Just a sec...need to put the post up too...
So, gonna start playing WoW. *puts on more flamegear*
This is not a troll post. Not a "ccp sucks" post. Not a whine post.
This is a simple fact of life post that will probably first be met by many many flames, before realising i have a point in all this.
The reason why is simple, WoW is fun, it's a pasttime, it's a hobby. EVE is not, so much fun. It's fun, it's great, it's stupendously magnificent! But WoW has that, game like fun on a MMO.
Now why is this a GOOD thing to EVE? Here's the reason and one that should maybe be considered by others aswell.
When i JUST play EVE, i get bored of it at times, and when you get bored of EVE, it's dangerous. You go on months of vacations at times. You jsut can't bare to look at another ship/mission/roid again for ages.
But when you play another MMO(and WoW is a good MMO, considering the alternatives), you don't get bored so easily and can allocate, again, more time into EVE aswell.
So the point of post?
Well, nothing much really, just that people shouldn't bash other MMOs that much, all the time, and be so "singular"(hihi) in their views. Expand, find a "hobby" game out of your "work" EVE gaming an you just might find EVE mroe enjoyable too
*puts shields to maximum, resistance plates on f(h)ull and napalm resistant undies as suggested*
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

I see your point. I know a great deal many Eve players who have other games going. It's not a sin to admit it although WoW does have a certain stigma about it.
I think the flames would begin if you said "I'm quitting Eve for WoW" - but I'm not sure that is what you're saying.
I don't think it's a p***ing contest between the two as they are gulfs apart, (my uninformed opinion by the way, never played WoW as Elves etc don't really interest me and I've heard it wears thin after a while).
For the record, I've played BF2142 as my "hobby game" - to use your terminology. Would be interesting to know what others play to any degree.
Won't leave Eve though, too much time invested in it for starters!

Well Sheriff, I play both EVE and WOW and I love them both, they are highly addictive andI do not get bored, my rl does suck a bit, but I work round it all. It's all down to personal choice and if you feel happy playing wow then go for it. I enjoy wow for its light hearted side, eve needs a lot of patience and dedication as it is a long term investment, I love eve for its markets and industry.

i think i get what you are saying
when you play one game the chances of getting a life and getting out of your chair - not necessarily in that order - are high
but when you play a new game or an old game you have not played in a long time whenever you arent completely absorbed in your current game the chances of getting a life are killed all while you notice all the downfalls of the other game and get bored of its benefits - bringing you back to eve

I find that rotating my MMOs works for me. It stops me getting jaded. And reading the forums of other games makes me smile. Like the posts from the early beta players lamenting how much the game sucks now (about a game that is still in beta). And every forum has posts saying that the devs are the best ever with great communication. And every forum has posts saying the devs suk and never listen to the playerbase.
Currently I'm playing Dungeon Runners, Eve and Tabula Rasa.

Eve is a slow game. It rarely grants instant gratification, and as such is not suited for all needs:) Other MMOs aim for other goals.
I think I'm gonna try the conan MMO when it comes out and the Warhammer MMO. Both seem quite promising.

have fun
I can honestly say that I enjoyed WoW when I used to play. but I didnt find the end game mega grind and long dungeon crawls enjoyable, nor did I really have the time.
I liked the world, I enjoyed exploring etc...
I think the main reason WoW gets so many haters is because the playerbase is generally younger and less mature, so you get the l33t sprouting uber competitive kiddies, who are annoying as hell . but this is easily avoided if you join a RPPVP server, (but dont actually RP apart from out of courtesy to those who do) as the people are generally a bit kinder and less annoying there.

Ive played wow before. After a while I just got tired of the constant grind of killing things to get gold and xp. It took up a lot of my time, which I didnt have when college starts. Eve on the other hand is a game that I can train skills and get something accomplished when im busy. Both games has its benefits. The pve side of wow is a little better. (not doing the same missions over and over). but frankly, the pvp in wow sucks. Its not much different than pve. When you kill someone you know they arnt really loseing anything, but in eve, when you kill someone, you know they feel the pain Eve lets me release some frustration on other people :). But this is my own personal opinion and if you want to play wow instead of eve, more power to you. I'll stick with eve.

TBH I dont know if that holds true anymore considering the state of the CAOD board, honestly its like kindergarden in there 90% of the time.
I play wow as well as eve and tbh there was a time i felt eve had a more mature player base and that wow was full of l33t speaking people but times have changed

After being coaxed by my friends I reactivated my WoW account last night. Moved 4 characters to the new server they are playing on (100$ US)
Loaded my first char in Shathrah city. I would say that it took about 20 seconds before I realized what a mistake that was.
They asked me "What do you want to do?". I really did not want to do anything, nada, ziltch.
The game is so devoid of anything interesting. The only redeaming factor for me is playing with my friends. But even that is not enough.

Over 3 and a half years i've chalked up the odd break from EVE myself. Everytime I get the urge to go hunting some ****** down in real life and introduce them to the concept of agonising pain, I take a deep breath, set a long skill and take a month long reality break.
I never get bored of EVE, just crimson fanged furious with some of the "people" who play it.
I always end up back in the game though.

That's true, you don't get bored of it as such, but you do need a break before you burn out. Kinda like, hunting people in lowsec all the time and just needing a bit of missioning to break the grind.
I'm not leaving EVE, oh no, i'm playing full on still. Just need another game too, and was a good way of bringing a point towards and perhaps spark a conversation(as it proved to do).

Different games. WoW is perfect for a few hours of mindless arcade action. I dont see anything wrong with it really. You will play it for a while, then get bored of that, and maybe come back to Eve for a while again.

