EVE is actually an acronym. It stands for End Violent Encounters
Basically CCP has a dream of a universe where everyone in the universe gets together and puts an end to violence. Obviously it's still a work in progress...

Because the name is spelt with all capital letters. Whether it's an acronym or that's just how CCP rolls, it's all capitals. It is the same in RIFT. It's in all capitals but most idiots only type it with the first letter as a capital. |

Actually, the constellation that the EVE Gate (collapsed wormhole through which humans arrived in New Eden) arrived through is called "EVE", capitalized like that. Lorewise the name comes from some weird inscriptions or something that the Amarr found when recolonizing Genesis or something.
