I have been doing Federal Inspection cosmos mission for Intelligence Office agent Onreun Coen. All mission offers lasted for about a week, but when I got to 3/5 stage, it only lasted 24hours. I didn't pay attention so I screwed it up. Did anyone else get 1 day mission offer or was it just me?

This depends on the mission/agent. I've gotten cosmos missions that only give me 20 minutes or so to complete it. I make it a point to look at the "complete by" date/time right off.

I just dont accept missions till I know I can complete them straight away.

Cosmos storyline missions have a single clock for all parts (which I am sure is one week). If you start the first one and then take a break of a few days the clock has been counting down on the overall string. hence you should always try and do the whole storyline in one hit and not accept the first part till you know you can complete it
Also even speaking to the agent often starts the clock ticking but this is not the same for every cosmos misison

Stylom is right about the clock, and the same thing goes for multi-part Storylines. I'd recommend petitioning it since regular multipart missions don't work that way--no guarantees it'll work, but since Cosmos missions are a one-time deal it's worth a try. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I didn't accept it either. I'm talking about mission offer timeout...
Anyway, thank you all for the info. I'll make sure when talking to COSMOS agent I'll have enough free time to accept and complete all stages in a week period.

I guess I'll petition mine too - not a Cosmos one, a regular 10 part storyline. Started it, completed 5 out of 10 and left the sixth one hanging (courier, less ISK lost). Went away on business, found myself in a hotel with a laptop and an evening to kill - reported completion of part six - "...I have another mission for you..." - nope, none offered. So it looks like the 1 week timer started for the whole 10 parts, although individual missions had their own 1 week clock...
