OK, this topic is frickin weak, if you want sharded split up alternate worlds with 1/10 of the population that this server tries to support, then go somewhere else. This is my eve, and we all have learned through the years, this is expected, issues with patches, i remember back in the fledgling days of EQ when the server crashed, you were out for days, not hours, boo hoo, i lost a couple hours of skill training, YOUR FLIPPIN BAD!!!! if you have played this game for even one patch period you should already know how to prepare for this. QUIT YOUR WHINING AND DONT TRY TO CHANGE MY EVE!!!!111oN3onE1!!

still reading computer for dummies
won't help, the more people the server can handle i 1 system the more people will get to that system, if they could make jita lag free with 1000 people in it the population will grow to 1500 making it laggy again

Edited by: Sorum Daemoth on 11/09/2007 22:49:37 Edited by: Sorum Daemoth on 11/09/2007 22:49:06 just for this post i now have a serious psychotic hatred for you trezisc.
But no worries of course CCP would never take away one of eve's most unique and amazing features as it would ruin what so many love. And the lag and crashing will not last, and even if it did i would rather deal with that then shard EVE.

And Fyi ive played eve for several years and it weas never as bad as it is now.
you most live in jita
i never lag in eve unless am in jita, ren, amarr and so on
You must live in empire.
Try 0.0 alliance fights. They are fine is its maybe 25v25, although i've actually been de-sync'd by a much smaller battle >.<. But as soon as you enter a big alliance fight, averaging around 250 in system, it can take up to 3 minutes for a module to actually turn on.
Get this too. The other day i went to jump through a gate, 2 min queue, queue cancelled stuck in jump, 5 mins later i warp off the a planet i had been spamming. I messaged a gm saying i was stuck, and as i was sat in one system where i warped off, he was reporting me in another on the other side of the gate!! Serious problem. I aint gonna troll, but ccp do need to either put more man hours into this or get some external specialists in. Dont spend 3million on advertising, spend it on getting the game fixed.

Skipping the rest of the thread, you'd find that a vast majority of the people playing the game would probably leave if the server got sharded.

It is really easy to suggest that you just 'upgrade' the servers. But the truth is at some point upgrading the processors from a 3.5 ghz to a 3.6 ghz just isn't feasible for any kind of return. Likewise, you can't just pump more RAM into a server to make it better either. At some point you have to tackle logistical issues with how the servers communicate and you start running into theory limitations. I assume if it was just a process of putting a bigger processor into the server they would have already done that.

Obviously this single game server cannot cope with the amount of players as you can notice with the 5000m/s ping time you get when you enter a crowded zone.
Why not give us another server that we can play on.
Gee man...your right. Ever since WOW invented the mmo genre, these crappy wannabe games have been trying to do it on the cheap!

WoW server reliability is so bad they have had to start paying compensation.
Oh yeah, and no sharding in Eve. Ever. Those ten mighty E-Peens that tore through BoB did it on my server and I can see no better example of what would be destroyed by sharding. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |
