qft
Eve university is generally trusted by 90% of Eve's players. It's a corp for beginners, with people here actually to teach the game, how to play, etc, etc. 2isk

Originally by: Cisco Certified Interesting story but residential connectivity to the Internet was rarely if at all available back in '94.
Since you are Cisco Cetified you then know everything. And then are also aware of ISDN, and that I worked for a company in KCMO that broke the barrier for telecommuters. That in 94 I had 100 people from the Kansas City Metro area working form home on a range of cisco isdn routers as well as the shiva router (never understood why the network guys liked the gui interface so much more, I hated it). You also are aware that I spent countless hours on teh phone with Scotland and Southwestern Bell (the RBOC of that region) trying to get SWB to understand what exactly was meant when we said "Voice over IP" (Actually there are two spids ie 2 phone numbers splitting the isdn "channel").
BTW, at that time in 94 they were not called mmorps, they were called rpg's/muds, they were text based just like, and included the ones we played on local bbs's
So your comment about residential connectivity is soo right. I mean I didnt even use dial up at that time, I was on isdn from home.
Oh and at 14 I saved up $250.00 to buy a 300 baud modem for my C64.. go go local bbs's!!
LOL - I like this guy. He loves the game and pwns trolling alts on here.
Oh and welcome to the game. The drama gets deeper, but the fun never ends.

Welcome to EVE and hope you have a more enjoyable experince in the future. ^^
However, appealing to the broad marketplace is a bad idea, I love this game for it's depth and complexity and I come from many games... That are either free to play or pay to play and are simplified to the point, which leaves it open to a lower grade of player base. *cringe*

I quit three years of WoW !
Download Eve Online / Install
Start playing and LOVE it ! Join corp recruitment channel because the all knowing tutorial tells me too.
Join a n00by Corporation, one geared to helping young players out !! (WOW!!! what a way I think to cut my teeth, jump right in there and get my hands dirty)
Sunday I get to go on a low sec mining op (/twirls finger) Run some missions with fellow corp members.
Monday Run a few more missions!!
Wait whats this corp mail?? We should sell all of our ore to "X" corporation?? , but we loose money doing that...Ahh the other corp will help us get higher end things, ok I'll play along.
Tuesday Hey mr Corp leader, I am having some trust issues here (with you). You tell us your main is in "X" corp, and you started this one to have fun, and help newbies.
Wednesday Mr. Corp leader quits corp, hands CEO over to new member (who shares with me /played mmorpg's since 94ish, text based muds since the late 80's, yes I am old) 30ish members at this point, still running low level missions /gang
Thursday
Leader of "X" corporation wants to chat with us, old leader tells us in vent that we should send a frigate full of ore to "x" corporation (for protection against all the bad people)
Friday
Chatting with "X" corp leader and sidekick, We are told that our corporation was created to recruit for "X" corp, as well as send cash up the chain. That we need to pay extortion money, because if we don't they have a pvp guild of alts that will hunt everyone down (They been round for 2 years). They will declare war on the handfull of people who, most started within two weeks.
We decided to quit the corp, and name one of their people as the head.
One Week Later I have to wait 24 hours in which to leave this corp (its coming up in four) Along with the others in the corp. This has been a learning experience to say the least!!
Only issue is, now I have to start a new character. (that way I don't killed or harrassed anymore by "X")
I also came out of this with a very large dislike for Czec/Romain/Russians (sorry to the good ones, but ya know the saying about one bad apple, this case it was a full corp of them)
Anyway, I love the game, hate the fact that people who just start cant get slapped so hard.
Balt
Hey mate, harsh first experiance into the game, it's not all the same.
If you want any help with the game in general or guidance drop me a mail or convo and i'll see what i can do.

A frigate full of ore? Something I can't put my finger on, tells me that this "leader" is a complete noob himself. -------------------------------------------- The most common phrase on the Eve-O forum of late is: "Oh the irony". It is usually being used to describe hypocrisy which is in itself, ironic.

or just inteligent enough to know that they can't bring much more (fe can't fly bigger ships as Industrials arn't allowed for trail-acc). first rule: just take a part so your victim can survive else you lose your ISK-cow ;)

Balthazar, sorry to hear about your bad experiences in the first week of your new eve-life ... however, it is quite common throughout the game for a general lack of trust.
One thing I would recommend if you start a new character, or to any new character in general is this:
Don't be in a rush to join a player corporation. While they can have many benefits, there is also an amount of risk involved. When you start the game you're automatically placed into a newbie corporation, like the gallente navy academy, university of caille etc. From my experience, these starter corporations include people who choose to stay there for the purpose of helping out those who start the game with advice etc. Quite often there will be group mining operations going on, or even group mission running. So my recommendation is this ... stay in the starter corp for a while, find your feet there for a couple of weeks, then make a decision (with your better grounding in the game) as to which player corporation you'll join.

Lots of great posts in this thread. I like the 'eve-light' idea. I dont mean change anything for the main players,, but have an 'easy' version you can toggle on and off as need be.
I said this before,, this seems like a good place to say it again..
Feedback Ratings - Way for the playerbase to rate other players/corporation.
Before hiring a person or joining a corp, you can look at the feedback rating of the entity to see just how well they have behaved in their Eve history. You could see if you are about to join a '5 star' corp or a '1-star' operation. Same thing with players. Kinda, sorta, like all the online auction places are doing... just... different and tailored to Eve.
Anotyher idea... Maybe CCP should make it so that new players can only join corps where the CEO been in the corp at least a year (or two or three) and plays x hours a week?

That would just be some sort of grind. And just encourage people to sit logged in so they're "playing" for X hours.
