Originally by: HiveMindedIndividual I'm not very vocal on Ambulation one way or the other, but I'd rather they focus on EVE's strong points instead of branching out in to the more traditional MMORPG territory.
I don't need a graphical representation of my character beyond the portraits to interact with my environment.

put me on your list.
Originally by: Niskin I don't hate ambulation, but calling it that annoys me. Sure, the dictionary definition of ambulation means to walk from one place to another, but it still sounds stupid. Maybe if they called it "Indoor Carebearing" I would like it more.

So instead of your argument that content developers are being hired for ambulation instead of bugfixers to optimize eve is false, as the content developers from a different game are doing content for EVE. So sorry, EVE is getting it's required amount of bugfixers.
Yep.. eve will be a giant beta test for another game and most people will not even know it. But I'm fine with that... I'm anxious to see if they can make another MMO that I enjoy as much as Eve.

Register me as a conscientious objector.
There were better visual arts/interface projects that that team could have done and there were better things that their salaries could have gone toward. Even if a few more programmers wouldn't speed up the new lag reducing features I would much rather have seen factional warfare or some EVE-wide events rather than being able to run -there, I said it- around a station.

So allow me to explain how billing works in a multi-departmental company: each department gets a limited and fixed amount of money and when one of the employees does work for their department they pay him out of that fixed amount of money. So even though it's the same company and those guys may be officially members of a different department they were still eating up the EVE departments budget and that means less money to hire bug fixers. It's possible that a different department picked up the tab for these guys working on EVE but I sincerely doubt it.

I'm sorry but what have you been smoking? Did you not experience desync for the last several months because that seemed to be seriously failing the "required amount of bugfixes."

I think it is quite funny. Because most of these people are going to use it and they are going to love it.
Later, when they are having so much fun using this new feature they supposedly hate, I will post my list of whines next to screenshots of their happy ambulatory goodness.
main reason there is no real point to it. So far its proven that CCP has a hard time just keeping the servers up as of late, can you just think of whats going to happen to Jita when this new fearture is added? Also people tend to be a bit bitter to the fact that other things should be implemented and/or fixed well beyond then even thinking of doing this. EVE is about space combat..not..Mimitar babes dancing around a mail box like Night Elves in WoW.
...wait a minute.
NM just add it :P

You're quite correct that putting more money and man-hours into a software project definitely means that it will appear more quickly and with fewer bugs.
That's why Windows Vista came out on time and problem free, for instance.

what im interested in seeing is this ambluation feature with fullblown Three Dee models walking around all pretty and then undocking to space back to staring at your FUUUGLY ass caldari ship. Imagine that!
Im really waiting for them to revamp the skins/models of the ships and getting out a GFX engine capable of transferring workload over to the GFX card
But ambulation should be nice :) Hope you don't get stuck in stations if you happen to walk to the center of the 4-4 station in jita and suddenly you are needed somewhere.

You need to distinguish between ambulation haters and those of us who just don't care whether it happens or not. I don't like most first person type games and can socialise well enough with friends on TS, to me ambulation is of 0 interest.
If others want to get excited about ambulation fine, just don't expect everyone to join in. However not caring whether it happens or not can turn into positive dislike if it causes any delays to new features in the "real" game or introduces more lag or technical issues.
It will be come especially annoying if I have to take part in anyway. If I have to walk to my agent to get missions, wasting time and granting the opportunity for some twelve year old halflife (or whatever the lastest shoot em up is)player annoy me, then I will certainly hate it.
Frankly as long as I can ignore it I promise not to hate it.

making a list.. checking it twice?
I love the idea of ambulation, but i do hope they take it very VERY slowely and try to weed out as much bugs as possible before they throw it on the server
ambulation will be kewl! I'm allready thinking about what to wear

It's goin to be cool to see the ships from that perspective, other than that, I dunno...the meeting feature might have some merit...
Hope there will be wheel chairs available so I don't have to walk so much though...
...and to allow said Stephen to participate...

I dislike ambulation.
It is not for Eve. Eve doesn't want or need it. It is so they can develop the character technology for other products that need it. And our Eve client has to handle it so that fanboiz can test it for free. Smooth move CCP.
Secondly, anything that relieves the boredom of being dock camped is bad.

Ambulation will be so great!
I can imagine it now.. you get this screen when you dock.. and you can buy MP5 and armor and stuff...
..then the air lock door opens and you throw in a flashbang... quick! guy behind a metal crate there! .. BANG!... woot dead... now bunnyhop to the corp office and camp in a corner!
Yeah.
Can't wait. --

Hang on. You complain that people are whining about "SOMETHING THEY'VE NOT USED", and then in the same breath you say they will love "SOMETHING YOU'VE NOT USED". How do you know????
Time spent ambulating around a station is time spent not blowing stuff up. Thats about the only fact available at the moment, everything else is opinion and speculation.
