Now that we're not forced to either load CQ or The Door, but instead Hangar mode or Fixed Hangar mode, can we make it to where computers with Shader Model 2.0 load EVE but be forced to use either of the Hangar modes?
Pretty please? I have a "gaming" PC at home, but I'd also like to play/chat at school. I have no life

With absolute certainity no. Besides almost half of the ships have already been upgraded to the new model and it makes absolutely no sense to waste artists and developers on catering ancient hardware. |

meh, I'd rather not. Perhaps instead of reverting EVE back to 2.0 compatibility, how about that thin client that CCP was talking about? :P /me snugglehump you long time GÖÑ

There's a big difference between SM 2.0 and "brand spanking new" :) For your laptop to not support SM 3.0 it must either be not designed for stuff like that in which case you got it from work OR it's so old it runs on coal.

Would it be possible to go with a desktop? If cost is an issue it only takes a very modest amount to run EVE (far less than a comparable laptop). ICRS - Intergalactic Certified Rocket Surgeon |

Uh how about paying attention in class and learning something so you can make a better life and afford a new laptop and house and car and all those non-eve things that actually matter. The internet spaceships will be there when you get home from school. |

How cute, you believe class actually matters and are lecturing someone to not play games in class. If he can afford to play Eve and still pass his class, it's all good. If not, it's all good too, and his fault for being irresponsible.
But on topic, reverting to SM2 is not going to happen. Shader Model 3 is here to stay, particularly now that half the ships in the game use it.
Besides, CCP doesn't actually technically support Intel integrated cards. From what I understand, supporting those is like supporting IE when developing a website. Damned if you do (it's a royal PITA to support it), and damned if you don't (massive whining about lack of support for something so popular).
The best solution you can likely come up with is running a remote desktop setup via a VPN or something so your laptop can "see" what's on your home computer's screen, and interact with it. This would be rather laggy, so you probably couldn't do any PvP or intensive PvE on it, but it should be enough for hauling jobs, managing market orders, etc. |

Interesting idea. And all of my courses are computer related, so why not be on eve? :)) Wait, you mean to tell me that IE is popular? Not in my universe! /me snugglehump you long time GÖÑ

I think I would rather play EVE.
American schools have a problem of not giving more challenging work to those students who could handle it. They just give everyone the same thing based on the lowest student's abilities.

They just give everyone the same thing based on the lowest student's abilities. They also have a tendency to overempathize "general education" material that won't help you "make a better life and afford a new laptop and house and [etc]". I only have a netbook, so I usually end up blogging or coding during boring classes, but I don't blame OP for wanting to fly spaceships. |

sry skipped a few posts but in a rush.
remote desktop pc at home with laptop. that does the mucle work and its just streaming to laptop at school.
firewall? tunnel through it to make it look like a different packet like internet explorer. or make sure the net admin is kool with it otherwise u lose all privlages and or violate usage rights which could lead up to cops being called. so yeah check with him ;) , yes that is extreme case but fair heads up. most likely getting banned permo for usage violations. you use a wireless (provider) card thats a diff story. just remote desktop to pc at home.

No.
It's a threshold passed.
Making sure that all new code/graphics actually work even on non-SM3 graphics would induce a significant higher load on both devs and gm's and in the end not really being worth it.
Believe me, I understand your pain, I had to work quite hard to get my old AGP rigs to finally load EvE again.
And I was locked out from EvE for several weeks (well, actually, I mainly lost all the mayhem and riots).
But multi shader model code would create a nightmare for both coders and artists, and no matter how much I like you (in a non gay way, at least yet) I prefer they'll do other stuff than another multi-tier client.
So no, it's tragic for laptop people, but still no.
