Its time that Mining got some love, I've hit the preverbal mining-ship ceiling with my Hulk, and I think its time that CCP gives us miners some love. What we need/want are sub-classes of mining ships; namely ones that are for mining lasers only, ones for mining drones only, and ones for mixed combinations.

Lol you just got a capital ship with bonuses, unless you have one and 15 hulks going through belts then you have not hit the ceiling ---------------------------------

Sorry must have missed something somewhere... of what new 20 t2 ship do you speak.... only new ships that I know about that might be coming in the near future is possibly either a mission runner t2 battleship or a possible stealth orientated t2 bs, of and ofcourse the t1 gas harvesting barge and probably its t2 equivalent Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. what we miners need is NOT new ships, we got plenty, what we DO need is: -) fixing the things that arenŠt working (mining foreman mindlink still wasnŠt doing what it was supposed to be doing to gang last time i checked (post REV2.2) tho -) more skills not fixating on yield, the roids canŠt support more yield as it is now ==> bigger roids anyone? skills like: increase range on mining lasers, decrease crystal degradation, decrease cpu use of mining equipment, advanced skill for cpu tweaking on barges...... -) working ore scanner -) modules designed to work solely on a barge with it limited cpu power pretty yellow beams

Seriously, Rokhs make quite good mining ships that can give a reasonable yield with a minimum of skillpoints. If you want to trade off risking a 130M BS vs whatever a Retriever costs these days, I dunno? 8M? But they're a lot more work to mine with, what with having to empty the cargo every 30 seconds instead of every 6 minutes. Fine as long as you're not interrupted by anything and you're only focusing on one account. But as soon as something happens, you're gonna start losing ore.
A tier 4 BC-sized Exhumer that can still only mount 3 strips but with 2 extra high slots for tractors/salvagers, a bit more hp & cap (not a lot, just +10-15%, so that you can effectively tank it without needing ultra-pricey faction modules - another big advantage BS have over Mining Barges) and a 75m^3 drone bay would be nice (allowing 5x miner II and 5x T2 mediums, which is enough power to eventually grind down BS spawns - farming rat spawns while you mine is a big advantage mining BS have over Exhumers - Yesterday I popped something like 12 or 13 1.55M Conquistadors in 2 hours, which actually netted me more than the Crystalline Crokite I mined in the same time period) And since it's a BC, give it the BC Gang Mod role bonus (and the CPU - enough to fit the mod, but not with a full rack of mining upgrades) so it can fit a single gang mod so that it can sacrifice some of it's mining potential to boost gangmates. That throws a bone to the hi-sec miners too as well as giving the 0.0ers something to work up to.

Just give all mining ships a utility slot so they can fit a cloak along with their regular stuff. Both hijinx and awesome will result, and maybe the Rorqual will be useful.

I'm quite sure that few months after factional warfare comes out there will be many new and improved miningships.
This will be so because we Caldaris will win the war quite fast, blitzkrieg-style, and then we will not allow Galltent slaves to fly military ships, they will be allowed to use mining ships only, to mine for us while keeping 5% of the ore for themselves.
As Gallente always gets the best ships, there will be overpowered miningships just to serve the Gallente's needs.

That's a rather silly argument. It is perfectly possible to PVP, and use every one of those tactics in a Frigate. All the bigger ships are just shinier toys that offer different options. While EVE might be PVP biased if CCP did not want any mining or trading going on at all they would simply remove those aspects from the game. And unless/until they do miners and traders and everyone else have just as much right to ask for bigger and better things as the PVP'ers.

But we already have more than that. PvP is a blanket term for a lot of different types of activities. While mining is just a single activity. They are not equal.

What we really need is a ship that can pull roids closer to the mining ships. Nothing as annoying as having to relocate a whole mining gang because the roids are running out. Then you don't need to improve laser range, and it's another time sink. So CCP wins EVE. Yup.. ^^ And an ORE mining BC would seriously own for empire mining.. Make it with lots of juicy bonuses to gang mining.. Kinda like a little brother to the Rorqual as it would have no cap ship bays or ore commpression.. Just make sure the reqs are very very high like a command ship.. Exhumer 5 would be a good start..

Am I the only one who sees the irony here? Although it is true that any of the mentionned roles can be filled by a frigate, what you seem to fail t realize is that those same ships have the ability to MINE, and as such your argument holds no water. Hell, isn't there a frigate designed specifically to mine for each race?
IMHO if CCP decided to add some new minign ships, I think they should be capped at 3 or 4, and the reasonning here is simple. There are essentially 2 ways to look at mining and mining ships:
1)They're a very specific type of ship, which can be compared to specific roles of combat (missile boat, drone boat, rail sniper, EWAR etc.) in which case they should only get as many ships as each of those types, which due to the large number of shiptypes would not be very many.
2)They're a more broad type of ship (Mining, Hauling, Combat) in which case they'd be less important then combat ships. Immagine an eve without mining: it wouldn't be as good as it is now, but if CCP had NPCs selling the things that can currently only be built (ships, tech II mods etc) the bulk of the damage would not be nearly as bad. Now immagine eve without combat: no one to buy any of the ores miners get, and if all you're doing is mining all day to build yourself more ships to keep mining all day to build yourself more ships (etc.) then there's really no point in playing an online game now is there?
And even though it's already been said: It really wouldn't matter if CCP introduced new specialized mining ships, because in the end everyone would STILL choose the one with the highest yield. Even the OP made this post because he "hit the preverbal mining-ship ceiling with my Hulk", and he's not arguing for more shiptypes but rather for better ships, because apparently the ability to fill a can in 10 minutes isn't good enough for him

They culd introduce specced mining ship - like an ORE Veld extraction vessel or a Pyroxes one. Make them JUST for low ends so as to compensate for the mineral compression nerf.
