Very nice write-up. I haven't been able to watch all fights, but this comes very close to actually watching it

"No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by the force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments, tyrants and armies can not stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free." - G'Kar in Babylon 5
Although slightly out of context, I thought it had it's place here, now the freedom fighters had won a little battle over the big territorial guys.
Thank you for the splendid writeup. A good read, now the server is down for maintenance, and it's greatly appreciated Sakura. To the whole SF-team: Thanks for, what in my opinion was, the most exciting match in the history of the EVE Alliance PvP Tournament. I was shaking after it was done, and still does even though I've reviewed the fight quite a few times now.
See you in zero gravity!

Nice write-up Sakura. Thanks for taking the time to put all that together. This sort of stuff is a treasure trove of useful information for us reporter types and some enjoyable reading too.

Originally by: Sakura Nihil We could have also decided to do Vexors, but, we'd have to either go blasters, light drones, and medium ECM drones versus blasters, medium drones, and light ECM drones. It could have worked, but with one less turret slot and one less lowslot, it was suboptimal - plus, the phallic imagery was just too much to pass up, charging across the field like that .
I am very happy to learn that my after-match description of your team ("ten of the most phallic ships in the game") was entirely what you had intended.
It really set the mood for the finals. Upset and excitement all around. ----- Visible Implants |

Originally by: Trevedian I made 1 wise ***** about RPers, which I regret. But I said numerous good things about SF in particular. I think you guys are great for the game, your events and well-written posts serve to augment your many accomplishments.
Kudos SF!
Thank you for showing us the respect we've been after more than anything else in this tournament, no lingering hard feelings from me for it .
One random thing actually - I really hope they upload the Finals onto the EVETV website soon, especially the commentary after our match. We completely missed it as it was vocal chaos afterwards, and would like to hear what the commentators thought about that.

Thanks for the insightful tournament report and much congrats to your campaign. The match against BoB makes for a great price, a memory you guys will have for an eternity. (Had such a moment in WoW myself - been 3 years, but it still feels like yesterday).
I have only been playing this game for a month now, but thanks to various guides, eve-tv tournament coverage as well as excellent forum posts such as yours, I am learning quick and will hopefully be ready for real pvp in 0.0 soon.

Just a bit - he came out of retirement to help us prepare and fight in the tourney, and to be honest deserves special mention.
Also, I just linked the BoB v. SF match that's playable in Firefox version, the PL v. SF match isn't available yet however.

Originally by: Trevedian The Star Fraction won at EVE last night, being the first team to beat BOB in... 4 Tournaments?
Little remembered fact :
BoB actually didn't do that well in the very first tournament, the Amarr Imperial Succession Championship, compared to their later supremacy that is.
BIG in fact kicked some BoB ass in that very first tournament (which was a corp tournament, and not an alliance tournament)
If I recall correctly the first 3 places of that tournament where
1st : MASS 2nd : BIG 3rd : BoB
So there - It's been done before
And that was out of 80 teams - Not 40 as today.
And imo it was alot more unforgiven back then, as the *initial* rounds where the knock out rounds. So you had to win *all* of your first 4 fights - To get into the "finals", that pitted the 5 teams (winners of each house) aginst each other.
Everyone fought everyone else, and the one with most wins (MASS 4 out of 4) won it. BIG came 2nd with 3 out of 4 possible wins and BoB came 3rd with only 2 wins out of 4 possible
I think todays format is the better though
And that concludes todays history lesson
Lots and lots and lots of water under the bridge since then

Edited by: skipper johnson on 10/09/2007 23:08:51 You guys have won Eve. Well done guys.
I think you've just made the biggest achievement in the game. Had you not beaten Bob and knocked them out, I believe they would have won the tournament, so in my books you are the tourney winners.
For some reason its not showing my corp/alliance details, so I thought I better add it.

Mostly synomonous in my mind though
Cant recall if BoB was already created back then tbh.
