What??? Oh man... I can't believe it! I was just reading the 11th book and came to check the forums, and now that! That's a really really sad thing. He had told about his disease, but he was so positive and hoped to make even more books after that one... A sad thing indeed; Rest In Peace, Robert Jordan.

The light shine on you, Robert Jordan, and may you shelter in the palm of the CreatorÆs hand. The last embrace of the Mother welcome you home.

Bah ... I always wanted to start reading the Wheel of Time, but never quite managed to start ... Now he passed away. Shame, of all known public figure loses, I am saddened the most by gone Fantasy Authors. May he rest well on whatever afterlife he went to. He will be missed.

The last book (A Memory of Light) is probably half done or more--directly written by Jordan. The final chapter(s) have been written for a long time now...and from what I understand for the last few months he's been taking copious notes and sharing details with his family. The last book WILL come out and the series finished. My guess would be late 2008 or early 2009...it might even be sooner depending on whats already done--Jordan was very limited in his writing time due to the amyloidosis, and the replacement author will undoubtably be able to crank pages out at a much faster rate once he gets settled in. (insert wry comment about needed half the pages to tell the same content here...great author, terribly verbose though)
The state of the last two prequels and the spinoff one-shots, however, are not looking too good imo.

The story will be finished. He had extensive notes for the Encyclopedia that Harriet (his wife) was writting. He told the rest of the story to his cousin and his wife. He made sure he didn't take the story with him. He promised that the book would be finished and it will.

I was saddened to hear this, i have just started reading the series at the beginning of the year, onto book 5 now, i met him a couple of times at a book signing though with my cousin who was a huge fan before i started reading the series, i noted that even then he did not look or act at all well but even through his illness he made a lot of time for his fans,
Rest in peace

His books lagged! I desynced after the 2nd one. The characters kept going around in circles and I got very confused.
Too bad he died before finnishing his last book though.
