Who?
Behind HUN Reloaded is the HUN Corp. with almost 4 years of history in EVE, comprised of exclusively Hungarian nationals. (Sorry Stavros, you got to learn the language before we can consider your application)
The corporation was member of (in chronological order) the Fountain Alliance, the Imperium alliance, the Forsaken Empire alliance and the E.R.A. alliance.
People usually described the HUN Corp. as good, even if a little suicidal, pvpÆers.
2006.05.13 the corp closed its doors and got frozen while the members joined other corps and alliances, some joined BOB, some joined ASCN and some joined Morsus Mihi. (You can imagine the hilarity of podding each other during the BOB vs. ASCN warà)
The corp was inactive for almost a year, the previous good name recognition faded and people started to mix us with The Huns (different corp, different history, different language). 2007.04.16 we reactivated the corp with most of the core members and invited a couple of players with proven pvp experience who didnÆt have previous affiliation with the corp. HUN Reloaded alliance was born at this time as well, although purely for the management of alliance standings.
Our goal was to have, once again, a tight-knit group of friends having fun together and doing small gang warfare which we love the most in EVE.
We knew from previous experience that creating a large corp based purely on Hungarian players and become competitive in todayÆs alliance warfare, is not a trivial task and has a good chance to fail on the long run so we didnÆt plan on growing too much.
I hate to shatter StevieSGÆs illusions about us, but we arenÆt a bunch of geeks playing from a cybercafT. While we do consider ourselves EVE enthusiasts, almost every single one of us are professionals, from engineers to programmers, even with a chartered accountant and a law enforcement officer added to the mix.
What?
We almost never made it into the tournament for two reasons; we forgot to sign up during the first batch of applications and only got in at the last possible moment (a couple of guys had to twist the arm of the CEO to actually make the application).
Also the group matches of the tournament were exactly on the same date when we originally planned to do our annual get-together called HeBeGoDo 2.0 (i.e. Henter Bela is Going Down) when we travel to the most remote corner of the country and meet at Henter BelaÆs (aka Letum Omnis, who was our team captain) to drink unhealthy amounts of alcohol (HenterÆs Modified Sensor Dampener is a killer, I tell ya).
When people realized that the planned weekend of drunken merriness was out of the window there was a small revolt and someone (who shall not be named) even refused to participate in the tournament in protest.
We only started training for the tournament one day before the first match (true story) with the help of another Hungarian alliance called The Sphere Confederation.
Tried a couple of combinations but decided to stick with the Thorax gang as our first setup mainly for two reasons: first it had a brutal dps and managed to kill 3 Crystal set ravens just under two minutes and secondly Thorax is the HUN CorpÆs signature ship from the old days so we figured even if we were to die then we would die in style honoring our traditions.

Part II.
We knew perfectly well, that Burn Eden are professional Caldari specialist and probably the only setup that has a high chance of beating the sheer firepower of the Thorax gang are missile boats but we still took the chance. Since ours was the last match on the first day, weÆve had plenty of time to watch the effectiveness of the various setups. As we saw those caracal gangs owning the field, we became more and more afraid of the possibility, that the Caldari specialists might come with a similar setup. Nonetheless, we decided to go through with our initial plan and hope for the best.
As it turned out, our fears were justified, we were literally pwned. It was a slap on the face, a wakeup call to take the tournament a bit more seriously. Everyone can probably thank Burn Eden for driving us into winning the tournament, since without the failure of the Thoraxes, we just wouldnÆt have had the incentive to sit down and whip up a decent setup.
The rest of the matches from our point of view:
Vs. Agony Empire: while this might have looked like an easy win, we have learned quite a lot about our new setup and this allowed us to fine tune it.
Vs. Cult of War: this was one of the most stressful matches. CoW had a very solid tactic, they kept their dampener ships out of the range of the FOFs and the ravens only aggroed the primary.
This meant that several caracals were blind and unable to fire. Lost about half of our dps and havenÆt gotten it back for 10 minutes. That is the reason why we couldnÆt break their tank for a long time. The fact that after our initial loss, our advancement was at stake only added to the frustration during those painful 10 minutes.
We had to chase after their gang while remaining in tight formation, after 10-12 minutes we got close enough to the ravens to be able to lock, CoW also made a few tactical errors, like running out of space to maneuver and two Ravens bumping into each other while the third drifted out of rep range.
The concentrated fire of the conventional missiles did a short work of them once we got into range.
The following week, myself and another guy came up independently with the idea of spicing up our setup with a neut Curse. I was afraid that our setup could be beaten by a well coordinated speed fitted dampening team, who could very well stay out of FOF range, keep distance and not run out of space to maneuver. When I mentioned my concerns to Tusko Hopkings (one of our think-tanks and one of the kick arse Basilisk pilots), he told me that this scenario was already been taken care of by adding the Curse I was just about to suggest.
Vs. Chaos Incarnate: adding the curse obviously paid off, the blaster Hyperions parked themselves comfortably close.
Once we managed to get into the elimination stage the stakes got a lot higher, so we started brainstorming again and eventually came up with the 2x Basilisk, 1x Curse and 7x Manticore setup.
We dropped the dampeners in favor of more sensor boosters, so the only EW related stuff we decided to keep was the obscene amount of ECCM and projected ECCM on the Basilisks (we did even put more on them at this stage), some EW drones as backup depending on the team we faced and the neutralizers.
At this point, some of our pilots bought low grade pirate implant sets. A talisman set for the Curse pilot and several Halo sets for the basilisk and manticore pilots. The Curse also got its shield tank doubled and the Manticores were using the above mentioned extra sensor booster for insta-lock-alpha-strike-pwnage against other frigs.

