I am told that a properly set-up Itty 5 can swallow whole jetcans. What, skill-wise, and equipment-wise, is necessary to pull this off?

Hull Upgrades lvl 4 I believe, place in the lows all Expanded Cargoholds II's. Fill Itty V up with 8 Giant Secure Containers.
Swallow jet can whole.

i have 5 cargo expander II's in low and 2 of the tech 1 cargo rigs in the hardpoints and I have 38,400ish m3. with 12 of the largest secure cans and can haul just a tad under 50k m3 of stuff. I can't logon to check exact numbers but those are close.

Edited by: Nootami on 11/09/2007 22:29:35 I believe, and someone who has quickfit as I'm on a laptop and not at my home, that an Iteron 5 with 5 expanded cargohold II's will be around 26km3 cargo hold. Divide that by 3 for the number of Giant Secure Containers, and you get 8. 8x900= 7200. 26km3 + 7200 = 32k m3? It should be around there.
*EDIT* forgot about rigs... I just started playing again last month after a two year break so thinking about rigs is not something I do on a regular basis, sorry ------------------------------------------

The reason I ask is that I have Caldari indies trained to V, and I was wondering if it'd be worth it to take Gallente indy to V just for the Ity. Can a Badger 2 be set up to swallow a can?

No you don't. If you can put 12 containers inside it you have THREE cargohold optimizations and 5 T2 expanded cargoholds, giving you a grand total of roughly 38400 m3 (as you stated).
With teh said 12 Giant countainers you can haul around 49000 m3 of stuff, assuming the stuff fits perfectly in the giants.

And even if it doesn't... you're still hauling a freakishly huge amount of stuff. -------------------------------------------------- FRIGATS Coalition FREGE-Red-IAC-Goon-AAA-Tau-Southerncross

T1 rigs, T2 expanders
Badger Mark II : 5250 * 1.25 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 20686.8 m^3 cargo Bustard : 5500 * 1.25 * 1.15 * 1.15 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 30635.1 m^3 cargo
2xT2 rigs (+1x T1 on Badger), T2 expanders
Badger Mark II : 5250 * 1.25 * 1.2 * 1.2 * 1.15 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 22524.7 m^3 cargo Bustard : 5500 * 1.25 * 1.2 * 1.2 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 * 1.275 = 33356.9 m^3 cargo

So for quick repitition: which industrial should you bother training to lvl 5 if you want to haul the maximum possible amount?
ps. those excel calcs looked awesome but didn't make much sense to me ds.

Depends.
iteron m5 has with cargo rigs the biggest possible cargo hold (including t2 indies). But its is a paperthin ship.
Of the DS transport ships the impel has the biggest cargohold. Around 6% smaller than an iteron m5 - but it has a far better tank instead.

Iteron Mark V is currently the max hauler (unless you count the freighters).
Yeah, those spread sheets are really only made for my own use and since my Excel skills are pretty much limited to basic formulas, I just chose to show all the numbers that I actually use.
The basics of it is that the first column (the grey one) is the numbers that you vary with each ship (Basic cargo bay, amount of expanders, rigs etc). The second column is the multiplier that is added for each of those modules (half-truth, for skills it's the total multiplier). Third column is how much cargo you actually add, measured in cubic metres, by addind those modules/rigs/skills. Subtotals are just to seperate how much you're up to after each type of enhancement.
I'd upload it somewhere so people could play around with it themselves, but EVE-files doesn't allow excel files and I don't know any other easy upload sites.
There's actually a second sheet to it that also allows you to calculate values with overdrives.
