Does anyone know where I can get the tool that allows me to take apart the database in Eve? I know one was floating around a while back, it is used in the Eve-DB and TTI-Nexus web sites. It seems to have disappeared though.

Nope, they only have exStuff, which doesn't do what I need it to do.
Devs, is there a chance that you have something that does this, and would like to release it?

well... the other sites seem to use the phyton language to extract the phyton objects ;) i tried it in php once, but all i got were even more phyton files. so i guess... best way to extract them is still unphytonize them. -- www.eve-i.com Programmer of EVEDude, exSTUFF and the Playlist Generator. |

Here at eveDB we're currently looking at releasing some of the information available to us in a format that is easily understandable by others, or maybe providing read-access to a database containing a copy of the data...
Obviously a lot of thought would have to go into this to minimize exploits etc. that could be found through using this data...

I'd be very interested in that. Ultimately I want the data in an SQL server database, and I can import from pretty much anything. What are the chances of you sending me an access db, or CSV files, or anything really that contains the complete data? Alternatively you could send me the code you use to decompile the database, or I will send you a login to my SQL server or a mySQL DB that you can pump the data into? The only reason we here at EVE-DB have not released publically our method of extracting the item database, is because it would be blatently smashing the EULA.
A how-to file, and the file itself, explaining how to reverse engineer the client, is not a nice thing..
CCP are working on a "limited" database. Showing everything thats on the market and *some* loot.
Afaik, EVE-DB will keep their ways but we will induce the "Published" flag so you don't have to sift through all the items that aren't even ingame yet.

ROFL, Show me any proof that CCP ever enforces their EULA. That document is a joke and nobody respects it because CCP doesn't back it up.

True, to an extent. CCP have already released the map data, which needs updating by the way ;-) However, the effect on making this information available to end users wouldn't be a big EULA buster. Don't forget that the EULA says exactly what CCP wants it to say. So if they say that everything is banned except getting the items out of the db... then so be it :-)
