ok well maybe more,
a friend and i both played eve, same internet connection, roughly the same distance from the transmitter did bandwith tests, about 10bps difference, one of use used a really bad comp (about 210 mb of ram using the shared chip for eve, unfortunately thats my comp my parents think is great and got for free. anyway) and his home built one-intel core2 duo e6300 and 2gb of ram dual radeon 512 mb graphics cards etc, we got the same ship, some guns and equipment, no implants or jump clones (not sure if that would affect it anyway?) and we went to the same place and did some ratting, as a result i got more lag, way more. therefore as a conclusion, people who go on wailing about lag you have now 3 options
1) get a better intenet connection 2) upgrade your computer 3) scrap your comp and get a better one, if this is wat your gonna do then dont buy of dell or likewise as if they go wrong it costs a s******* to fix so go somewhere like pcspecialists (if your in the uk anyway) just search it on google it comes up with top spec computers at the top
or otherwise just build your own, its not very hard and ther are plenty of online manuals, with buying guides as well, again just google it
hope this helped

Sometimes servers get overloaded and that causes lag. But unfortunately its mostly due to what you stated above.

Buying a new computer or upgrading you internet connection, those are both about as far from an "easy" solution as you can get. Apart from being about the two most obvious ways of improving performance they are probably the two hardest to actually accomplish.
Better hardware improving game performance? No **** Sherlock.

actually...its very easy, you can cancel your contract or whatever with y0out current isp (or some require that it runs out) and create a new one, or if you dont know how to upgrade/build a comp yourself, hire a specialist to help

or not. Example situation: 60 people, internet cafe, same connection same computers, and as it happened also same solar system. Some lagged, some didn't.
So, upgrading computer and connection can help, but some lag appears to be entirly random. |

Edited by: SublightNova on 06/09/2007 18:25:23 Not trying to be rude here but:
You obviously have absolutely no idea what you are talking about...
You think a brand new quad core system with 4 gig and an evga 8800 GTX ACS3 would still need an upgrade?
LOL... My connection is the best there is to buy here and gives me absolutely no problems with any other application.
Please do some research or studying before making strange statements like that. Maybe in a few years, after maybe working for a bit in the real world you will know there are factors and elements at work outside of your parent's living space.
Lag in EVE is 95% server related.

Easier method than those stated by OP.
Buy property in Iceland near CCP. Build house, move. Run long cable, plug directly into eve server.

yes, if you only have 210mb of ram available you are not going to be able to do much of anything in the modern gaming world. More memory should do wonders by eliminating a whole bunch of memory page swapping to disk.
