Is Electronic Warfare that helpful in small gang pvp? I am looking into joining a pvp corp, and they recommended that I fly a Blackbird. I was reading the setups, and I noticed I should use 5 jammers. What exactly do jammers do? Do they not allow the jammed enemy to target someone, or is it something else? So my two main questions are: 1) Is Electronic Warfare that helpful 2) What is a good fitting for a blackbird, and can you tell me a little about jammers? Thanks in advance! -------

Edited by: wictro on 20/09/2007 01:54:21 ECM jams other ships locking ability. They lose lock, and can't lock during the _succesfull_ cycle of your ECM module
Remote sensor dampeners lower the locking distance and scan resolution(locking speed) of ship. If the new locking max distance is shorter than their distance of what ever they have locked, they lose lock. They also lock slower when they are under damps.
ECM is chance based, dampeners work allways.
ECM mods:
5 different kind: -one for each race ships -one multispectrum, jams all
racials have stronger jamming strenght, but can jam one race's ships only
multi uses more cap, and has weaker strength, thus failing more often
Blackbird(BB) has bonuses to ECM and makes the use of multis useful.
ECM got nerfed a while ago, but is still useful, especially in ECM bonused ships.
Todays favor is the remote sensor dampener.
too tired to write more ^_^
but im sure someone has allready made more proper answer :D
EDIT: horrible typos and broken/f'ed up sentences!

Edited by: wictro on 20/09/2007 01:52:26 ah i missed the 2 questions!
1) ecm can be matter of life and death. you can jam damage dealers, when taking their tacklers, EW ships and other out.
dampners keep you safe when in range. If you put 2-4 damps on Battleship, it takes ages for it to lock a frig. and it's locking range is 10-20km They can fit sensor boosters, that make their locking range greater.
2) check "ships and modules" sticky thread of ship fittings!

1) It is helpful in gangs. However it's propability based it sometimes works and sometimes not. As it's really really annoying when it works then you tend to move a way up in targeting list if you use it. Currently however dampeners are a bit more effective in most situations than ECM. ECM has greater range however (unless someone uses dampeners on you). 2) There have been some threads about blackbird fittings, so 'search' function will give you a bit better coverage. I'm myself preferring hp buffer setups, but it's dependant on how your gang is set up. Hp buffer setups are more useful if you have ships with remote repairing ability in gang.

The Blackbird is an utterly evil ship to be part of the gang you're fighting _if_ the pilot has good ECM skills, a decent fitting (in terms of the correct racial jammers and the low slot ECM booster) and knows how to fly it.
However since the ECM nerf ECM is not something you can be 'casual' in you either need to get the skill trained up and spend the money on the fit or you're better off fitting damps.