Part III.
Vs. Atlas Alliance: The Atlas frigs were surprisingly well tanked, we couldnÆt alpha them and we even had to switch missile types to break their tank. Also, one of their Hookbill pilots was called almost the same as the Myrmidon pilot, which caused focus fire issues.
The main issue why their superior firepower didnÆt work was because they used heavy drones and once the drones started to orbit the Manticores who were sitting still, their dps dropped to zero.
One of our Manticore pilots lost connection during the match and couldnÆt get back until after the match. It wasnÆt a first blood as EVE TV stated but a disconnect.
Vs. The Five: We called only two frigs as primary this time for the Manticores, the insta-lock-alpha-strike-pwnage worked. The Five guys were very good sports on local afterwards. Apparently they figured we would come with a Thorax gang and prepared for that.
Vs. Cruel Intentions: One of the most challenging fights since Cruel was well prepared against us and had medium drones with them. It took us a while to find the right damage type and to realize that while they kept their range we could just unleash the curse pilot on them since the basilisks were not dampened and could support the Curse from quite far away.
Vs. Pandemic Legion: We guestimated the total hp of the pandemic bombers from what we have seen from their matches and assigned primaries accordingly to our double sensor boosted alpha strike team of Manticores.
The result was an unfortunately short final since Pandemic expected us to load FOFs and delayed dampeners in order to draw fire to their speed-tanked frigs. By the way, the ECM burst was working perfectly guys, on our dps ships.
How?
I guess it is hard to find one single defining quality that makes champions.
I could say that it could be due to all of us speaking our native language with very little variation in dialect on Ventrilo which dramatically reduces the chance of misunderstandings and gives a lot of buffer to correct tactical mistakes in time (and this makes a lot harder to infiltrate the corp as well, hello spies o/).
Being long time friends helps as well, as the core of the corp has been playing together for years.
As a result of the above factors, there was absolute trust between the members of the tournament team.
The EVE TV experts (except Eddz) and the outcome of our first match (with the lolthorax forum comments) helped a lot in successfully lowering all expectations people had towards us. This was well represented by the BIG betting site, which at the end showed 1:1683 odds against us. The forum vote on the ultimate winner ended at about 3.5% voting for HUN. IÆm sure this caused quite a few teams not to focus too much on us.
As Darpz put it on the SHC forums, æI think it says something that all of the Semifinalist were NOT territorial alliances but were small gang pvpers. it shows this tourney might of finally found a balance between isk vs skillÆ. That is most certainly true in my opinion.
Without our Basilisk pilots (who also made most of the brainstorming) and without disciplined teamwork this would have looked a whole lot different.
Luck. ECCM is such a roll of a dice. We counted on our ECCM stuffed Basilisks to keep us alive, both Chaos and Atlas managed to get in only one cycle of jam, if they got another cycle at the wrong moment, the whole system would have collapsed.
While the whole tournament was extremely stressful for us, winning this honor with the resources of an alliance that has only about 20 actual players total and not losing a single ship after our first match was real euphoria.
See you all the next time around, we will keep the cup safe.
I hope this report will answer all the questions we have been getting on various forums.

This tournament was probably the most expensive for most alliances, because more ships are used. I hope your opinion is not that we won the first 3 alliance tournaments because of ISK, instead of skill, because the pilots and me put alot of effort into it, you know .
Is Balazs Simon still playing? I remember him very well from the Fountain days. |

No Sir, I didn't mean to imply that. I meant that the changes gave us a chance to compete, at all.
Balazs got a new job recently and might return to play full time, will see.

Congratulations on the win - imho of the latest four you were the one to deserve it. Tusko knows his job, but i'd really liked to face you in one of the rounds.
Perhaps you are not too known nowadays - but at least in 'some' areas you are still remembered, even though you are on the other side now.

Congrats on the win guys, we were very much looking forward to giving you guys another shot at us in the finals. Unfortunatly the GM's had other things in mind, water under the bridge now. And after your next few fights, I called told my team that you were going to probably fighting us later on.
Your stratagy was very solid and showed out of the box thinking, props to you.
It is strange that you thought this tourny was expensive for most. For us it cost almost nothing, except for the equipment we actualy lost. No one used any pirate implants or anything of the sort. We dont believe in any of that crap, practice makes perfect.

Nope, on the contrary. I meant that the previous tournaments looked to be a lot more expensive and we probably would have had a much harder time bankrolling this project with faction modules allowed.

I think what the man is talking about with the ISK required in previous tourneys is: You had to have a great deal of money to afford to be competitive. Not that the winners lacked skill, its just that previous tourneys were set up so small PvP types with the skills to be competitive didn't have the resources to be competitive.
I think that makes sense. Ish.

previous tourneys required a Faction BS to be competetive and normally with HG slave/crystals. this tourney was far more forgiving in that respect.
