Pilkington Industries Delivering First Ares Interceptor
Pilkington Industries, Inc., manufacturer of Useful Ships at Affordable Prices(tm), is proud to announce that production and delivery of the new Ares interceptor is now progressing significantly ahead of schedule.
Pilkington's VP of Manufacturing, Kabara, will deliver the first Ares interceptor on Saturday afternoon and will fill additional pre-orders over the course of the weekend. Bulk orders will be processed starting Tuesday, 2/17/106.
The Ares interceptor is available under two pricing schemes, standard retail and BYOC+ISK.
Standard Retail:
*3,850,000 isk for pick-up at Duvolle Laboratores Factory, Luminaire III 1, Essence
BYOC+ISK:
*Carbonite Armour Plates: 30 *Fusion Reactor: 30 *Ion Thrusters: 40 *Magnetometric Sensor Clusters: 20 *Oscillator Capacitor Units: 30 *Photon Microprocessors: 20 *Pulse Shield Emitters: 25 *R.A.M. Starship Tech: 1 *ISK: 1,750,000 for pick-up at Duvolle Laboratores Factory, Luminaire III 1, Essence
All ships are numbered and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. BYOC deals are preferred to insure ready availability.
To order, please send an evemail message with "Ares order" in the subject line to Joel Pilkington. If you have already pre-ordered, you will receive pricing details and an invitation to confirm your order and pick up your new ship in Luminaire very shortly.
Please note that because of the complexity of the manufacturing process, only 4 ships can be produced per day. While we do our best to fill your orders as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee immediate availability. Licensing of the Ares interceptor is not currently under consideration because the time to draft the license agreement exceeds production time by a significant factor.
Pilkington Industries will buy the components listed in the BYOC+ISK deal at 12,500 ISK (Fusion reactor units) and 8,500 ISK (all others). These prices are significantly above recycle value at standard mineral prices of 9,216 and 4,096 ISK per unit respectively. If you would like to sell these components, please contact Kabara directly who will then arrange for purchase and pick-up.
If you have any question regarding the Ares interceptor or Pilkington Industries, please feel free to contact JP Beauregard by evemail.

Are you kidding me?
3.8 million for a Inteceptor that can get popped as easily are a regular frigate?
Sheesh talk about gougeing.
I stick with my Merlin and Griffin until the price goes down to where it should be. Around 500k to 1mil TOPS!

C'mon, guys, 3.5M is VERY reasonable, if you ask me.
Think of the time, effort, and hardwork that went into getting the bp plus the time it takes to get sufficient resources to ensure a regular supply of them.

Selling stuff at 1/3 mineral is stupid.
Interceptors won't drop to 500k before stuff gets WAY cheaper.

Yup, i'd happily pay 3.8m for an Interceptor... in about a month.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

Stats don't neccesarily tell the whole story. Until we've seen these ships in action i don't think we can say for sure weather they are "just frigates with T2 bits strapped on"
I for one will be purchasing one of these beasties ASAP, if for no other reason than i'm a speed freak.

No they can't... Targeting them takes ages, as does hitting them. They may not be tough, but they're fast and small. And what they're good for, mind, is killing other frigs - so they'll become quite prized when those capital-ship-threatening gunships and bombers hit the scene I'll wager.

For those querying the price - all the elite frigates cost at least 1-1.5 million to build, and thats assuming just the mineral recycle price of the tech 2 components, so no, its not gouging.
In total theres approximately 290-310 tech 2 components required to build them, plus the tech 1 version of the ship plus additional minerals including morphite.

Props to Pilkington Industries Inc, I have ordered 3 Ares from them and they have been some of the most professional people I have yet dealt with, would definitely recommend them.

I that Pilkington have set the standard at which all T2 producers should operate and be judged - they don't hide the components, they aren't secretive about what they cost or who and where they are being produced... and the prices they come out with are both realistic and reasonable.
Good on 'em and good luck to them.

"I stick with my Merlin and Griffin until the price goes down to where it should be. Around 500k to 1mil TOPS!"
... Too bad the components alone for those new things cost some 1.5-2 mil depending on where you buy. Doubt you are going to see the price go down where you'd want it.
Given the costs and the fact it's initial series... that's pretty nice price on the ship (even if yes, compared to tech.1 frigates the difference is horrible :/

I will agree that Pilkington's pricing for these frigates is reasonable considering the production costs - so kudos to you.
HOWEVER, that said, I would like to make it clear that CCP's designation of the production cost of these frigates is frankly ludicrous. Fancy Interceptor or not, it's still a frigate, and thus is a soft target. And it costs as much to make as a cruiser, using components which are not freely available (ie, highly limited supply).

Edited by: Ruffles on 14/02/2004 10:58:05 Sadly, being a PE5 builder I can tell you that these things cost around 1-1.2m to construct, thats making some assumptions on prices, and only assuming you can buy the components at mineral worth (which is cheaper then they are on the market for).
You will never ever seen them drop below 1 million unless CCP changes the build list.
Yes I agree they are still as likely to be easy to kill as any other frigate, but hey CCP makes the prices they should have thought about that before making them the same price as low-end cruisers.
Edit: Actually that price is cheaper then I expected to see them hit the market at. Its an honest and fair price, whilst in principle we probably agree the basic cost to them to build it is too high.

have you checked the bonus`s on these interceptors, how anyone can say they will be as soft as a normal frigate is beyond me,
just come up against 2 or 3 interceptors and you will see their worth,
at the minute a lone ordinary frigate and see off most cruisers, so these interceptors are going to be even stronger/faster/agile and altogether awesome

Edited by: JP Beauregard on 14/02/2004 11:37:40 Well, I have a few minutes so why not shoot a broadside at the uninformed whiners?
Anyone suggesting that we are gouging anyone with these prices should (a) take their heads out of their arses, unplug their ears and listen to the screams of agony that ring through the offices of other interceptor manufacturers who thought they should ask 9m per ship; (b) read up on the shopping list for the construction of the Ares again; (c) do some basic math.
The single greatest cost factor in interceptor production is the cost of components which are being sold at ridiculous multiples of their material value. And that is one factor we cannot control. I think we're dealing with it quite well, though.
And if you've gotten used to manufacturers selling cruisers at margins of 10-15%, you've spent too much time in the company of morons anyway.

LOL, you guys really need some imagination, and you need to get beyond the Big = Best idea.
You think your battleship is tops? What if you a) can't target and/or b) can't hit the ships that are attacking you?
You wanna sit 80km away and blast? One of these things will be on you within seconds, closer than your luvvly 1400's or 425's can target. Then wotcha gonna do? Run away?

Drones - yeah, wonder how (if?) they can be countered in an interceptor. only thing i can think of is that a blaster-master interceptor would be able to spare a gun to kill drones while still attacking the big ship?
or missiles on drones? anyway.
Pilkingon seems to be charging a perfectly reasonable price given the cost of TL2 "tools" not to mention the fact that the BP must have cost a pretty penny (either isk to buy or research monies)
I for one will be plonking down the requisite 3.8 for one when i have it (and the skills to pilot one) but then - the 450 m/s base speed is rather attractive

hmmm i think pilkington is charging a perfectly reasonable price at the time, considering standard market prices for the construction needed. But i still think Interceptor price has to drop to around 1mil, because why get a frigate if you can get a cruiser for it now :)
