20:05 one of our dictor pilots starts screaming that he has a rattlesnake in a bubble. With 3 corp members online we move to engage the faction battleship that shall hence forth be called "Indominable".
So the rattlesnake is within jump range of the gate, so I volunteer to jump in and 'force him through' to the 2 battleships on the other side of the gate. "uhh guys, I dont think I can force this ship to do anything" We bring in some alts and bump him off the gate. Cool now he cant jump through, but still we cant ***** his tank. At this point I start running out of the missiles that he is weakest to and his shields are recharging rapidly. Gawd damnit, i need more firepower! Our corp members are highly attuned to the 'force' and seem to be able to sense when there is righteous gankage to be had and start logging in and making their way to the killzone.
By this stage our ravens are almost completely out of ammo and had barely droped the rattlesnake below 50% shields. (we have fired about 5000 missiles at it by this stage) Meanwhile, one of out pilots was being held up by a 5 man bs gang in low sec and finally said screw it and did a leyroy jenkins and jumped in on the 5 battleships who promply warped away. Finally some more firepower! A quick logistics run and our ravens were ready to give it one last try. We knew we were fighting the clock here, Ka-Tet had to be mobalising a rescue force. So with 3 ravens, an abaddon and a small army of alts we gave it one last try.
At 20:34, a full 29 minutes after the initial bubble had been droped we *****ed the shield tank of this 'Indominable' foe. We knew from a previous engagement that this pilot had an officer implant set of some kind as he paid a 200mil ransom the previous day to save them. So, unwilling to pay the 500mil ransom we asked this time, we quickly sent him to the cloning facility.
All I can say is that rattlesnake had the toughest tank i have ever seen on a battleship. The killmail confirmed what we suspected, officer fitted passive shield tank. On a side note, I have killed carriers with softer tanks than this rattlesnake.
Kudos to Catholic Priest of the Ka Tet alliance for beeing a good sport about it. I would like to dedicate this righteous gank to BIG. Ka Tet, the pain has barely begun.

No idea,
All I know is that was the toughest tank I have seen on anything smaller than a capital. He was tanking about 2k 2dps in his weakest resist easily.

You know SATAN, crystals don't help when you are passive shield tanked. :)
Nice kill though ... very nice kill.
As for the setup, RS has the extra low slots and the equivalent of a LSE in shield HP over the CNR i think. That's what makes it a good passive shield tanker.
I'm not neutral in RAGOON vs BOB, I just dislike both sides. :) |

Mids: Pithum A Heat, Kin, Mag. 2x Invul fields Dread or better, 1xLSE II.
Low: 1x DCS II and atleast 3x SPR IIs...
that'd give me (with maxed SPR IIs) atleast 80% in lowest res and some 160k effective HP.... though still seems I'm missing something
now if I could only afford a rattlesnake and those mods on TQ =)

It's a nice guess but not even close.
although i think i'll refit to make the next setup better.
It was a 100% Passive tank...
except for the 1 invlun field...
although that one tanked about 2200 p/s passive.
if i can some how save up or afford it I'm pretty sure i can increase that about 1000 p/s... maybe...
probably call it the "BE EDITION"
But.. lets not ruin the thread with a whole lotta meaningless smack though..

I lost connection in UD a few hours earlier. And when i got the chance to log back in I auto warped to the gate and into trouble..

No support.
No TS.
Nobody who knew where I was and there were hostiles in the next system
As well as the one at the gate..
wasn't exactly the best situation to get support from 23 jumps away..
But another 5 minutes or so and have no doubt that i most likely would have been saved.. I won't give details but there was alot of support trying very hard to get to me..
I appreciate everything they did and I couldn't have asked more!
It was my own fault and I'll know better for next time!

Nice tanked rattlesnake. We had 3 ravens pounding it before we got more backup. Each raven doing over 600dps.
Respect to catholic priest for good sportmanship. And damn, thoose FOF almost took away my sheild

It means that CP was most prob in N-RAEL or whatever the entrence system into GW is called which is almost a full 30 jumps from our core system.
So it would take us about 30 mins to get any support to him.
5 mins to form up, and then 30 mins to get to him.
Total time to reinforce = 35mins
CP died a little before 30 mins was up therefore our reinforcments were just 5 jumps out when he died.

Also, an honest question, with the mentioniung of FoF's I imagine damps were used, so if those
had not been present had he been able to chase off the attackers; 1, 2, all attackers?
Just curious about the offensive capabilities, only seen an RS on film once, and it was impressive.

Offensively they are identical to a Raven, which means our tacklers were able to just speed tank his fof spam.
It was not luck that we managed to catch him at the gate, when our scout saw him in local we knew exactly what he was in and where he would be.
PS. Cathlic can you tell us what type of implant set you had? Evil wants to put together a setup just like it for his carebear adventures on an alt.

Offensively they are identical to a Raven, which means our tacklers were able to just speed tank his fof spam.
It was not luck that we managed to catch him at the gate, when our scout saw him in local we knew exactly what he was in and where he would be.
PS. Cathlic can you tell us what type of implant set you had? Evil wants to put together a setup just like it for his carebear adventures on an alt.

Yeah i clone jumped to an old alt in empire and figured i'd finish off the incomplete Snake set it had installed while i was in Jita.. 
And to be honest... That tank has very little to do with implants.
only 2 of them actually make and difference. both are gnome implants.. One for 5% more shield HP and amother for 5% decrease in shield recharge rate.. Cheap in comparison to the set of +5s installed.. :(
BUT! I'm glad to have lost it in battle. And yes i have 2 more! I'm sure BE will have a shot at another one shortly. although it'll be fit a bit different..
As for the missle question. i don't normally fit cruise missles. I much prefer Javelin and Rage Torps along with Target Painting Drones.. but CCP has yet to add and FoF torps in the game and i don't see them in the near future.. So for BE I took off my Tech II launchers and refitted assuming it would function a little bit better..
