He also said that it cannot be removed...
It needs some alternative system for intel instead of just being flat out removed...

Geez, listen to the whole conversation: Yes he wants it removed but not now because there aren't game mechanics that overweigh the removal of local.
To those against removing local: wait untill they introduce the mechanics to replace it To those shouting victory: it isn't removed yet... might take another year by the looks of CCP's schedule.
And finally, learn to post in existing threads instead of posting all over the place.

No, the concept of having to spend 22 and a half out of my 23 hours searching for targets is, though.
Altering local just has far too many repurcussions to ever be viable.

But going by removed and replaced... willing to put money on it.. it means just a streched out skill set/isk/timesink activity... aka the never ending generic mmo grind.. like everything else ccp strech out
ofc it will be just as effective as what local offers now, anything else would be suicide.. considering all the palpitations of a total blackout (totaly overlooked by players like the OP just saying Yaaa! .... deserting any purpose of it meaning anything radical.... it'll just look cool new and shiny on the surface fooling most.... while they train their skills for the next 3-4 months, then only to realise nothings actualy changed
prove me wrong... but ccp have a track record of doing this, it's all i see when they say such things ______

I would love to see local "changed" as I cannot believe that we all use a chat channel as our primary means of locating other pilots in space. One would expect that is a function that the on-board scanner would fill, not a chat channel.

If you want, you can just pretend the scanner is doing it, and it's simply outputting the information through your local communications system.

He said he didn't like Local, but it needed replacing with a more EVE-y alternative.
That does not equate to just "REMOVE LOCAL!!!". ------

Well, unfortunately Oveur tends to say a lot of things which are the exact opposite of how things turn out, so I wouldn't get overly <groan> excited.
Oveur was absolutely against instajumps, but we got warp to 0 because he *had* to do it to solve the lag. Which worked out well. Because we all know it would have been impossible to delete insta bm's without adding warp to 0. Result - a tiny, overcrowded, and boring universe. Nice.
Oveur has stated that the local channel should be used for talking, and not as an intel gathering too. That was before portraits showed standings info. That info gathering tool *had* to be implemented to cut down on "show info" lag (and because it was easier to do that than actually punish people who hacked the client to provide the same information .. because banning people for cheating cost $$ -- ofc banning macro-mining accounts proves that CCP will ban regardless of cost, which is why we don't see macro miners anymore .. oh, wait).
Ironically, we nearly did lose local once, but CCP listened to the whines rather than the constructive arguements .. again .. and so we are stuck with it.
But remember kiddies, Eve is a really very, very, very, harsh game .. unless people don't like something, then CCP will soften it up and add fluff .. because it cures the lag, seriously. They said so.
180?
I'm starting to think that if CCP hadn't kept introducing lag saving measures we'd actually have less lag. Maybe less players too .. but that hurts CCP, not those who choose Eve because of what it was.
Then again, I'm just a cynical old git, so you can ignore all the above, but not the below:
I really am a huge CCP "fanboi", but there comes a point where even I start to wonder if a popular Eve will ever be a playable Eve.
The Battleships is not and should not be a solo pwnmobile - Oveur

Oveur has always said he wants local removed once they have something suitable to replace it with. This is something that they have been trying to work out a replacement for since at least as long as I have been around, which is several years. One day they'll most likely figure out a workable alternative. ----- Visible Implants |
