Electus Matari at no point invited help from Veto or The Guristas Associates - they are in the area because you naievely announced where you were going to be and when. As for Naqam, you can decry them for their loyalties if you wish, but I judge them by their souls and their actions. I see people willingly approach them for recruitment, and I see those same souls, those same personalities, come out again, augmented by machines but not utterly devoured by them. I see them fighting the Angel Cartel which bedevils our space with acts of thievery and abduction, snatching slaves with the same frequency as the Amarr, with the same brutal and degrading consequence. I see Naqam fighting to keep low sec space open, so any who wish to can oppose the Cartel alongside them. Should the Nation choose the Naqam model of synthesis, not antithesis, between man and machine as its future path... well, the prospect holds a great hope for all sentience. As for the Ushra'Khan, you can blame whoever employed KIA alliance against our allies in Namtz'aar K'in for their involvement. Even the prospect of putting down the Amarr's favourite pets pales beside the need to defend the Free Trade Zone we all worked so hard to create in Molden Heath. Fact: The Reserve has been operating in the same region of Caldari space for the last four months. If Veto and the Black Rabbits were merely following the Reserve in an attempt to strike at us, why did not they declare war on us months ago? Fact: Electus Matari is actively cooperating with the Black Rabbits, Veto, and Naqam -- exchanging intelligence and using pirate blockades of low security system gates in order to shelter their operations from KIA and CAIN operations, in addition to outright combined combat operations. Fact: Electus Matari is doing nothing to stop these pirate groups from preying on neutral traffic in the area. The only reason these pirates are trying to claim their operations are completely unrelated to presence of the Reserve in Minmatar space is to try to preserve some sort of respectability for Electus Matari, if only because they want to be able to use them as a front for money laundering or other operations where they need a "legitimate" face. Even if Electus Matari didn't beg for the help of these pirates, they have welcomed them with open arms, allowing them to pillage legitimate merchant traffic with impunity simply to save their own hides. And even if it were true that Veto and the Black Rabbits were just trying to take advantage of the distraction Electus Matari provides to attack the Reserve, is that any more honorable on the part of Electus Matari? Is this what the Minmatar people stand for? Will the Republic live as patsies and victims for the rest of its short existence then? Is that better than living as a slave? Ushra'Khan already sold their souls months ago, when they begged for the aid of the same pirates that held their outpost siege only a short time before, just to preserve their tenuous grip on a region they had allowed to become infested with pirates and thieves through lack of vigilance. Now Electus Matari is doing the same, and trying to act innocent when they are called on their betrayal, and telling us we should believe the very people who are preying on those they have sworn to protect. How can they be trusted? As far as Verone's indignant rants about the crimes committed by the Reserve, a man loses the ability to cry foul when he revels in the blood spilled each time his guns rip apart the hull of a merchant freighter, when he laughs at the misfortune of others, when he is so dissociated from his own acts that he can sleep soundly despite the wails of the thousands -- perhaps millions of people who have died at his hands. This is the difference between what he does and what a legitimate paramilitary force does on a daily basis. The actions of those of in the Reserve -- and those in the Acheron Federation, or the Aegis Militia, or, I hope, Namtz'aar k'in, are done to preserve the lives of the men and women we protect, and we regret every ounce of blood we must spill to do it. We do not live for war, we live to prevent war and to keep the peace, and we know the heavy price paid by everyone who does what we do. Verone has no regrets about anything he has done. Those of us on the right side of the law know there is a price for everything, whether it was an act for the better or for the worse in the long run, and that price will be paid someday, somehow. I have no compunction at all about taking 100% profit or more from my enemies - I will whittle down their resources by any means available to me.