Edited by: Lilian Long on 04/09/2007 17:45:28 I think both games are really demanding. I've played WoW after europe release in 2005 for several months with my old clan mates.
After we had all power-leveled to lvl.60, we spend most of our time with 40-people raid instance runs and preparing our equipment for those, because that is the endgame in wow. It was like 4 days a week 7 hours plus in instances in wow and on the other days farming ingredients for potions and such stuff to prepare for it.
I bailed out because it became too much work: Spending multiple days a week trying to master a new instance, while trying to farm the old instances/raid bosses as often as possible to supply everyone and his alt with epic equipment in our maybe 75 member guild. Nevertheless it was fun for some time.
I think EVE consumes also too much time, especially the ratio time spend in EVE vs. time having fun is broken, at least if you want to participate in alliance activities in 0.0.
The actual fighting is usually just minutes, the rest in eve are sitting somewhere in preparation of a fight or doing logistics stuff. Like currently. I'm hauling Trit in 0.0, because I need to do it someday. Boring, that's why I'm on the forums, while jumping my hauler.
Then I have to go to empire to get resupplies the next days, not exactly fun, but work.
Then I know that I have to make about a few bil isk somehow for dread, carrier, a command ship and some skills. Not exactly fun, especially, because ratting is grind, too and I don't really like to do it often. But I've trained millions of SP to use that stuff, so should do it someday.
And tomorrow again my tech-2 BPO spits out some new barrage m ammo in empire, so need to clone jump there and do a hauling trip to put it on the market. Not exactly fun, but it's easier isk than ratting and a steady income, so need to go there.
I already tore down my empire pos and stopped inventing to get rid of some eve work.
So yes, I can understand you. If a new interesting pvp mmorpg comes out, I probably also take a break from EVE again, run away from the work so to speak and relax there for a few months just to have fun.

WOW is a good game, especially when you are a bit tired of the plethora of decisions and thinking you have to do in this game.
In wow, the stats are nice and linear and the best gear and skill trees have already been worked out. So you just grab a beer and a friend and go pound on stuff.
This game, getting a small gang together can sometimes be a logistical nightmare. The PVP is fun though _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I have multiple MMO's for multiple reasons. I play LOTRO because I like the whole medieval theme and that game really puts me there.
And I play EVE for the Sci-fi factor.
If either of those had to be fixed so only one suits my needs then we'd have knights and archerers flying around in space in castles mining ore so we can make swords that shoot missiles.

I never understood why people announce that they're leaving in the first place but to each their own I guess.
And I could be wrong, but isn't everything we do here for nothing also? I mean I'm pretty sure BOB wont end up on the cover of the fortune 500 for running a huge corporation/alliance. In 10 years I probably wont even remember my time spent here. heh.

Playing the one enhances my enjoyment of the other. Furthermore, the 'pace' of each game is different -Eve is a slow but steady progression whereas Guild Wars is instant fun & action. It's also nice the one is sci-fi and the other fantasy to keep things interesting.
It helps that Guild Wars has no subscription -so I can justify maintaining my Eve accounts (plural)

I preffer city of villains/hero's myself. Getting into a gang is easy, it's great fun and not as much of a grind as WOW.
I have played wow for about 2 months but it just bores the pants of me, same with guild wars.
Anyhoo's, hope you have funstuffs!

I have been playing LOTRO for a month or so because I could play while I was from home at night. it doesn't require much attention (not like EVE does) and I could easily stop pretty much anywhere to take care of my real job...unlike EVE.
"Hang on about 20 minutes while I get to a station so I don't get podded"
yeah, that doesn't work.

Right... tell that to the 24/7 raiders.
Just because you play it that way it doesn't mean the game is built that way. EVE can be much more of a hobby than WoW.
That being said, WoW was the best MMO (no, it wasn't my first) I've played until I hit 60 and had to raid. I never hit MC, about 3 BRD/BRS raids got me ****ed enough to think "LOL GTFO". I did have many alts of every class like most people who don't like to raid, because if you don't raid, there's nothing else to do.
That was before I found EVE, EVE is certainly the best overall MMO out there for me, that's why I'm still here. Though it would not take much for another game to beat EVE, considering the horrible bugs and interface, most developers are too greedy or stupid to create something similar.

Yes ofcourse, and not saying that it's for all that way.
Was ofcourse talking from own personal preference.
And like i said, EVE is fun too, just a different fun.
WoW= Haha fun(in general). EVE= Solve math puzzle fun(in general).
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

What server are ya on? If you chose elindilmir (sp) I could hook ya up with a really good guild that really does take time to help some of us noobs. I've been having a blast on it so far.

Firefoot. I have plenty of people to fellowship with (roomie, her brother, other friends) but I have logged in maybe twice since my night project for work ended last week.
Thanks for the offer, though. I also have a standing invite to join some others on Landorval.
Rolling more toons and going through the same friggin leveling does not appeal to me.

Yeah so far I've only made a champion (Deitrich) who's level 22 or 23. Kinda stuck on him atm for solo quests. Then I started a captain (Nasghoul) that I'm really enjoying and I've got him up to 13. Been busy the last couple of days especially since I'm pulling 10's at work to make up for labor day weekend but I think I might have time tonight and I'm sure I've got alot of rest xp built up.

WoW is a fantastic game - the graphics are varied and gorgeous.
However, PvE in any game becomes simple and dull eventually, and PvP is more varied and challenging.

WoW is easier to get enjoyment out of. Eve, takes months of careful planning, to build up a significant income, get into good corporations, achieve tough goals. It also requires activity to get the best out of it, and dedication. If you want to be part of a successful alliance/corp, in order to truly make the most of it you have to spend a lot of time on the game.
