So i have an alt for mining, and get this, one haul of plag brings in less than some of the lower end things I refine on missions. If I want any amount of mexallon, One mission would net me more of it than mining for a day. Wth? Am i doing something wrong?

Perhaps some more information might be useful. How are you mining? What skill level? What ship?
Plagioclaise happens to be one of the least valuable ore.
Mining in High Sec, is very low risk, as such, it is very low reward. Low sec and 0.0 have much higher risk, and as would be expected, much higher reward.

Well.. okay, it's a new character so it's using... a procurer. Yeah, I know.
Now if the laughing has died down, I really don't see profit in mining scaling very well. 9 days from now I get a retriver, twice the haul, half the time. I read somewhere plag has the best cargo to mexallon ratio, but at this rate not only is it more economical just to reprocess loot, you'd actually get more density hauling the refined mineral around instead of the ore. Is this a valid assumption?

Yes, in general ore takes up more space than the refined minerals, and if you mine in high sec, you top outa bit over 10 mill pr hour in a hulk, mission running tends to give much larger rewards than that.

I mined for a little less than an hour yesterday using a Retriever in 0 sec and made about 20-21mil. Mining doesn't look like good profit in the beginning but a miner in a hulk with good skills can make a lot of ISK down in 0 sec. ------------------------------ ~ Eve Online API Programmer ~ - Evewebspace Developer - Like my stuff? Just like anything else, train the skills and use the best equipment you can. On 9/14, I will have completed ~24 days of training just for that last level of mining barge to use a covetor. Then I'll be training up a few levels of Exhumer. Money per hour may be a little higher in mission-running and selling the mods, but if you want new ships, someone's got to have minerals in vast quantities, and since I like to build ships now and then.... I mine so I can build. There are folks I know that go through ships a little faster than others , but it's still money in my accounts. Mining can also be just the thing for when one wants to kick back and relax a bit and still make some ISK. Mindless activity for the most part with a couple rats now and then to keep one from slipping into a coma makes for a pleasant way to relax for a few hours. It's not for everyone, but the same can be said for PvP and . _______________________________

I believe that if you are looking to get MEX, that Kernite has the highest amout of mex per m3 of the raw ore.

Yeah, kernite has the highest mex yield per unit of ore... but plag has the highest yield per cubic metre. It is the yield per m3 that really matters.
