At about 6 or so Mill sp, I realized I wasn't happy with being only Caldari. Now I fly Minmatar and Gallente.
Play for fun, do what you want
You can always train more and new stuff.
Just dont max everything at the start alright?
Im ugly, just look at my face!

Edited by: Kaathar Rielspar on 16/09/2007 06:08:48 you'll want better drone skills anyway since most matari stuff cruiser sized or bigger has a half decent drone bay.
perhaps:
- finish up minmatar frigate 5
- train inty/assault ships (both if you want)
- have fun flying around in t2 minnie frigate while training up gallente frig 5 and getting t2 hybrids
- enjoy your ability to fly claw/stilly/jag/wolf/taranis/ares(lol)/ishkur/enyo

Nah not too late; you can start training for gallente ships & their weaponsystems.
I had a similar problem; but bended it to my advantage; can pilot a variety of Caldari / minmatar ships now. So do`nt start anew; no skill is ever lost. You might switch to minmatar ships in some occasions; and gallente for others :)
And the bad drone skills aren`t a putoff either; pretty easy to train up droneskills to an acceptable level.

This post I made for another thread regarding Gallente BC skills should help you in case you want to go down that path as well. -

i would not start a new charater for several reasons
first some of the skills you have already will help you out
second if you dont like it you can go back
third while you are trainning gallente you can make money easier as a minnie
fourth minnie is a skill intensie race which you need to specialize in 3 weapon systems galletne will help you on 1 and most of the second
fifth you start at the begining so you will stil have the same drone skills for the most part and the day you might save can be spendt other places

I have 16mill or so SP and can fly almost all t1 ships and some Amarr and caldari t2 ones. Opting to fly more than one races ships is never a mistake even if it will take alittle longer to get good at both.
Armour tanking skills work for Mini(some) and Gallente. So do drones and most gunnery skills. Basic fitting skills are also common. Autocannons even work on some Gallente ships.
Cross training the two should not be a problem.

Having trained all the way up to Minmatar Cruiser and med guns, I switched to Caldari and am now a missile junkie. Switching over means a few things, one most skills you have trained for Minmatar (engineering, electronics, mechanic etc.) are good for a Caldari pilot as well.
If you put some effort in the gunnery support skills all the better as later on in Caldari life you might want to fly a Rokh and having your gunnery skills at a decent level helps a lot on a Rokh.
Besides the option to but a rust rocket just because you need to trafic something that doesn't fit your shuttle but needs to be transported fast is one of the advantages of being able to fly Minmatar ships.

Stick with the one you have. Switching to another race because you don't like your races ships would be a waste of time. The only real reason you should ever need to change characters would be if you really hate your attribute distribution.

No you shouldn't start a new char. It's a waste of time, I'm sure the stuff you trained has some cross race use. Perhaps, Learning skills, Fitting skills, Capacitor skills. you probably don't have that much in the way of Spaceship command which is the only real racial specific set.
But I think you're gonna end up training Gallente and get tired of seeing everyone else flying Gallente too :), and then you wish you could fly a tempest, hurricane, vagabond, slipnir etc :). IMO, Minmatar is the best balanced race, I think Gallente is gonna get hit with a nerf sooner or later.

You'll also find the combo of Minmatar/Gallente to be very useful, as Both Gallente & Minmatar ship skills are needed to fly the Angel Cartel Faction Frigates. Angel Cartel faction ships all rely on Minmatar weapon systems, so your previous gunnery skills won't go to waste if you ever pick up one of these faction ships.
Frigate: Dramiel Cruiser: Cynabal Battleship: Machariel
I'd recommend finishing off Frigate 5 for minmatar as it will be useful, as it is a skill needed for Covert ops/stealth bombers/Assault ships/Interceptors. (opens up a lot of Special role frigates), and if you decide to get Gallente Frigate 5 as well, you'd have a bigger choice of frigate and the special role frigates if yo choose to get them. I have never in my career in EVE regretted the fact to have finished training all racial frigates and all small weapons to 5. You will find out that what matters most is your supporting skills. And since you have spend most of your training there, you're not wasting any valuable training-time.
And not only do you have the benefit of the minnie T2-ships, also the 5 ranks are superb with the T1-frigates. I only have to point out the Rifter and the Probe here.
And should you feel the need to switch back to minmatar ships somewhere down the road... the droneskills you have picked up while flying gallente ships are still usefull, since minmatar are second best in almost everything.

I'm a Caldari so as such i trained all cald ships so I can fly T2 in pretty much every class. Then I got a Worm (gal faction frig) from somwhere i dont recal... anyway the point is i trained gal frig to lvl 5 and instantly can fly all T2 gal frigs cos i'd already trained the cov ops, assult ect ect to fly cald so as you progress it gets quicker and easier to fly different races.
keep your char as is its always good to be able to fly lots of different ships.
