I am new to EO, however I have caught a glimpse of the long history of this issue, but I haven't seen any complaints of it recently. Apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, but anyone else having the Acquiring Bulk Data hang like I am with the new patch? Read about, and tried, several of the older solutions including deleting/renaming cache folder, but no dice... Is there a current solution for this issue, saw a post about changing my MTU settings but really don't want to mess with my registry. I'm coming to the end of my 14 day FT, any one have the answer/suggestions for this issue, or am I SOL?
Thanks

Simplest brute-force answer: clean reinstall. Seems to eliminate that problem every time.
Also, how long is it hanging? Immediately after patching the half-dozen PCs I play EVE on, all of them take some additional time at "Acquiring Bulk Data", varying from a few seconds to upwards of two minutes. If you've left it for 5-10 minutes and it's still stuck there, then you're stuck stuck.

I think the server may be screwed right now. Mine froze in-game and now is hanging on the Character Selection ("Entering game as")screen.

Just logged in, flipped skill, checked market, and logged out. No problems. You in Jita, by any chance? Passed through earlier and it was lag hell, as usual.

Yep, just noticed I was in Jita when it dropped. It finally loaded and I was able to get the hell out of there. I'll have to remember to stay clear of Jita for a while...

I'm also in Jita and stuck at the same "Entering game as". Then it times out and goes back to character selection again. I've tried my alts and they can log in fine but they aren't in Jita.

Mephysto posted this in another thread not long ago:
Originally by: Mephysto We have been aware of a problem with bulk data download for some time now, and have been collecting information where possible. Can you please use the logserver to record what is happening next time, and file a bugreport about this. Running tracert and pasting the result into the bugreport would also help.
Thanks

How do you "logserver" before you log into the game? Where can I find the 'logserver' file so I can bugreport it?
Answers to these questions from anyone would be helpful.
Thanks

In the main Eve folder there is "Logserver" just click it. And I believe you also want "Server Mode" checked, it is under tools.
Also, if you look hard, you can find the Hitchhikers Guide in it.

well after 4 months of playing eve without any problems (bar the odd server downage etc) i'm unable to get past this "aquiring bulk data" problem....
I've reinstalled the game (twice)
Restarted and reinstalled the router
Got rid of the cache file completely (well not the actual file but all the subfolders etc)
and it still wont let me connect... any ideas?

Edited by: Tommy TenKreds on 21/09/2007 00:31:04 I had a real headache with this problem, which kept me out for about three days, until someone suggested lowering the MTU setting on my router.
My router (Huawei Smart MX882) has a default MTU setting of 1432. I found that lowering it to 1000 got the bulk data to load instantly, saving my family from further distress.
I later found that this was unnecessary once I toggled the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) setting to ON, following my ISP helpdesk's advice. It is OFF by default on my router's settings.
Now, it could be that my router has this issue because, I'm told, it is a 'hybrid' that allows ancient rigs like mine that only have a USB connection, to connect as if through an ethernet connection. If you are also connected to an external router through a USB connection, the UPnP option should probably be enabled. This is apparently also true of X-boxes connecting to MOG servers.
Alternatively, you may be able to see that I know very little about networking and this is all second hand garbage, but it worked for me.
HTH
P.S. If you have decent enough firewall software that will display active transfers (e.g. Sygate PF) - check to see whether any data at all is actually transferring during the logon. In my case, there wasn't any transfer going on after it appeared to hang at "Acquiring bulk data", so no amount of patience was going to help.

Yeah, that's a separate issue. One that is directly related to the high population of Jita.

Well, I've read through the thread and followed all the suggestions (i.e. flushing cache, re-installing, tweaking MTU at router and checking UPnP). Nothing helped.
However, some progress has been made, although not by my action. Yesterday I wasn't able to connect at all, the connection hanging on the 'loading bulk data' progress bar. Today however, I connected nicely, played for about 15 mins, got disconnected. This repeated two more times and now I can't connect at all anymore. Yet, I am still able to get to the character selection stage each time (so, improvement wrt yesterday). It now hangs when I am entering the game ('character selection').
Anyone seeing the same (small step) of progress?
Thanks

I am having this same problem. Not sure why. I still haven't tested the linux client yet. But the windows client hangs on "Aquaring Bulk data" for a long time. ---- Sign has been stolen by ugly dwarf from a unknown solar system. |

Holy thread resurrection!
Soo, what have you tried to fix it? Tried any of the suggestions mentioned above? _______
