No hugs here... If they worked outside the gaming industry, they would have been in serious trouble last week and damn near fired this week.
Game industry is the only industry that failure is rewarded. Only thing to compare it to is Government and we all know how much we like them.

Since it's a unresolvable database issue causing the nodex to go kaboom, CCP programmer don't need no hug as it's not their fault.
MS programmers don't need no hug either. They hug all the time, and forget to do their job.

Originally by: PoWeR1 .... They get paid to do there job so they dont need any thanks. i will thank CCP when they sort this crappy lag out in fleet battles.
okey, and what do you work with?! ow wait don't tell me people ain't showing any kind of gratitude and screaming at you every time something unsuspecting happens?!
well anyway it is a fact that HAPPY workers works better and faster, and if you want them to do an "extra" thing for you, you will have to show gratitude. basically, how much work do you get for: 0,0217$ a hour?! i mean, be thankfully it isn't calculating your time online and taking a decent amount per hour ;)
and they ARE doing their job, and there is no reason not to be thankfully that they are doing that.

Because I cannot begin to imagine the knotted stomach frustration those programmers must be experiencing the last few days.

Originally by: i take sitting here reading though all the "YOU SUCK CCP, DO YOUR JOB RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE" post, and just thought that ccp programmers really needed a great big friendly appreciated HUG!! for the good work they are doing.
if any of you have any idea what it takes to program you will feel with them..
If you read any announcements by CCP you would realise that these downtimes are neither their error nor anything they can correct.
BUT, from a purely objective standpoint, there is this company that has this one big magic database which its entire business is built upon because they sell essentially a graphical interface to it to their customers. And this ultra-business-critical database has an "enterprise level" failover-solution to provide continued service in case of something going wrong. And it F*CKING breaks every time it is needed.
I don't envy CCP staff or the DBA guys in London right now. I feel with them. But that consultant that sold that system.... argh. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

All of us know that they are doing their best, but they should know that this crashes makes us frustated.
However, I'll give a hug and a lovely kiss if they can keep the servers online without crashes for 1 month :) --------------------------------------------------

Because it doesn't break any of the forum's rules?
Also, I'm assuming you're a programmer too Varia since you're making claims about other people's ability to program. Is that so?

Gaming servers are hardly anything like strict business servers. Besides, I'm happy that CCP doesn't fire people "just because the servers go down and they lose potential customers"...it shows that they arn't in it for the money.
Show me another game out there that has progressed over the years like EVE has with as much love that CCP has shown for it. They treat it kind of like their own child and all the subscribers are their adopted children...your family deserves your infinite patience.

I pay for a service, which I then expect to be rendered. The only reason CCP keeps me here is that there is not another game with the same features as Eve. Granted, the programmers and CCP deserve credit for creating a unique environment - but that is the job they chose and I pay for it. Thanking them is akin to thanking the Cop for enforcing the law: Thanks readily given when they stop a break-in or solve a crime committed against me, Hatred given when they give me a ticket.

Edited by: NightmareX on 12/09/2007 19:35:26 LOL @ all of the stupid guys here who are not signing this topic
If you are after a company that can run a game 100% fine without any problems, then you need to quit playing MMO'S, because no game companys that runs an MMO game can have a 100% stable server(s), and specially not when there are over 35k players on ONE, yes ONE server.
Hickups always happens, and saying bad words to CCP when the server are going down isn't going to make the server better or starting faster up etc. It's just making the case worser, and you know it, you just don't want to admit it, because you can't be away from the game for a little time, and need to play EVE 23/7.
Get a damn life
I'm always saying no problem to CCP when the server is going down, because from me they can use the time to ACTUALLY find and fix the problem with the server, and don't have to hurry and most likely fock up the server more, because of some idiots who cannot be without EVE for 30 mins - 1-2 hours, and are yelling OMGOMG I NEED THE SERVER UP NOW BECAUSE I CAN'T BE WITHOUT EVE EEEEEE*** etc.
You get my point in this.
And yes, this topic is for sure /signed x10000000 times

Also to those who are all like "rabble rabble rabble not signed, cause I R kewl employee at mai werk, and I R competent, odderwise I R fired rabble rabble CCP incompetent" - $50 your work doesnt have as complex a computer cluster and database system as EVE does, nor does it have that many concurrent users accessing it and change stuff around all the time, with no pause.

consider the fact that EVE is running about 98-99% of the time (excluding DT), people throw a fit for the %1 that the service is out... some of you need to take relaxation therapy

Things unexpectedly break and when they do I support the dev's. Go Dev's! Go! I love EVE and can't wait for it to be stable again!
That said, there are some problems like nodes crashing because they consistently and utterly fail to handle the load that are the dev's fault and they deserve to hear about it. They create a system that promotes ever growing fleets but completely collapses under the weight of those fleets. Either rework POS warfare to discourage blobbing or rework the servers to handle blobs as was suggested will happen in a recent dev blog.

not sticking to micro$oft products would have probably made ccp's life much easier by now, but it's to late to argue!
stuff like that just happens and it happens in other games too.
the ccp staff did a pretty great job handling such issues in the past and hey will do so in the future. problems can't be fixed in an instant, patience is king :)
