I have no idea what a warlock is, but it sounds extremely un-hetero. If you are expecting EVE to be anything like WoW, I hope you are disappointed.

I dont mean to be rude but you cant compare a lock with anything in EVE. One is cartoon men and the other is a space game. Also try not to mention the W word if you want to be taken seriously here.

7 perception??? delete that account, make a new one and make sure your perception and willpower are as high as you can get them, intellegence and memory are slightly important good to have close 10 when you start, and charisma is useless
although you may think differently, trust me i know i have close to 20mil sp and my friend who started at same time as me had only 5 base perception and guess what his sp total is, 13mil. so yeah it is deffinately worth making a new account

yeah one is cartoon man and the other is cartoon ships. Both are nothing alike.
Anyway - warlock is a type of dark wizard - he drains the souls of his enemies and then summons demons with them or uses them as health buffs. He can drain mana or health (HP or energy).
He has "fear" i.e. you run around without being able to take any actions - something like a person who can't achieve lock, except worse.
Depending on skills he chooses he can be "master demonologist" then a part of the damage he takes is absorbed by his pet. Destruction - pure damage basically think kills in 4 seconds if everything goes just right. Or affliction- mostly damage over time while you kite people around mostly by fearing them.
Anyway - if you want to drain go amarr, if you want pure damage + pet(s) go gallente and I guess damage over time can be the caldari with their electronic warfare (medium slots) and missiles that take some time to fly across.
But honestly - you can do it all in eve don't limit yourself to 1 race or 1 ship. :)

Originally by: Asestorian Edited by: Asestorian on 18/09/2007 20:26:09 I don't think there is any specific ship class that you could aim for to fulfil your desires to be a warlock. In EVE you generally have a selection of ships, and use the most appropriate one for a situation, rather than a single, can-do-anything, ship. In fact, trying to fit your ship to do all things at once makes you a guaranteed kill if you go into combat to be honest.
I'm struggling to think of things that really fit well with what a warlock does. I suppose Gallente are the most obvious option when it comes to the pet, in that they have the biggest selection of drone specific ships, but beyond that, it's a little difficult.
There is no such thing as a DOT in this game, so that ones out completely. There aren't really debuffs either. The closest thing is ECM, specifically things like dampeners or tracking disruptors, which do actually decrease stats. You've also got NOS/Neuts for sucking/killing cap, and I think warlocks do something similar, so they kind of help. Gallente have ships that can be fit well to do many of these things.
Yeah.. That's about all I can think of really. The only problem here though is that the Gallente gunships are almost always close range. This is mostly because except in large gangs, long ranges are undesirable in combat, due to the nature of the warp scramblers and the like, as well as long range attacks being generally weaker.
Ships I'd go for if I wanted to be a "warlock" would probably be: Ishkur, Vexor, Ishtar, Myrmidon, Eos, Dominix. Drones, often fitted with some NOS/Neuts, and are also often fitted with things like dampeners I believe. That's the closest I can think of.
I am seriously impressed with the support given to this char what with the WoW reference. I expected the OP's post to go down in flames.
Just wanted to note that (slight spam here) and that is one of the things I enjoy most about Eve's community - the general respect given to all (well except in Alliance forums. )

Hmm... I think I should have been more specific and less referencing of the big evil W...
anyway, I'm mainly trying to decide whether to try and go Combat and/or Covert Ops (which would likely trigger a reroll) or to go Electronic Warfare, which this guy would be sorta good at.

Ok all jokes aside I will tell you what a player who likes locks should probably train for and be.
#1 You probably should reroll as Amarr, basically Amarr are the religiously wayward fanatical race that will give you the background story and look you would be after, dark hooded cloak wearing people who love to enslave people. Very Warlock like. #2 Warlocks are a ranged attack class with abilities that very rarely miss, so you will probably want to try training for missiles, luckily Amarr have had a little tweak that made many of their ships missile spammers. #3 Amarr have some respectable drone ships, as many have said, drones are about as close you will get to a pet. Pets you can choose and swap, same for drones. Also drones have various similar abilities to a demon pet. that been Ewar (debuffs) and DPS. Among other things. #4 Draining life, thats cap draining basically. Amarr are the drain specialists. They have bonuses to Evergy Vampires and Neutralisers. #5 Summon party member = Cyno field. You will probably want to train for Recon Ships.
So yes basically. Amarr Recon Ships is the go for you, The Curse (Very Apt Warlock Name) gives you everything you would usually want, where as the Pilgrim is good also but only really gives you the cyno ability over the Curse.

The style of the game is so differnt, btw there is no respawn and you die you lose your gear if your lucky, dont have a clone uptodate and you lose your skills (think levels in wow).

