Guns vs missles. Which do you think is the better ship, based on default ship specs.
I am trained to pilot both, but can only afford one.
Gunnery and missle skills are about the same on my character.
Any advice?

Thorax requires near-perfect gun skills to make it really shine.
Caracal really isn't good at much IMO.
I say you go for the third option. How are your drone skills? If you are interested in gallente cruisers the vexor is a really nice ship that doesn't require sp to make it shine.

Ratting? Both do a good job, but I'd say Caracal. Low-sec belt piracy? I'd say Thorax by far.

Mwd bonus makes it a solid 0.0 staple for both masochists and cruiser enthusiasts if you want a break from the recon game.
For 0.0 camping though, its all about the ewar cara.

If you are fighting BOB then go thorax. If you plan on doing lvl2 missions then go caracal.

Definitely take the Thorax for pvp and the Caracal for ratting. If you can only have one then go for the Thorax but personally I'd go for the Vexor if you're able to dictate the opening range of an engagement, which you surely will be doing as the aggressor.

A Caracal with 5 assault missile launchers smashes through frigates in level 2 missions. I will eventually look into replacing one of the launchers with a launcher for heavier ordinance, but generally I'm very happy with the Caracal for level 2 missions.
(And I suspect that as I grow more familiar with PVE, I'll still be happy with it for level 3 missions.)
