Has anyone come across a particularly annoying anomoly recently where 2 of your drones will seem to get 'stuck' to each other???
I'm a fairly frequent mission runner, i use t2 hammerheads - and a couple of times each mission, 2 of the drones will cross paths, and then get tangled up or something, then theyre totally useless until i get them back into my bay. (they still move but its really slowly, and they just zig-zag around next to each other)
I have had it happen in the past (really infrequently mind you) when drones were returning to my bay, but now it seems to happen all the time when drones are attacking and orbiting a target...
Just me?

Edited by: Acinonyx Jubatus on 14/09/2007 10:52:42 This is often called "drone humping" Since they're both bumping and grinding...
The only real way to solve it is to have one attack something else then recall it quickly after, so they'll pull apart. And yes, I, and I'm sure others, have come across this.

As a drone using mission runner, it is the bane of my very EVE existence. ------

Just need to control them mroe, not a big thing really.
Like any other drone bug.
I think drones have always been thought of as "easy weapons". Kinda like afk ratting device. Which iw wrong.
What they need is less automation and more control options/shortcuts.

Oldschool bug that has been around forever, they seemed to have fixed it a few patches ago and now it has reared its ugly head once again in eve. Fastest way to fix it is to order one of the two retreating drones to attack a different target, and then recall it again once its moved a few hundred meters from the other drone.
Its to do with the way that drones have a 'hitbox' around which other ships or objects are detected and resisted when they pass within this hitbox. Similar to asteroids or other ships. Unfortunately it seems the hitbox is too big and the drones get 'caught' on eachother's hit zones and since they are both moving in the same direction and at the same speed, can't escape eachothers hit zone.
Painful bug that will hopefully be fixed in the next expansion where drone redesign has been listed.

The bug has been around forever, and yes it did seem to go away a few patches ago but now its back.
Try launching 14 Fighters or Drones - you'll see it happen about half the time. I honestly don't know why CCp can't get this one fixed - its very easy to reproduce.

Why not just remove drone hitboxes altogether?

The hitboxes are used when the drones interact with game objects like asteroids or stations, but I agree - the simplest solution would be to make drones not check to see if they are in contact with another drone. If that is possible in the code is another thing. -
