Edited by: GM Dionysus on 20/09/2007 21:09:32 G'day to all
I'm Dionysus, and I'll be yout PvP contest organiser for this year's fanfest.
Every year it seems that not only is Eve is getting bigger, but the Fanfest os getting bigger and better! It it only natural that I should at least make an attempt to do the same with our little contest.
In the tradition of Fanfest and Eve, we have to figure out, who really are the best PvP'ers? There are many ways we work this out in game, and many definitions of what "real PvP" is. But whatever you think it is, the most satisfying PvP is when we get up close and personal to pew pew with a few of our friends by our side.
To that end, This year's contest is going to be a small team event. 4v4 in an arena.
To get rid of any lingering doubts about isk or skillpoints unduly influencing the event, you will be able to participate with a pimped out character who knows everything, and have access to any T1 or T2 module for free.
Now for my bias <grin> I love small ship combat, especially cruisers for their variability. After the great showing from you players in the last alliance tournament, and the amazing performance of our old workhorses the T1 cruisers, well, thats what we are going to try.
So, this year at fanfest, we're organising a nice little setup for you players to duke it out. You will be hopefully organising yourself into teams of 4 and flying T1 cruisers using any t1 or t2 modules.
There will be a signup page coming up sometime next week where you can say you will be participating. If possible try to organise into teams of 4. (name you team whatever you like... within normal naming rules please) If you dont have a team I'll be putting you into a team before the fanfest, so dont worry too much about that.
I'll also be putting up the rules etc, but it will be pretty straight forward - pretty much the same as the alliance tournament, but no points, only win or die (but no warping...)
So - knock yourselves out here talking about modules, working out teams, or thinking of ways to improve the competition/rules.

Nearly any non-named t1 or t2 module. If there is a blueprint for it, you should be able to use it.
No Damps allowed.
You will start at medium range.
discuss.

The idea of allowing warping around between beacons sounds excellent, but it makes it that much harder to keep track of what is going on. We have a limited number of computers, and more importantly personel, so warping will, yet again, not be allowed.
The more complete rule set will be coming very soon (hopefully by monday 1.oct) Its still under some discussion here as well.

The sign-up page (and the rules) have been sent to the webcell guys. I'm expecting it very soon now...
One change that I am playing with is the idea that since this is not really "televised", we're going to do away with the pause at the beginning of the battle, and just "warp in start shooting".
Only challenge would be to ensure the range is within limits...

Edited by: GM Dionysus on 29/09/2007 20:24:54 OK. Some clarifications
This is NOT being held on TQ. We will be using a completely separate server that will only be accessible on-site (not TQ, not Sisi). So everyone who signs up will be given an account/character on that server with maxed out skills. This also means that if you are not at the fanfest, you cannot participate.
This results in having no implants for the tournament. Also podding makes no difference to your TQ character.
(Probably won't supply implants for the tournament, so don't count on them for setups)
All ships and modules will be supplied (including faction ships). You will all be in the same corp, and will have access to ships and modules from the corp hangar ingame. The organisers on site should be able to spawn anything you cant find in the hangar (as long as allowed by the rules)
This tournament is supposed to be a contest of players - knowledge of how to setup ships and get the most out of modules is part of this. Everyone is on the same playing field in this contest to eliminate as many factors as possible. You will all be on identically setup machines on the same connection as well.
Basically this is as "fair/equal" a contest as we can come up with.

Fanfest tickets
Thats where you can buy the tickets. You will still need to organise accomodation and getting here though.

Ladies and gents, we're over maximum for the number of teams already...
We still have more spaces for people to sign up (128 pilots can be safely accomodated) and may have the ability to enter a few extra as well. But from now on, we are going to have to be a bit more strict. If you have a full team of 4 pilots signed up before we get full, then your team is given highest preference.
Then we start assigning pilots. The 3 person teams will get an extra pilot from the pool, then the 2 person teams etc. If there is no one left in the pool, then I will be taking pilots away from the 1 man teams.
Please remember. The number 1 priority is when the pilot signs up - first in best dressed.
If one of your pilots signs up late to the fanfest, then he runs the risk of being replaced by another person who signed up earlier.

Make a team with 2 players.
I will try to keep players together who have signed up together, but I cannot garuntee it.
as for the other issue: limited edition ships (which dont have BPOs) will not be available for use. ie: Guardian Vexor, Magnates, etc. Faction ships which are available from LP offers are available for use though.
And again for clarification: no implants.

Well ladies and gentlemen, we've got over capacity players now.
the 1st 128 players will be getting in for sure, anyone signing up after these will be placed on a "backup" list, and if people dont appear on time for the session, any backups at the tournament will get put into a team.
I'll start working on the final schedule now and try to get that posted as soon as possible. I hope by monday.

Hi again all.
I really hope that everyone enjoyed participating/watching the PvP Tourney.
Some thanks are in order I reckon.
To the wonderful GMs who volunteered to help out: Daishi Faolchu Icini Karidor Ocelot Sunshine Zhanius
To our awesome presenter mr Mindstar.
And let us not forget the spectacular efforts of all our operations people - especially to Valar who magically setup our mini-server onsite, and to Queeg500 our nutty IT director who did his magic obtaining equipment for you all to play on.
I'll be in touch with the winners to organise their other prizes.
Thanks all, and lets make it even bigger next time!

And thank you, I had a lot of fun doing this... for example the incident with the power strip at the finals.... turns out that setting up and managing this mini-server is a lot more difficult than managing TQ
