I say NO to these changes for simple reasons...
Fact 1: I am in Morsus Mihi. Fact 2: If people are allowed to walk around in stations... Fact 3: ....I have supple white buttocks.

I will bet you good money that 70-80% (at least!) who are joining simply so that they can have a virutal shop in space will leave in less than 6 months. Why? What happens when that person cannot fill their shop because their convoys of shop supplies keep getting suicide ganked? Or how about just being perma-wardecced because people just want to be arses? This is primarily a game of harsh realities, both in terms of space combat AND economics. If people aren't playing until they can have a happy-happy joy-joy station environment to play in, well, they'll still be in the wrong MMO once Ambulation comes.
Don't 70-80% quit within 6 months anyway?

Edited by: Cadela Fria on 17/09/2007 22:25:11 Lots of people seem to be extremely good critics towards anything new, and unfortunately it's usually those who scream and yell the loudest on these god forsaken forums. I read many a posts saying "This is just fluff", "This wont add to my gameplay", "Ambulation brings nothing new", "It's a waste of time", "It will lag the server", "They should focus on fixing lag instead" and rabble rabble rabble.
Fluff -> Surely every new thing added to the basics of the game, is just fluff by the logic used in this thread..capital ships are fluff. They're combat ships just on a bigger scale, or a just a big hauler..nothing new, just fluff to make people go "ooooooh shiny".
Same thing with outposts. You could already get your own stations as it were, they're called conquerable stations - But now you get to build your own, which by the way, doesn't look half as cool as the pre-built ones.
Won't add to my gameplay -> Well, luckily, there's more people then you playing the game and I bet you, a portion of them, disagree with you and thus where you see irritation and fluff, others see oppertunities and fun.
It's a shame when people pass judgement on things they haven't even tried yet or are just inherently critical towards because it goes outside of what they're used to in their game.
It will lag the server -> Ambulation will be done on seperate servers from the main game server and thus have no impact on the flow of "regular space". You would know this if you had taken the time to study this project rather then just hating it right off the bat.
They should be focusing on fixing lag -> They are though...It's odd when people say this, because fact of the matter is, they already are focusing their efforts on fixing lag..it's be stated, re-stated, re-printed and stated again that performance is their primary focus.
Anything else is just not true.
I for one am looking forward to it..This is still a MMORPG in space with a background story, cultural elements etc, so this is just another evolving step in the universe of EVE that I am personally welcoming.

Ambulation will:
Add variety to the gameplay, a glorified 3D chat it may be, but it does add new features to the gameplay as it gives you things to do.
Add more depth to Eve. I'm a trader and a miner, I spend alot of my time in stations looking through 2D menus, which in itself is always a hollow experience.
Probably assist CCP to direct and finally release planetary flight in a better form, as boarding space stations/boarding planets share similar concepts, and CCP are no doubt experimenting with the whole idea and seeing how it will work with players. Small steps first for such a large and requested feature, planetary flight will be here one day, surely.
Ambulation will not:
Ruin the game, because everytime you dock a station, you're essentially doing what Ambulation will allow you to do, only it makes it more interesting.
Eve tries to cater for all it's players, we all want different things from Eve. -----

Not sure if thats true of Goonswarm today. They seem to be more concerned with playing and enjoying the game, rather than getting kicks out of wrecking other players game experience.
My original sig was 'Enjoy lag free play in a dynamic space MMORPG'. It was remove for lack of EVE content! ;) |

I have not, nor have I ever been a member of the Goons. I was just making an informed observation.

This applies equally to people who insist that it will be orgasmically fun and will win everyone over with rainbows and pancakes and angel choirs.
First let me say that I'm not against it. I think it's dumb, and I sense the potential for putting the current gameplay (which I enjoy greatly) at risk, but if it makes people happy (and if all those other problems people mention do get fixed as well) then I'm all for it.
But remember, it'll be new code. You'll be paying to beta test. Half of you people taking the fanboi approach will be threatening to quit in a couple months because you can't get your store to look the way you imagined it when you assumed everything would be perfect.
And new code = new bugs. Even if it's on different servers, there have to be points of interface between the two systems. Those will be buggy, as all software is. Those bugs will very likely at some point/on some level affect even those of us who want nothing to do with ambulation.
And in 6 months, if the nay-sayers are right and the fun wears off for most players, will you be griping to CCP that they should make station-walking mandatory because you're frustrated that no one comes to your store? Will CCP force us out of our ships, despite insisting NOW that it will be optional?
I'm not a hater, and I hope you get the pancakes and angel choirs and chocolate rainbows that you want. As long as it doesn't change the current gameplay into something I didn't sign on for.
