I've been reading this forum for a while and im getting very tired of the constant frowning upon "carebears" miners builders etc and equally Tired of the constant personal attacks of peeps who has decided to play this game as Pirates.
Some days ago I took my niece to a playground where lots of kiddies were playing having fun. In the middle there was this huge sandbox where a lot of kiddies had equipped themselves with coloured platic shovels. Some kids sat for themselves or in small groups building castles -others where using the shovels as guns and rifles playing soldiers and robbers.
This struck me to be very similiar to what is going on in EVE.
I wanna ask you guys a couple of questions :
Are all the kiddies that plays Robbers and soldiers all phychos ?
Are the Kiddies that prefer to build castles in any way inferior to those who wants to play war ?
What would you call a kid or a group of kids that use their plastic shovels to smash the castles that others kids have built ?
OH and dont give that nonsense : oh but they entered the sandbox so they knew what could happen to their castles.
Well -I'm off to the EVE-sandbox - Just got a new fancy Showel- Hope to see you there.

No. Theyre having fun roleplaying. and i bet the kids who were being robbed, werent complaining about it. Take note carebears.

hes a griefer because he has done it for 0 reason or purpose.
I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

As for 'griefing' because it serves no purpose. Everything is done for a reason. EVERYTHING. Just because the reason behind it is socially unacceptable or impossible to fathom, doesn't mean the reasons not there.
In the case given, I'd say the likely motive is to make them feel big (animal instict of pack animals trying to assert dominance and attain alpha status).
It works in EVE too.

I think u got it wrong, u see its not us that atack(on the forums)the carebears, its the other way around.
Why dont u actually look at the forums alittle more and tell me which are more , posts made by pirates about carebears or the other way around??

Never liked the carebear thingie first time I read it Carabear and thought it might relate to the caribbian sea witch lead to sunny beaches where you lay all day not worrying about anything.
Sandbox theory, we have a sandbox where the castles are safe it's called empire space we also have special grounds for those bullies, it's called below 0.4
This is more of a joke than my actual view of things

AAhh, but to take the analogy further, the parents watching their kids are the ones that need to step in and make sure that the kids don't end up beating the crap out of each other - thus ruining the nice little day out for everyone involved.

the thing with the guy smashing down other kids' sandcastles, is that without asking him, you'll never know why he did it. Maybe his parents died, and he needs to take his rage on something. Maybe he is mentally deficient, and doesn't really know what he is doing. Maybe some other kid that knows, and doesn't like the sandcastle-builders may have paid 'smashy-kid' a bag of lemon sherbets to do it.
So then the smasher moves from being the griefer, to being the tool. The real griefer is sitting under the slide writing dirty words on the bench, and paying kids off with sherbets.
Some guy said something about him being killed on video. That wasn't griefing. That had a purpose: Him dying. On video. That would be purpose enough in my book.
So as a closing statement: Don't assume someone is doing something for no reason.

Griefing imho. You can't get a better example of it than that.

Eve isn't a sandbox. It's a hill. We play King of the Hill.
Violence is a method to be 'The King'. But it's only 1 method out of many. What disgusts me is that the people that are whining about 'morality' and 'griefing' seem incapable of using any other method but whining to attempt to be 'The King'.
There are people that don't mine, don't pirate and don't hunt NPCs yet are closer to the top of the hill than many of the so called 'griefers'.

I wasn't telling you what happened to you, it was an analogy. Don't take things so literally.
NPC gate pirates would do the same thing to you, and you would expect them to try, and for what reason? To keep you out of their space. So you have to expect pirates to rob you, or worse.
And the reason you died is because someone probably wanted to see* what you were carrying. That counts as a valid reason in my book.

(Oh, you mentioned some guy filmed a podding and that was a valid reason for podding someone, just to film it! It was me who was podded, hence my reply)
Err, whatever happened to cargo scanners? I've never been scanned EVER! And if that were the case, why was my pod also destroyed (no chat in local). And why was the whole thing being filmed? A punisher blowing up? Hardly the most exciting event in the history of video-gaming!

You've made yourself a target with the way you express your opinions and beliefs on these forums. I'm certain that most pirates that read these forums are likely to blow holes through your ship, your pod and your cloning station if possible.

Thats fine skillz. I mean thats pirating! It all depends on whether you ask for a ransom or toll I guess. But one thing that confuses me is that pirates always say they need to cap your ship to see what cargo you have, when if I'm webbed and jammed they could just scan it with a err, cargo scanner. Maybe I'm being simplistic, I dunno.

No, I'm not. You're not some newbie fresh on the 3 day trial. You were making it quite well known what you felt about Pkers and pirates in general for quite some time.
I speak to a fair number of pirates on occasion. I've sold battleships to several, including the one that podded me. Except for a people that have decided to be real asses about things, most the conversations are quite normal "Hey, whazzup?" stuff. But when the conversation ends, I don't kid myself that if I run into drunkenmaster or *****Cat at a gate, they're going to shoot me.
But it's nothing personal and I don't take it that way. You make it personal by your postings. And you send a message to every future pirate that says "Shoot me!".

If you ask PC pirates before comming to the gate about a toll. If any of the well established pirate/griefer corps agrees, almost everyone will honor that agreement.
What not to do:
Catch a PC pirate group without 5 webifiers, 5 warp scramblers at least 1 target jammer and not in 0.0 non-imperial.
If you think that extorting isk from people is easy, you should try it yourself.
And the situation with sentry guns everywhere, 2 microwarpdrives (total bs CCP) and 5 to 6 warp core stabilizers is in itself a function of a lot of carebear whining.
Just face it, most PC pirates are better players than newbies and mining specialists. We'll always find ways to kill you. The only remedy is to learn the game.
