So, I just got my brand new Battlecruiser, and it comes with a drone bay (hurray, drones!) However, I am contemplating the best use for my drones.
Would it be best just to go for damage dealing drones?
This seems somewhat iffy to me. It may only increase my overall firepower by 10%, but it has the benefit of being useful at all ranges. That makes it good for those close flying frigates. I could always counter the frigates with a stasis web (and shoot them myself) but that takes away from the time in dealing with the real threats. Also, is there any way to send you drones after enemy frigates while you take care of the larger things? And would these be useful in PVP? They seem like too little of use to matter, and I doubt they have the firepower to take out tackling ships.
Perhaps armor repair drones?
I do Use armor tanking, and having repair drones would save me some capacitor, but is it enough to matter? Also would they be able to serve as a replacement for my armor repair unit. Would these be any use in PvP, or would they be my enemies' first targets.
Perhaps Electronic warfare drones?
This seems like it could be useful in PVP, as more time my enemy is jammed, the less he is shooting me. But I dont really know how effective these drones would be in this capacity. Do they jam effectively, or for any large ammount of time? Would multiple drones jam him more often, or is there a diminishing return to thier effectiveness? Would these drones help defend me against fire and forget missles, or enemy drones?
I could also use the drones that effectively lower my opponent's range. Stack a couple of those drones on him and he might not be able to hit anything beyond 15 km. But I dont know if thier range decreasing effect stacks with eachother, or my own tracking disruptors. Also would this be effective in missions where I am often fighting multiple enemies?
Assisting tactical drones?
I dont think this a in-game category, but its what I call the drones with things like target painters, and webifiers. These seem like nice drones as they make whatever I am targeting easier to hit. This combined with my own on-board targeters would really help me land the shots. But do the benefits of my drone's Target painter stack with my own target painter? Would multiple webifier and targeting drones have effects that stack?

I could use these to strip the armor right off my enemies. Ok well, maybe not.
As you can see, there is many types of drones available, and Im not sure which would be the most useful to use for either missions, or PvP. Is there any drones you like to use, or suggest? And why do you use/suggest that type of drone?
