A lot of people look to them for a new place to start Eve - though the uni has some experience also. They do a good service to the community, and any advice they can give to new players to promote a life of PvP is a good thing. Trust me, they swarm well

Didn't the Ivy League have a war with a couple 0.0 alliances recently? How did that turn out?
If you want PvP lessons, you might want to try Agony Unleashed instead. But I hear Eve University is still good.

I've heard good and bad about them, more bad than good though.
Eve Uni is nice but I know a few people who have been turned away (low sec status)
I run a similar program, I'd imagine, as I've never joined in their reindeer games. My corp teaches PvP from solo to small gang ops, as well as Industry aspects, and of course, the PVE side of things.
All in all, 1 person can put out some bad press and all of a sudden, reputation goes downhill.

Its not like they are turning out a steady flow of Ace pilots but they do a good service for eve IMO
I haven't seen their corporate agenda but its probably not just PvP or how to carebear

p.s. you wouldn't be the first to try to "teach" them how to PvP

What usually happens when people post chatlogs is that they're the one in the chat who's the idiot. I don't think this one disappoints.

somebody should probably go tell USS OMAHA that although Darwin's theory did state that individuals that produce more viable offspring will do better than others, he made no mention of the morality behind competition nor that it was in everyone's best interests to actively injure other individuals, nor that one was "weak" or "strong" based on arbitrary value systems
and also that altruism is not, in fact, counterproductive to survival |

Agree. Interesting point. If it was counterproductive to survival in general, it wouldn't have survived a few thousand years as a meme. I fully agree with you there. ( USS OMAHA has a point though. He does what he thinks is best for his pvp alliance in this game. )

Second of all you really need to do some background researching before you flame Ivy for pvp. We have a very Excellent pvp wing at the Uni and most of the instructors have been through quite alot of big wars with big names (including MC, UDIE, IVC, RK, Smash, CI and many more). All of them have told us we fight better then most 0,0 corps do. So the next time you decide to Flame on the big boards about a well established name like Eve University dont for your own sake.

Um, regularly Ivy League are blobbing it up in BWF teaching people PvP. Experience is probably the best way to do that. But 'war' ? We have never been involved in anything that could be considered a war with Ivy League... A few skirmishes, some PvP, but not a war.

I would advise you declare war on them after the tournament is finished, they are more willing to learn from their mistakes than most people, as they have everything to gain and little to loose by being involved in wars.
However i would also like to point that EvE is not 100% of the time ship fights and ganks; there is also mission running, manufacturing, trade, mining, exploration and every other aspect that makes this game as good. Of course someone has to teach those too, don't you think .
I was a student, then an instructor, and then a director in one of the "carebear" divisions, but in every war i experienced, we all worked together using what we had at our disposal and nothing more than wits and spirit. In my time as a e-uni member i was taught respect for fights, no smacking, and never understimate your enemy.
So, why would you like want to slander their name?

IVY/E-UNI is doing a whole lot of good in eve. While I'm sure there are better ways to learn how to PvP and so on, not all of them are readily accessable for a one or two week old character. E-UNI does teach those things - to those who ask for it - and regardless of the quality of the education, it's a whole lot better than what many other alliances can or will offer.
I myself started out as an E-UNI student. During my time there, I learned about not only PvP basics, but also a few quite mean tricks that I still use to my advantage. All in all, they are a top quality outfit.

The educational process is a two way street, we do our best to teach pvp, amongst many other things. It's up to the student to take advantage of the classes, forums and q&a though.
There's always room for improvement though so if you have genuine good ideas how to improve the service we offer just evemail one of the univerity directors and we will consider your ideas.
And FYI we find ourselves at war a lot more often then we would like. Once in a while a war can be helpful but because of the recruitment stop during wartime it's usually not. At the moment we're at war with MD-K, for their entertainment apparently

You don't need a forum thread to go newb bashing. Good luck with your "holy" crusade ... -------------------------------------------- The most common phrase on the Eve-O forum of late is: "Oh the irony". It is usually being used to describe hypocrisy which is in itself, ironic.

Trash talk? All I see is 2 of our big shots declining a NAP with Ivy League and explaining the reasons for that decline.
The spy apparently wants to hurt Ivy League... or more likely, he is hoping that this will hurt the public opinion of Fatal Alliance because there is a lot of sentiment in the community for Ivy League.
