Edited by: DubanFP on 12/09/2007 16:05:20 I know that there are people who like my posts, and there are people who dislike my posts. It's because I'm not afraid to put my money where my mouth is. No matter what you do someone somewhere will disagree with it and I accept that. However there is one thing I make sure of, and that is that I do not act the fool. Now that that is aside here are a few things you can do to avoid becoming the forum's private *****.
1) Do not mention removing any sort of unconsensual PVP. This includes unconsensual high-sec activities.
2) #1 brings me to point #2. Unless completely unexpected chances are it's your fault if you get destroyed. Even the things in point #1 will only happen if you let it happen. You accept that there is "risk" when you play EVE. Do not go whining if that "risk" was too big or it didn't pay out.
3) A single server is considered a major part of what makes EVE unique. It means your actions actually affect everyone else in the game "no matter how small". Mention of sharding the server is usually met constructively, but overall it's going to be turned down.
4) Respect the unconsensual PVP play style. Most PVPers will respect a "carebear"'s choice to be a "carebear" as long as the "carebear" respects the pirates choice to remove said "carebear" of his material goods.
5) Respect begets respect. Act constructively, and even if people disagree with you things will tend to continue constructively. Even posts from the above numbers usually only turn unconstructive once the OP loses his/her temper.
6) Know when you are defeated. Most posts only turn unconstructive when the OP refuses to accept that maybe he is incorrect, and then proceeds to break rule #5. At least be willing to accept that most people may not feel the same way.
7) Do not pretend to represent the majority. Saying the majority of people agree with me or creating a petition post against CCP only to be bombarded with disagreement replies doesn't bide well for your reputation. Even if you think most people will agree with you don't say it until you can be sure it is true.
8) Don't think your corp necessarily represents the majority. Understandably, chances are your joined a corp with similar attitudes as yours. Just because most of your corp agrees doesn't mean most people agree with you. Don't get angry and violate rule #6 just because your corp agrees with you. Chances are the forums is more widespread & better represents the majority then just your corp.
9) This one isn't a rule as much as it is advice. Don't be afraid to represent your opinion. Just be open to criticism & accept that not everyone will agree with you. As long as you accept the above 8 rules chances are you'll at least emerge with your dignity intact.
P.S. I hope there last statement in the first paragraph isn't too "strong" for you. If you "the mods" feel you must edit it I understand and please replace it with "Now that that is aside here are a few things you can do to avoid making a fool of yourself". ___________

10) Don't mis-spell a word so important to your topic
"unconsentual"?

I would put the post as overly dependant on one play style.
The converse of your rules.
1b) Do not mention trying change game mechanics to force more people into PVP. CCP presents the game as a sandbox not as a pure PVP product.
2b) Do not whine when people use legal tactics to avoid and escape encounters. No one has been promised PVP on demand.

I've only ever seen #1 once, and I've yet to see a forum post on the second one. The ones that I have listed happen almost every week. ___________

Nothing personal, but he DID have a valid point. At the very least coulnd't you have followed rule #5 "respect begets respect" in your response a bit better even if you didn't agree with him?
There is room recommendations & tweaking in the game system. I'm just saying up until your post he was constructive, shouldn't you have met him with the same constructive intent? ___________

his point is in conflict with your rule number 1, not to mention some other ones, also he wanted missions to be uninvadable, something which would be worse than wardecced people hiding in stations all day: you could jump to a mission, and from there warp everywhere, and no one could stop you. when someone undocks you have a chance to kill him, when someone warps to zero from an unfindable mission, you cant stop him; ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

I guess my point is that while your rules are nice, they are fairly easy to call into conflict.
I do agree with you on most counts though. ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."

Well the give salvaging agression idea does have some merit & makes sense it doesn't break any rules. The make it impossible for people to invade your deadspace idea wasn't good in my opinion.
In the end though i'm mostly saying there was call for flaming yet. Since that in itself is breaking #5. Just saying that it works both ways. If he gets angry himself at your arguments & discredits himself entirely then there's not much holding you back. ___________

well, not agreed on the aggro for salvaging, agreed on the rest: sometimes though when people are acting like freelancer players who hate eve because others can harm them, I just cant resist a good rabble rabble response.... still doesnt make a good point for my case though, I do understand, but still..... Im half carebear myself and those caerbears where bugging me to no end. the post about MY ASSETS and MY MISSION, and the whole position they take that thieves dont take any risks.... its slightly ludicrous: they expect the game to protect them, when they have enough options to do so themslves.
Anyhoooooo back on topic: nice set of rules ----------------------------------------------- "post with your main. delete your alt, you sad little exploiting metagamer."
