Imagine a forum, filled with informative and constructive posts. Where the tone is civil, and posts are answered by others who actually read your post before they hit reply. (Birds go crazy, sound of a shotgun, heavy metal music) Now, to the reality. Trolls. Morons. ****s. by the hundreds. Perfectly good posts getting slaughtered by the dozen. Dumbness violences brains. Innocent letters are being abused in ways too terrible to describe. Healthy braincells end themselves over the misery they have to witness. The occational pearl of wisdom, covered so deep in muck you have to wear a Mental biohazard suit to get close to them. Here enters the savior: The Block Button.** (pop sounds all over the place, the Havy metal fades out slowly) We need a block button now. We allready have it for the ingame chat, and its a beautifull thing. Add one to the forums. It cant be too hard. Save the forums. Save the World.

If you were to block everyone who flames you wouldnt be able to see any replies to any posts after a while: simple fact is that everyone, once in a while, posts a massive flamer on someone else. Forum posting is emotion, logic, sanity, insanity, violence, love, romance, ALL ROLLED INTO ONE. no amount of blocking will change that. Its like profanity filters. I might not be able to say ** but I sure as hell can post stuff that can hurt people more than any profane word ever could..... how would your block work though? you see a reply you dont like, hit block, and you never again see a post/thread by that person? It could be a simple one shot block button. And if you are aware of that, you can just use it if you come accros names allready familiar to you for their irrelevant posts. Or it can be a point thing. Push once, -1 point. and a new setting in your forum settings, to set the threshold under which posts are not shown to you anymore. Furthermore, IF some troll should say something worthwhile, it will probably get quoted, and you'll see it then. But i think such a thing wont happen very often. And you could make it in a way that posts dont just vanish, but the forum shows you a line saying (blocked) at which you can click to see it, even if its under your block threshold.

The point is about the ABILITY to block the exclamation mark alts, the trial accounts and the one-man alt corp dudes who ruin the fun for everyone right now in the tournament and the CAOD forums. Would be nice to block everyone who is trolling and spewing accusations and innuendo and then evade the in-game consequences by hiding behind an alt. CCP has its hands full right now. I think some forum upgrade is in the worx, as is the UI update, and the sound update, and the desynch issue, and ambulation, and a new events team, and an independant comittee, and...... you get the picture. Wait, do you want block ability or /. karma? Either way I think it would be easier to get the forums to work ingame than to implement either of those two suggestions. And we all know how long we have been waiting for ingame eve-online forums... Im not sure I want to see karma whoring on eve-online forums Besides, not only is eve-online not a happy, happy, fluffy world, neither are the eve-online forums -- Selling apples, 1 signature each. And i'm aware that eve is not a happy fluffy worls, but with the same argumentation you could remove the /block from ingame chat, and i'm prety sure you dont want that. And a Slashdot Karma thing would be awsome to have here. But thats a lot more complicated to implement than a simple Block/threshold thingy.

Yes, i know, but it limits you to using Firefox, and you have to carry your filterlist around if you use the forums from diffrent PCs.

Also, while you're at improving the forums, fix that bug where when you place an smiley, the cursor jumps back before the smiley. Really annoying.