I guess you could link DoTs to drones given that you can just throw drones out then move away from your target. In that like I guess the Curse would be the most warlockish. It can 'drain tank' (nos), curse (tracking disrupt) and DoT (drones).
Furthermore, this is a dumb question, play Eve for Eve. Want WoW? Go back there then.

To the OP, its very hard to say what ship would be most like a warlock.
And I also would ignore about 90% of the players in these forums. They seem to be highly jealous of WOW and would like for everyone and their brother to know that EVE is the "end all" MMO. So any flames just ignore, the players in game are not actually this bad.
here are the 4 different factions and what they are best at.
Gallente: Drones, Blasters. They just get very close to people and do as much damage as possible.
Amarr: Lasers and very strong tanks. Also just recently missiles were added to a couple of ships.
Minmatar:Fast and agile. This is the closest resemblance to anything rogue-like.
Caldari: long range damage, the longest in the game by far with still ok DPS. And the only race to exclusiely shield tank, which creates problems for pvp, but they do very well at making money through PvE.
*every ship bigger than a destroyer has drones (exceot there might be an exception), just some are better with them and have more*
**have fun playing EVE**

I play both, and have a warlock main in WoW. Playstyles in EvE is easily changed, it's mostly a question of which setup you use. Different from WoW is that all modules (with a select few exceptions) are availible to all ships, where you are very locked to your cloth and knife in wow.
The warlocks roles can be descriped in the following roles: Debuffer Pet prof Nuker DoTs
All races have ships that can fill those roles, so it's more of a playstyle/roleplaying option on which race to go for.
Missiles are safe damage, and similar to dots. The drones are fragile and reminds of the Imp, but you can also use EW drones which'll make them into a succu/felhunter.
So, basically, any ship with a drone bay, some EW attached and a nos or two and you're home. :)

Congratulations on having survived an encounter with WORLD OF DIRECTED ACTION (WarCraft) (obviously nothing is 100% certain of course :)).
If you actually have a ship, as with most situations of this type, you are fine. If you need another ship it will simply be a factor of the company you keep and therefore completely irrelevant. You'll do OK ..
Obviously if I was to play you I would suggest you aim for a T2 BS or BS with good fit at the moment. Which faction you aim for is a different question I will leave open for now. They all have strengths and weaknesses (sorry couldnt help throwing that in there).

Originally by: Medigan Kostas my clone has almost 960k skill points (I have a Beta clone). I played a Warlock in WoW and figured a ship with similar functions in EVE would work well for my playstyle. I could be wrong but it's an assumption to go on anyway. As to starting as a Miner, I tried Rerolling but I just couldn't get attached to the new clone. So I came back to the old one, flawed though he may be for combat types of things. My stats are the following.
Go for Command Ships with drones...and train up some leadership skills like Armored Warfare. Electronics is also the right path to go for you.

After playing mages for two years I have this to say to the OP:
In WoW, the sole attractive feature of your class is that you can, upon seeing the enemy, push 8 buttons and then go get a can of pop. Because between your pet and the overwhelming effect of DoTs, you really unload all the potential damage you can do in about the first seconds of a fight.
Not the case in EvE... that is, unless you're a miner with a blood vendetta against rocks.
Of all the classes in WoW, Warlock is the furthest from EvE-reality. There is no equivalent role in this game unless you're a 2004 character playing the "I win" flavor of the month.
Because all the warlock is, is a pwnmobile. It's a class intended for people who want to beat other players without trying. Other then motherships in lowsec, there isn't a parallel to that in EVE.
Attacks in EVE aren't assured to hit due to tracking being calculated in radian/sec. An opponent who moves fast at a right angle to you is quite well defended against your heaviest and slowest attacks. So even just hitting the opponent is situational.
Once you hit, they have shields AND armor, one of which is almost assured to have decent resists against your chosen damage type; and one of them will be tanked if the ship is large enough to have to worry about getting hit a lot. Assuming of course they don't have extensive ECM.
WoW does not have a true paper-rock-scissors situation. EvE does. No matter what you do in EvE, there is always a ship designed specifically to counter what you're doing. -------------------------------------------------- FRIGATS Coalition FREGE-Red-IAC-Goon-AAA-Tau-Southerncross

To make a Non-wow analogy. I think hes looking for the Anarchy-Online Adventurer version for Eve. The CCP lovechild race/ship that is a solopwnmobile that defies the laws of time, space, balance, and pvp.
Not sure there really is such a thing in Eve as there has been in every other mmo I have played, in Eve it is generally referred to as the "Fotm" Flavor of the month though.
