleasure of comparing halo 1 on xbox and pc... And the pc version was by far superior, even on budget pc's. The game doesn't require a lot of hardware to run at a smooth 60+ fps.
I also had the pleasure of comparing both Fable versions. The comparison is a joke, very much in favor of the PC version.
3) Gran Turismo 4 is still competitive with stuff like PGR and Forza, even though it's a PS2 game. Tekken (or even Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter) are far superior games to Dead or Alive, that's a simple fact (look up the reviews).

why CHOOSE to play a game a year later than the rest of the world? would you choose to play revelations 3 a yaer later if you could play it on a PS3, for instance... if a game is good I want to play it sooner rather than later.
oh, and virtua fighter will be on the 360, not that it matters because beat em ups are soooooo 90s.
check out metacritic, a site that pools ALL ratings: the best tekken on PS2 got 88, the best DOA on xbox got 87, what a huuuuuge difference.
also you blatantly rule that all PC versions are better; yet fail to tell us why. PC gaming is inherently more expensive than console gaming and these days many console games are out years in front of PC games: that might not matter to you, but it does to a multitude of others.
Of course PC games get higher resolutions and more textures, but they cost a hell of a lot more to run. for instance; bioshock on the PC is a mother to run, but for 300 bucks I can play it on a 360.
Graphix dont make a game; check out the reviews for Lair if you think im ****ting you. for that matter check out eve... its graphix are ancient, but we love it because the art direction is good. WoWs graphix are mediocre at best, but the art direction is awesome so you forget about it. True excellence in games is not defined by polygon count ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

Originally by: Reiisha Mass Effect will be released on the PC some time after, and it will be better than the X360 version (ala Fable and Jade Empire for the original XBox). Same goes for virtually every game released for the XBox.
I don't rate the UT franchise very highly really. The first was a masterpiece and I played it until my hands bled. The second one, worse gameplay, poorer design aesthetic (despite better graphics). With subsequent sequels nothing has really evolved all that much. The only difference to me is a LOT more competition facing it on the FPS market.

The PS3 price includes the Blue-Ray high definition dvd player. Personally, I'd rather buy my choice of high definition (blue ray or the HD DVD players) separately.
I have seen alot of posts about how bad Halo 2 wa sin this thread. That's non-sense. Halo 2 was a major advance over Halo and that all that's needed. People that fall for the hype of any game, expect the game to be next-gen. But what remaions is still one of the largest multi-player games, the most customizeable and one of the most fun multiplayer games. It doesn;'t matter how many times you play Team Rocketball - its still fun.
I would try to find if there are any upcoming games that you want to buy that are console specific. And I would not expect too much of a difference between PC and Xbox360 versions. The Xbox360 was designed specifically to use directx so that porting games would be easier to either platform. The game makers have to do significantly less to make pc or xbox360 version.
The Xbox360 has alot of exclusive racing titles also. As for the Xbox heating up - in a month or so new ones with better chips should be shipping out that are much cooler.

And halo2 has matchmaking, which is awesome. No ther game even comes close to that. Getting a game going in gears of war is HORROR. And Halo? Halo both looks better and plays better on an old xbox than a pc. And 'hacking' isnt really a great argument you know.

Gran Turismo is crap compared to MSR. Tekken is rubbish, its block punch block punch, virtua fighter was ace, but thats originally an arcade game so it could have been released on either consoles.

That's the reason they are still making PS2's, where the DC has gone out of production a year or 2 after it's release?

I personaly went for the XBOX 360.....it has a better range of games plus i refuse to pay Ç600 for a PS3...thats way way overpriced especialy as the XBOX 360 is just as good and far cheaper....i just think sony are working the "ITS NEW AND SHINEY" angle to get more money out of us all.

It makes little financial sense right now and the forseeable future for a developer to make a game that's PS3 exclusive. You won't be missing out on too much with an Xbox.
But I'm a PC/Wii guy. I ain't touching a game that MICROSOFT tells me I can't use a mouse/keyboard when they're actually releasing PC games to begin with (Gears of War = UT3 engine), and even better, when they've already put USB ports on the machine! Madness!
Yes PC route costs way more, but it keeps the online communities more mature and more skilled. It's the same thing as the fact that most of us wouldn't play WoW if were 12 dollars a year.

9 Million play WoW. Less than .3 Million play EVE. Popularity doesn't matter, Dreamcast has as many extremely good games as other consoles. And the kicker is, they were all fairly/extremely innovative.
Which of these AAA Dreamcast originals lived on to other platforms: Soul Calibur, Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Metropolitan Street Racer, Virtua Tennis? All of them.
