The Translation Team, now part of the Bug Hunter Division, is now accepting applications. The primary job of this team is to test various localizations of the EvE-Online client, find and iron out translation errors.
We are currently looking for native speaking Japanese, Russian and German players.
Requirements are:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- An excellent understanding of the English language.
- A minimum of 4 months playing EvE-Online.
- A good understanding of EvE mechanics.
- IRC experience is preferred but not completely necessary.
- Good communication skills including good written skills.
A well written application is a huge plus! We do look at other areas as well, but a well written application will greatly increase your chance. Do not apply with trial accounts as they will not be processed.
You can apply by clicking the Volunteer Program button under EVE INSIDER in the menu to your left. If you have already submitted an application please update it. Make sure that you've checked the Bug Hunter [ECAID] choice under question 5 (What area are you interested in volunteering for?).
You can read more about the EVE Volunteer Program (ISD) and EVE Bug Hunter Team (ECAID) in the FAQ and Player Guide.
Our systems rely on you having the correct email in your account details. If you have an old email there that you don't use we will not be able to contact you. Make sure your email is updated under account management! Also, if you have already applied and you haven't heard from us, check if your email spam filter may have blocked our email to you (especially with web-based email systems such as hotmail, yahoo etc.). We make an effort to ensure that every application receives a reply.
It is highly recommended to write your application answers in a word processing program such as MS Word, and copy/past them into the responce box. The application process has a tendency to reset if you take too long writing your answers.
Important: Please dont toggle the "Translation Team" box, only toggle the "Bug Hunter" box on your application form. But state somewhere in the application form that you want to apply as a translator.
If you have any questions regarding the application process, please ask them here.

Well, I don't think you guys need to complain to our poor Bughunters about what language to translate to. The decision where to localize EVE is, as I understand it, based on how many new customers we can get that we wouldn't have without a localized version of EVE in their language. And obv iously that decision is made at CCP and not ny volunteers.
I doubt we'll stop at German, Russan and Japanese though, but all in due time.

Its not like we are going to take away your english client. Though players may want to play the game in their native languages.

Thanks for everyone that applied so far, you should hear from us soon. Recruitment is still open.
The discussion about "who likes localizations and who not" ends now. Its a recruitment thread and is left open so you can ask questions regarding the recruitment process.
If you dont like a localized EvE-Client, fine, you dont have to use it.

No, this is where we normally post recruitment threads for various ISD teams.
We have not dropped any CCP staff...

Originally by: Sprzedawczyk So, let's ask the most important question - how much do you pay? Because you know, asking someone to play your game and write down all the quirks they find is one thing, but recruiting foreign native speakers with excellent language skills is totally different matter. I would dare and say that if someone has excellent understanding of an English language, chances are he is already a professional translator and that job pays well.
If we're to have translations checked by persons who don't know that you capitalize "I"s in English, we might as well don't have them at all. I don't want to slant anyone, just to point out that you're asking for rare skillset that usually doesn't come cheap.
This is a volunteer position and not a job, so we don't pay a salary. Volunteers get their account paid for though.
Originally by: Hilabana So if you have not lost any one then why do you need more BH ?
I know a lot of people that had put in for ISD to help but was turn down!
Bug Hunters are ISD volunteers, not CCP staff to begin with. ISD is a volunteer program, and we usually recruit people to them, in some cases like now we go so far as to advertise it. Part of it is to replace people who left and part of it is to expand the team.
People can be turned down from ISD for a lot of different reasons like warnings, bans, not being suitable for ISD or the team they applied for etc. We will never take people in simply because we need people if we don't think they are suitable for ISD.

Originally by: Matt Steel Spanish... lot's of latin and spanish players would like it in spanish.
On this matter, does CCP need volunteers to help with the Spanish translation? I¦m asking because my first language is Spanish and I would be glad to help out.
We are not looking for spanish translators yet, maybe in the near future.

We do not have an automatic reply system but we try to send some sort of reply to each and every application. Depending on how big the queue is the reply may take a while but you'll get one

By the way, I'd like to know if there are other French people who have apply to this Volonteer program.
As I saw that you were still searching for french translators after 1 month, I'm wondering if French people know this program
...Waiting for a future answer about my application ...
See you soon and have fun !
There have several french players applied, dont worry.

/me is waiting for his hyper-wonderful-extra-secret access key for Transam
That is not part of the Translator Teams current tasks, but who knows what will happen in the future.
