Hi there,
I know that, at least in a small degree, revelations III will allow you to walk around your ship. Do you think it will be like SWG where you have free regn to wander around? I love how that works.. I had the big mining ship YT-8000 or something and it was huge!!!. I would be really nice if it could work that way...

It may be possible. However, ships in EVE are really, really, stupidly, massively big, so it's unlikely we'll be able to walk around all of the ship. And we'll also probably only be able to walk around whilst docked. Wouldn't really make sense otherwise.

Certainly not when in space, you're stuck in an egg of course.
They hinted in one of the interviews that it might happen when docked, but I don't think you'd get a free reign, probably you'd just be able to walk into vital areas if it's implemented, as Ases said, these ships really are stupidly big. If you had free walking reign, I'd feel sorry for capital ship pilots, they'd probably get lost wandering the halls of their own ships.

how many times have the devs stated this:
AMBULATION WILL NOT BE IN REV 3!....LATE 2008
But on a related note: Exactly what useful purpose will this serve? "Ohhh look im walking around"
I'd prefer they fix the rest of the broken crap before they work on a useless feature. ________________________________ High Sec PvP

I just hope the ships are not designed like star trek ships. Only two toilets on the whole friking thing and both are on the bridge. It makes a long walk from engineering and there must be some trafic on the bridge... ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

interesting concept, but think about this, they couldent impliment that in a patch, they would require you to download a new client, which is more then likly going to be huge with those features. and anyways, as stated earlier, some of the ships in eve are massive, anything above a cruser has 100+ crew members apparently. imagine a battleship, carrier, or a dreadnaught. let alone a cap ship like a mothership or titan. they are thinking about implimenting walking in stations though, should be interesting.

It serves many purposes, and one of the key reasons it's coming is...*drumroll*...it doesn't take away time from your precious drone fix.
Like i stated on another thread(started by yours truly), CCP as a company is not a cake you can divide accordingly. You can't say "Ok, 50% on drone fixing, 30% there and the rest get beer!"
No, you got departments, people working on different things, people having their own code szegments etc etc...loads of stuff.
So ambulation, takes nothing away from fixing the other problems, and if these bring more problems, they have their own team to fix those problems(the same who make it), without, agian, taking away your precious fixing time
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

I'm not too fussed with ambulation either -- I think it will just be pretty eye candy that won't add much to my game play. However, I suspect that this eye candy will attract more players to the game, which will in turn increase revenues which will allow for more powerful servers and larger development teams which will add more to my playing experience. As such, I'm kind of 'pro' ambulation.

Damn I hate when people go all like "Ambulation is useless, I don't want it I want this instead."
Well guess what. I do want it. Other people do want it. You can have your thing too, so don't try to take away something that other people want, just because you can't find a use for it.

Since ambulation is going to be pretty much totally separate from the current space game, any bugs introduced will be totally avoidable by simply not using it.
The beauty of the concept, from what I've seen so far, is that it's a parallel system independent of the current EVE system. You dock and you can get out of your ship, but if you don't you get everything EVE has right now.
For those who don't like the new out of pod stuff, they don't have to get out of their pod.
Actually, something I find potentially quite interesting is that since these systems are effectively separate, one could be down while the other remains functional. So if ambulation bugs cause a crash, maybe you just find yourself back in the station with a message saying the concourse was closed for cleaning or something.
Also, maybe on patch day we can log in and rabble in the station while we wait for CONCORD to clear the docking rings. ;)

I have certain family members that won't play Eve until ambulation is active. This severely limits my Eve time. There are a lot of people out there that like to stop and smell the roses, as it were, and want to feel like they're more than just their ship. Being able to see your avatar actually interacting with other avatars, walking, sitting, etc, is a huge plus for a lot of people.

Haha I love the clueless morons "OMG LIEK FIX TEH GAMEZR BEFORE WALKING "
This was getting coded anyway even if eve was never to see it (as part of the white wolf thing). Would you rather none of that time effected eve? or that eve got something out of the time invested on this project?

role players will love it.
average people will love it, new people brought to the game because of it will love it.
I will love it because i can go play cards while a skill finishes training or play when i do not feel like grinding lp, roids or whatever. i will also like seeing my ships in dry dock and just wandering around looking at stuff.
"Hardcore" players seem to mostly not like it.
war dec Corps in empire will hate it because now their targets can sit in the casino or bar and socialize or might even make isk at the casino instead of just sitting in their hangers bored for hours on end waiting for numbers to be on their side and loosing isk constantly.
New opportunities to war dec tho, someone cleans out your wallet in poker and war dec them. :)
Far as walking around in your ship all the time, it does not fit into the current system since you fly your ship in your pod and interact through your pod less they change that basic mechanic to some new thing entirely it just does not fit.
Nevermind that your are wandering round your ship flying and you get locked and blown up since you were too busy staring a the interior of your ship rather than flying it.

Walking around in my ship... In my case, it had better be a capital with a clone bay. I just know that I'd be wandering into bad areas with no Mr. Scott to tell me "don't touch that!"

is it possible for CCP to make this optional download content?
I've seen it before in other games where content actually becomes optional, if you don't download it and add/patch it on to your client you just can't use it.
I think it would solve all the "we don't want it" "We do want it"
personally I'm a little in favor just to see what they do with it and see the possible future of CCP/White Wolf games

Yes it is going to be optional.. if you don't want to walk about the station you do not have to leave your ship. Just like if I do not want to walk outside.. I can stay indoors and play eve all day.

Ok, Geek out time...
There were plenty of toilet facilities on ALL the Star Trek ships. There were toilet and bathing facilities in every cabin, and "public" facilities regularly placed around the ship. The "public" facilities are never shown in any of the series, but are shown on many of the ship diagrams and in the books. The private cabin facilities are seen in MANY of the Star Trek episodes on ALL the series, including the original. Not sure where you got the idea that there were only two bathrooms.
Personally, I can't count the number of times I saw Kirk / Picard / Sisko / Janeway / Archer / Random major cast member head into the small room off their cabin, have a SINK slide out of the wall, wash their hands or face, grab a towel from a nearby wall-mounted drawer, and dry off. I'd imagine that the toilet was also a slide-out affair as well, so as to avoid showing a toilet on primetime T.V.

In stations? Cool, you could 'walk' to the repair bay or 'walk' to the market, then to areas in the market like ship dealer, etc. I see a good implimentation of it if they do that, but as said, the code for that would be more than just a patch to download.
Would like to see something like that though.
